EverQuest II Update 63: Skyshrine Adds New Zone, Level Cap

Just because your favorite MMO doesn’t have millions of players doesn’t mean it’s going to go away.

Take EverQuest II. Sony Online Entertainment just announced a new update for the title, which will go live on April 17. Game Update 63: Skyshrine will introduce a new outdoor zone, a level-cap increase, several new instances, and more.

EQ2 launched just a couple weeks before World of Warcraft in 2004, and so never achieved the heights that were likely predicted for it. Yet it’s still going, seven-plus years and 62 (soon to be 63) updates later, which bodes well for pretty much any mid- to upper-level MMO. Other than Star Wars Galaxies, which was a special case, MMOs of any moderate status these days never seem to “die.” They might get smaller or have fewer updates/expansions, but it seems like you’re pretty safe playing just about any game out there and knowing it’ll be around for a good long while. Keep that in mind the next time your friends tell you your favorite game is going to die.

MMOs dont die until they get shut down. RIP SWG!

Glad to see others are noticing that many F2P game update a lot more than P2P games. Its a generally untrue stereotype that F2P games cant do regular updates and support w/o a sub.

Theres just a few bad apples, like P2W games, ruining the image of otherwise quality games. Its sad really.

       Agreed.

EQ was the game that originally got me into MMOs.

Mike B and this idiot who is reviewing does not know anything about EQ2.  Please don’t review games that you don’t know anything and are unwilling to spend the time learning about.  The update is not free you need dov/aod to unlock the features of the updates.   Stick to the games you play and don’t embarass yourself reviewing things you know nothing about.

Yeah… It’s quite obvious neither of them follow the game at all. Almost everything they stated was incorrect. lol

This update is free to anyone that has purchased Destiny of Velious (last main expansion, Age of Discovery is the latest, but is not a traditional expansion). All content is free besides the last two expansions.

Your variable expenses fluctuate with subscriber numbers. But fixed costs, such as overhead, fixed assets, etc, stay the same..
