It seems that Funcom is making some changes to The Secret World with more casual or time restricted players in mind.  In a recent blog post on The Secret World site, the team explained how they will be modifying Lairs to make them more appealing to the less-hardcore among us.

For those who may not know, a Lair in TSW is an area in each of the three zones that contains pockets of powerful mobs.  They are currently intended for 3 player groups in QL10 gear — that’s high level.  Players participating in Lairs are able to acquire Signets for their gear and ritual fragments needed to summon some big baddies to fight.  There are three of those in each Lair.

According to the blog post, the team will be making a series of changes to Lairs — not limited to but including:

  • Upping the amount of players from 3 to 5
  • Reducing the distance from a Lair to the nearest Anima Well.
  • New item missions
  • Loot progression
  • And more

However, for those who are worried this new direction with Lairs might affect Nightmare dungeons, Funcom has stated that they’re not making changes to them.  They will still be murder — for the masochists among us.

Not sure if you made it clear, but the changes to lairs will provide an alternate way to get the best gear in the game (quality level 10 purple gear). Currently, the only way to get this gear is by running nightmare level dungeons, and that will continue to be the fastest way to get the gear, but soon you will also be able to get it from lairs.
