We will be actively working on the game during the event, so you might experience connectivity problems or discover features that are not working as designed. Any issues you experience are a result of the rigorous conditions of the stress test, and are in no way representative of the state of the game at launch. By participating in this stress test, you’re helping us make Guild Wars 2 a better game. Thanks for your cooperation—we’ll see you in-game! ~RB2

Colin looks anything BUT stressed in that pic. Ironic much?

Also, THIS is how quickly breaking news should be handled. Much better than Felicia Day’s unboxing vid. Great job guys!

    • Jay

I’m okay with them delaying anything Felicia Day is involved in…

      • http://twitter.com/prism2525 prism2525

Aww dude that was mean. Come on she’s really cute. (off topic)

        • Jay

Lol wasn’t trying to be mean… Just keepin’ it real. :3

      • http://twitter.com/mjedwards15 Mathew Edwards

Felicia Day is involved in GW2, she’s the voice of Zojja. Do you want that delayed?

        • Jay

You mean if they just put text instead of her voice? Yes. I would be completely okay with that. :)

        • http://www.facebook.com/daniel.beverly Daniel Beverly

I like her, I miss Eureka!

Colin has a permanent “We are so awesome” smile, and rightfully so.

  • Razor4884

Interesting. Looks like A-net is really starting to get more active with public testing.

Would actually be nice if we had an isea what the stress test was about. Then maybe the “Beta” testers would actually “Test” instead of just play the game.

    • http://twitter.com/prism2525 prism2525

I don’t think they need that. It’s highly probable that anything they want to stress test is gonna be used by somebody. I take it they don’t need THAT much of a stress on it. Also it could be a balancing thing more than a stress test, but what do I know?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_INBXCM4CZFVSPC2ZYINQJAK77Y Methadose

Last stress test, it seemed like they were working on balancing of the WvWvW servers structure. They are probably also testing optimizations on the backend.

      • Old Ben

There were some problems with the cash shop in the previous test. I’m guessing they have some new code there they want to test. Also, server guesting and character slot unlocking haven’t been tested in any of the previous events.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there’s still one more “stress test” after this one.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/ITHF7XKYGVXFAPCDMDJTKHLBBU Lian Wan

That could end up skewing the test results.

  • Jant0n

Yes! I’ve been itching to play some more GW2; hopefully this will tide me over till launch (or maybe they’ll have another stress test ;D).

  • http://twitter.com/AnesthesiaOlogy Josh E

Can they just schedule ONE stress test during US peak hours and not make every one of them during EU?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_INBXCM4CZFVSPC2ZYINQJAK77Y Methadose

Well considering they are at WORK, WORKING on the game, no. Unless you want them to work all night? Oh wait thats right you’re not there boss. There held when there held, deal with it.

The grammatical ruling for prose is 10 and above may be written in numerals while one to nine are spelled out.  I don’t know about the corner cases like zero or negative numbers.

finally, a stress test that syncs up with my day off.  woot

  • Tobias L Hansen

well some of us in eu work at evenings :(

  • Jay

Had a feeling they would run another… Good time for my Asuran engineer to get some testing with his flamethrower.

    • Old Ben

      > Had a feeling they would run another

Did you? Is that why you posted on the other thread that “Arena Net have said the game is ready for launch”…? ;-)

It’s amazing the effect that two client updates and one stress test announcement can have on feelings, eh? :-P

      • Jay

Nice speculation ^^ but having a stress test and the game being ready are two separate things. I had a feeling they would have another simply because there is no down side to it. No more BWEs before launch, so why not let people test out some of the balancing before launch? Just a smart move on their part… Since you’re so privy to the industry, you should know this is free testing for ANet. Since their QA team is limited, why not let a more substantial group of people help improve the game at no cost?

Like I said, the game is ready for launch, and will continue to improve throughout it’s lifetime… TBH I could see them even doing another “stress test” after this next one.

        • Old Ben

          > why not let a more substantial group of
          > people help improve the game at no cost?

Indeed… if the game is ready for launch, and therefore there’s no downside in letting people play it for longer periods, why don’t they have a BWE every week? In fact, whey don’t they just give 24/7 access to the game? Or why don’t they launch it?

Unless, of course, they know the game isn’t quite ready yet, and the extra feedback they’d get by leaving the server on indefinitely would be more than negated by exposing people to bugs or letting them get used to things that Arena Net might still be planning to change.

          > Like I said, the game is ready for launch

If you keep saying it for two more weeks, you’ll eventually be right.

          > TBH I could see them even doing
          > another “stress test” after this next one.

Amazing prediction, remind me to mention that in my posts.

          • Jay

Few reasons… Burn out (since everything is temporary), working conditions (easier to make adjustments without server load, office hours, wide scale balancing… You pick. Game could launch as is, no big deal, runs just fine. They still have to launch their marketing campaign, as well as many other back-end operations. You make it seem like on the 25th the game will be magically “ready” and they just hit a switch. There are always things to be worked on… always.

August 25th is merely a deadline before the servers go live. As far as the “prediction” goes… I read your post after I made mine. You know I’m not as harsh as some people here, but you really should consider some form of humility; even if this is the internet. You can make your argument without the ever-present condescending tone.

It’s nice to be great, but it’s even greater to be nice.

          • Old Ben

            > You make it seem like on the 25th the game will
            > be magically “ready” and they just hit a switch.

There’s nothing “magical” about it. There are a lot of people working on the game with the knowledge that:

            a) It has to be ready on the 25th, and
            b) It doesn’t have to be ready two weeks before that.

That means some things _will_ get pushed to the last days. They _could_ have been done sooner (and the game could have launched with less features, less content, etc.), but once a deadline has been set, work is adjusted to make the most of the available time.

It’s how software development (and project management in general) works: Work always expands to fill all the time available until the deadline.

And it’s not condescension, it’s sarcasm. You’ve posted several times “Arena Net said the game is ready to be launched”. I asked you to post a link to the place where they had said that (which, unsurprisingly, you failed to do), and a couple of hours later they released another patch and announced another test. The universe has a sense of humor, sometimes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/KyleDAJuza Kyle Juza

    I’ll be at work :-( *cough cough* wait…I think I’m getting sick…

    • Jay

Not too sick to play GW2 I hope ;)

  • H S

Just unpacked my new I-7 3770K system and then read this. Talk about perfect timing!

  • http://www.facebook.com/daniel.beverly Daniel Beverly

I just got my Turtle Beach headset, So I get to try them out.

  • http://www.kaiketsu.enjin.com/ Corey “Crimzen”

Nice, I may just be optimistic but I suspect if they are getting all the data they need from these tests then it’s probably safe to assume that compared to most MMO’s that launch this will be relatively smooth. Heres hoping anyway, I have faith they can pull it off though.

    • http://glacius.pip.verisignlabs.com/ Glacius

I’m hoping that the server overflow system will help ensure they have a smooth launch.  I know that the first Guild Wars has had less than a full day’s downtime over all of the years that it’s been out, so here’s hoping they can keep something like that going with a full-fledged MMORPG.

  • Jadedsheamus

Well I’ll be lucky to play an hour or so, but hopefully they’ve updated the mesmer traits since last week.

  • Michael Hallock

That’s hardly enough time to swing a sword much less swing a sword again.  That’s just great.

    • Old Ben

You must be lagging pretty badly.

  • Old Ben

Well, well, looks like I should be working as a fortune teller. ;-)

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/536K5RE47JLPRX7HPA6KKNBR3U vanners

    @Michael Hallock LOL!!!

  • Sharuko

Two reason for this.  One is for hype .  Hype pretty much died out, there was so much hype a couple of months ago and now the hype is virtually dead even among the most hardcore fans.  People are already burnt out of the game before release.  So NCSoft has to keep some sort of hype alive so they give players something to talk about.  But all this will do is cause more burn out.

Second, it seems like NCSoft is scrambling because their servers and game is not ready for launch.  Having less than a 24 hour notice on a “stress” test is not normal.  It is amazing to me this game is launching with so little testing.  A pretty well known fact that the last stress test was close to a disaster.

As everyone knows a miracle test or patch won’t fix issues. Better to delay the game instead of releasing a unfinished product.

    • http://glacius.pip.verisignlabs.com/ Glacius

Clearly, the purpose of the stress test is anything other than to stress test.  Why would anyone possibly want to repeatedly stress test a MMORPG?  They always have such smooth launches.  LOL.

You said that the last stress test was a disaster…after saying that the first purpose is hype. Talk about grasping at straws.

You must really have it in for Guild Wars 2 or something.  Plenty of people are still anxiously awaiting the game to come out. There just hasn’t really been anything new to talk about.  There’s no more news of significance.  We’re just waiting to finally be able to play the thing regularly, at this point.

      • Old Ben

Yeah, they want to advertise the game by having as many catastrophic stress tests as they can. It’s a new kind of viral marketing based on ebola.

        • http://glacius.pip.verisignlabs.com/ Glacius

I don’t know if they’re “catastrophic.”  They’re probably trying to see just where exactly the limits of certain things are.  That’s kind of the point.  The actual beta weekends have been pretty good for the most part.

          • Old Ben

Lots of sarcasm detectors seem to be malfunctioning, today. :-P

          • Jay

Only I understand you, Ben! <3

        • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Noticed, they haven’t asked us to all to send mail or access the trading post at same time,  see if we can make a server fall over dead, bleeding from the eyes.

    • Jado Cast

The troll is strong in this one. :)

    • http://twitter.com/losershawn shawn

Looks like someone’s confusing stress test with beta.

    • Jant0n

” Hype pretty much died out, there was so much hype a couple of months ago
and now the hype is virtually dead even among the most hardcore fans.
People are already burnt out of the game before release.”

Anything to support this claim other than your highly biased opinion?

” it seems like NCSoft is scrambling because their servers and game is
      not ready for launch.”

It seems to me like they are testing how well their game and hardware work. Seems like the reason people experienced problems may be because it was a “Stress Test” and was meant to test the game and/or hardware.

“Unlike previous stress tests, we will be actively working on the game during the event, so you might experience connectivity problems

You have 0 idea what you are talking about and obviously do not understand their game design philosophy. Everyone I know is super excited about GW2, I even won over like 5 WoW players the other day to buy it before launch. Also check out their Facebook page  everyone is very excited. So where are you getting your info from exactly? Or are you just a mad WoW player. Pandaboy.

    • Spammerbam

Oh nice one! Just give a little more effort and some facts/sources, and you’ll have a better troll comment. Nice work though; almost there!

    • Jay

Since Jant0n pretty much beat me to the logical response…

I’ll just say, if GW2 was a disaster, Tera was a catastrophe.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/SMGRLFM4UASOO7QO26HTHBLIOI Shawn

Get off your damn soap box already, nobody cares about the drivel you cast out. Just think a few more weeks and your nonsense will be irrelevant as everyone will be in game.

      • Sharuko

No, the difference after launch will be I won’t have to say anything, because you guys will.

Dude what game are you playing, and what are you smoking??  cuz your fuckin crazy and your full of crap.  I played every beta and have been in ever stress test, im fiending like a crack head to play this game..

Careful Glacius, you have Troll agro. XD

Going to try out a new sPvP thief build I found watching Team Legacy. Can’t wait.

QQ anet people have to work.

I just built my new i5 3570k / HD 7850 system two days ago ready for Guild Wars 2. What perfect timing to ‘stress test’ my own system as well as the GW2 servers :D Everyone benefits :D

    • pandora005

My six year old PC manages to run GW2 just fine … no need to go fusion over a top of the line one for the game. You wont notice most of the “ultra” settings while you are fighting anyways and for shots of the scenery you can easily set the graphics to ultra and then go back to a decent setting.

  • pandora005

The stress test was a full success for Arenanet from my perspective. I managed to log into the game after five minutes, got to play for three minutes and was dropped. I gave up on trying to log back in then.
