Martin Bruusgaard Tells The Secre World Fans That He's Leaving Funcom
6 Comments

The Secret World’s fan base received some less-than happy news yesterday as the game’s lead designer Martin Bruusgaard announced that he is no longer with Funcom.  Well… It was less than a formal announcement than a reply to a follower on Twitter.  But the impact is definitely the same.

While we all logically know that any MMO is created by a large group of people, some people definitely become the faces of the game and many TSW fans thought of Martin as one part of a three-man dream team consisting of himself, Creative Director Ragnar Tornquist, and Lead Content Designer Joel Bylos.

It’s never cool to break up a dream team.  And, Martin being let go from the company shows just how far up the ladder the cuts Funcom announced a bit back are going.

There is good news, however.  Bruusgaard has already found work elsewhere with a company based in Oslo.  I’m glad that he managed to find gainful employment so quickly and hope the others who are laid off have just as much luck.

    faster than SWTOR.

SWTOR had that really big initial sales number. SWTOR game design just didn’t keep the subscribers.

TSW didn’t hit the sales number or it seems the subscriber numbers.

At least they didn’t get tattoos that they’d later regret.

Wonder when the game is going free to play.  Not normal interested in those kinda of games but would buy and try it out if the sub fee goes away.

It’s somewhat of a counter factual question, but I wonder if games like TSW and SWTOR had been hugely successful would their des/staff be leaving at all?

    I think not…Regardless of any company re-sizing.

I was surprised how quickly Funcom announced his leaving, but then noticed he had already found a new job.  Typically with most socialist countries it takes 6 months to a year to lay someone off. Giving them a chance to find a new job.
