In a new interview with GameTrailers, ArenaNet‘s Mike Zadorojny talks about the Fields of Ruin zone in Guild Wars 2.

The Fields of Ruin is a level 30-40 zone in southern Ascalon, where the Humans and Charr have been fighting for over two centuries. It features the bastion city of Ebonhawke, which players can learn about through various points in the city and conversations with NPCs.

The players’ task is to try and broker a lasting piece between the two warring factions. Of course, not everyone is willing to, ahem, “give peace a chance,” as both races have their own splinter factions — the Separatists for the Humans and the Renegades for the Charr — who will look to sabotage any attempts at a cease-fire.

Humans and Charr aren’t the only foes, however. Ogres are trying to establish a foothold in the blasted land, and there are bands of harpies and the dragonbrand to deal with as well. Zadorojny also makes reference to a “hidden monument” — and if that’s not a shout-out to lore-loving Guild Wars players, we don’t know what is.

ArenaNet Dishes On New Zone In Guild Wars 2

    Nice :)

  • Jant0n

Can’t wait to check it out! I hope they let you choose which to side with in your personal story and have it branch out from that.

IIRC in the BWE there was only one choice, kill both sides.

      • Jant0n

Fields of Ruin was not available in the beta.

No but I remember at least one of those factions being around in Plains of Ashford.

  • Aelskafotboll

Can we just release the game already… I´m seriously sitting infront of the computer 10h/day looking up things about GW2.

My expectations are huge! If the game turns out to suck, I don´t know what to do.

If you’ve played the beta’s then you will know that GW2 will indeed not suck.

So far, only seen the first couple of zones.  Hope the rest of the zones are okay. Never know until you try them.  The video did not show much that was new.

        • Old Ben

          > So far, only seen the first couple of zones.

Yeah, you’re right. We’ve only seen Lion’s Arch, Divinity’s Reach, Queensdale, the Black Citadel, the Plains of Ashford, the Mists, the Borderlands, the Eternal Battlegrounds, the Wayfarer Foothills, the Snowden Drifts, Rata Sum, The Grove, Metrica Province, the Kessex Hills, the Gendarran Fields, the Battle of Kyhlo, the Forest of Niflhel, the Legacy of the Foefire, the Brisban Wildlands and Hoelbrak.

I really hope the remaining zones are interesting because, frankly, this “first couple of zones” that we’ve seen is unlikely to hold my interest for more than a few minutes.

I for one am so interested in whether it keeps you interested or not. I’m literally on the edge of my seat caring about what you do.

Thats the problem with written sarcasm … its not as easy to detect as people claim it to be. People simply have different backgrounds and maybe a different skill at english so its not really easy.

          • Jado Cast

            Yeah like Sheldon Cooper.  lol

          • Old Ben

Yes, because giving a list of 20 areas and then pointing out the expression “couple of zones” by putting it between quotes is not obvious at all… :-P

    • RolyVento

Me too! I am so bored, don’t know what to play and when I do play something I quickly log off and watch some Guild Wars 2 related videos. I really hate feeling like this.

  • Kicknpups

Have to say I did play multiple story lines Asura/Human/Norn and multiple diffrent choices I.E circus,my dead sister, save my friend or let my friend die etc. and Can’t wait to see what the end choices look to be! Still curios about the whole legendary weapons…So much still about this game that is hidden from the players and it just makes it that much better!

    • RolyVento

I loved the ” I regret I never joined the Circus” option, the story and the plot was fascinating! The choice of my sister was dead was depressing and the choice of who are my parents was very mysterious and cool. I can’t wait till see what else is out there.

The parent option is nice for people who played Prophecies.

  • Jado Cast

Anyone know how to get that skill point on top off a rock in the charr starting area? It’s the only starting zone I have not completed and it’s driving me crazy. (-:

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/ITHF7XKYGVXFAPCDMDJTKHLBBU Lian Wan

I am pretty sure I know which one you are talking about. It is NOT on top of a rock. It is under the rock. If you have made a Charr it’s the location where you fight the first boss.
There should be some stairs going down on the opposite side of the rock.

      • Jado Cast

Ah, thank you.  I thought maybe Anet was trying to torture me.  :)
