Funcom Releases 5th Content Update For The Secret World

Is the end of the world really in two days?  I am totally not prepared for this.

But, it seems Funcom is.  In fact, while they were teasing us about The Secret World‘s 5th issue yesterday, they had plans to put it out today all along.   The only problem is, two days doesn’t seem like enough time to get in all the content they’re dropping with it.

In the teaser video, shown above, Game Director Joel Bylos describes what we will experience during the end of the world — both in game and out.  If Joel is on the mark about all of this, the future does look to be pretty grim.

Players of The Secret World have a lot to look forward to during their short time left on this planet as Issue #5 brings with it the three harbingers for brave agents to fight off.  The update will also bring with it a third auxiliary weapon (the quantum bracers), will allow players to assign inventory items to hot keys and a hot new RP destination in London.  And, of course there’s new missions.

As previously stated, The Secret World‘s 5th Issue is available for free to anyone who buys the game through December, including those of us who already own the game.

Buy to play, £25 on Steam and then no subscription.

Interesting. I may check it out then next time I have some disposable income. Last time I played was back in one of the prerelease betas and thought that while interesting and entertaining, the game wasn’t really “subscription material “(I actually typed out a rather long review for the official forums that was….less than well received, though I considered it fair and unbiased, and even said that I expected the game to be a success). I advocated TSW being buy-to-play back then, but I wonder about the quality of the game now that it has made the transition simply because it wasn’t what the developers/publisher wanted from the game, and we’ve all seen what I call “screw you for making us go free-to-play” conversions in the past (See: Star War Knights of the Old Republic).

I’m going to go ahead and assume this is going to be one of those subscription optional “free-mium” models, so with that in mind do you have any idea what kind of restrictions and borderline pay-to-win elements non-subscription players will have to suffer through?

Looks good, is there a trial up? Dont wanna buy a game that seems to of gone bad (subscription to buy to play)
