The Guild Wars 2 Gem Shop is still being tweaked at this late hour, with three new armor skins and a hat being added to the store, while one highly sought-after upgrade has gone MIA.

The three new armor skins are the Primeval, Krytan, and Profane armor sets, all of which appear to be the GW2 versions of their Guild Wars counterparts. Each set sells for 500 gems. Also on sale for the low, low price of zero gems, is a GW2 baseball cap.

A little puzzling, though, is the removal of extra bag slots as a salable upgrade. In previous betas, you could purchase additional bag slots, but they were not sharable between characters. Does this mean ArenaNet is reworking things so that you’ll only need to buy a bag slot upgrade once and have it apply to all your characters? This hoarder hopes so.

Finally, we’ve heard that you can upgrade from the Basic Edition of the game to the Digital Deluxe Edition for 2,000 Gems, even though that isn’t apparent on the Gem Store’s web interface, which can be found here.

You can buy bags and bank space thru each of the Bank / Inventory UI’s! :)

    • http://twitter.com/MattstaNinja Mattsta

^ This. There is a line below the bank inventory space with a Lock icon at the end and in the Inventory the last bag slot has a Lock icon. Double click those and it gives the option to expand. Think it was like 400 gems for another bag slot and 1000 gems for another bank tab.

Did you by chance play in today’s stress test? I can’t be completely sure, but it seems those were removed.

Yep, its there. I took a look at that this evening. Open your inventory and click the lock and it gives you the option to use 400 gems to buy another bag slot.

        • http://twitter.com/joshmiller83 Joshua Miller

Yes. I used both of these options tonight!

      • Deathstar2x

I really hate looking at the lock symbol since I couldn’t play during the 4th anniversary. I am reminded of it every time I look in the storage box.
It’s a clever marketing strategy for gem purchases for Guild Wars 2, but, damn, did it annoy me to no end.

The likely reason that the digital deluxe upgrade costs $25 worth of gems is that it seems like they are going to put some items on a sale rotation for 20% off.  Lo and behold, 80% of $25 is $20.

I suspect there will be bigger sales on certain things on rare occasions, but 20% off looks to be the commonly occurring sale price.

it also rewards people who originally put down money for the DD

      • http://glacius.pip.verisignlabs.com/ Glacius

Well, not really, if people buy it when it’s 20% off.  If they had it for 1600 gems normally, then if they put it on sale soon after launch, there would be an uproar from people who paid the $20.  I think that’s the real reason.

I’ve come to expect every MMO that has a digital deluxe edition to offer the stuff separately for the same price after launch.  It’s become a pretty standard practice.  I won’t be surprised if it is 20% off right at launch, even.

Anyone know where I can see the armor skins for all race/gender combos? All I’ve seen is this asura one and a norn male one. :( :(

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/W76UOX2IDTRMMYTPASSJDLXLRM Bob

      Go to the
bogotter channel on YouTube. He has videos of all the racial armor for each race and gender. Now that is only the racial armor. There are tons more armor (such as dungeon gear, spvp gear, WvWvW gear) not shown on his channel.

Well in a couple of days you can just head over to the appropriate NPC and use the preview feature. :)

For the dungeon sets you can check them in Lion’s Arch near the portals to the WvW.

  • Deathstar2x

    Dang, ArenaNet rehashing old armor!

    • Jay

I’m glad they brought back that old Ranger set, I really liked it in GW1. I’m thinking by the time a lot of people actually get 80 and ran through all the dungeons, ANet will have some new stuff waiting for us.

I have tried the new armors skins in the gems store and personally I loved them. However there is one concern that I come across today during the use of transmutation stones. Since the nature of transmutation, one set of stats/skin is destroyed, so I wondering about the collect-ability of these skins. Say if I have a very ideal end game stats on a gear, ideally what I would do periodically transmute it to other skins for fun. However, with the current system it is inevitable that I will lose the former skin if I were to retain the stats. Is this intended? or will there be other ways to retain both skins?

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Can you use the new gear(with the new skin) as your pattern for any new gear you pick up?

      • http://twitter.com/cyanpill cyanpill

You would have to keep applying transmutation stones to reapply the skin to a new set.

    • itsJUSTINduh

You should get a hold of another set of armor that has the stats you want and a skin you don’t care about/already have and then transfuse them. That way you can collect all your favorite skins and at the same time they can all have your preferred stats.

      • Jay

Good point, I think I’ll end up doing that a lot. Thanks for the tip!

      • jjbros87

I have thought about this, this really depends on how easy end game gear is to get. Yes I know that the actual level 80 gear will be relatively easy to get, I’m more talking on the line of dungeon gears or other sources where I indirectly quote Arenanet that “they have a more extreme distribution of stats”. I guess if the notion is that I have to physically build all the gear I want with both the skin and the stats…hmm I think I can live with that, hmm it does sound pretty good actually. I was just kind of used to the ease of WoW’s transmog system, Now that I think about how it works in GW1 I could see it kind of makes sense now.

I wasn’t paying enough attention when messing with these in the store but they were in the same section as the town cloths. As far as I know town cloths can’t be transmuted with regular armor.

On the other hand the GW2Guru post implies that they are new type of item called ‘armor skin’, so it’s hard to tell.

I have never gotten the impression that the transmutation process was intended to allow skin swapping like you describe. On the other hand with crafting it should be trivial to get items with the right stats so there shouldn’t be a need destroy an item to get the stat unless you are trying to do this for storage space.

    • Jay

You bring up a good point. I’d prefer that we kept both sets of armor, and just have the skin/stats swap. We’d end up with the combination that we like, and we can sell the old armor set or keep it if we wish.

Bag slots are purchased directly from the inventory panel now. Same with bank slots. Click the padlock icon, pay gems, good to go. I personally like it since it streamlines the process: no clicking items received through mail.

    • RolyVento

      Nice!!!

This and bank slots will be the first thing I buy from the gem store,

      • Old Ben

Remember that the bank has separate slots for crafting materials, pets, etc., so none of those will take up any space.

    • Old Ben

Several people complained about that in the forums, starting at BWE1. It’s kind of immersion-breaking to buy interface elements through a shop and see them arrive in the mail. I mean, how do you ship a “bag slot”? It’s not an item with an actual existence in the game world.

I remember some people suggesting that they could just replace those “items” with something else (like a “bank slot token” or a “belt hook”, which you could then present to the bank NPC or double-click to create the extra slot), but this solution is simpler and more efficient (though perhaps not as RP-friendly)

They should do the same for the character slots (just let people buy them directly from the character selection screen).

  • Depravity

    Powerful shit.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/ITHF7XKYGVXFAPCDMDJTKHLBBU Lian Wan

Now they just has to do the rest of the GW1 armor sets, especially the Silver Eagle, Necrotic and Mesmer’s Monument/Obsidian/Shing Jea sets. :)

  • RolyVento

I hope they introduce more armor skins and weapon skins! I bought all 3 armor sets, one for my Guardian (heavy armor), one for my Engineer (Med armor) and one for my Elementalist (light armor).

To bad there is no weapon skin or I will buy that too.

  • DoctorOverlord

Interesting theory about the bag slots, it would be very cool if Jason was right.

  • http://www.facebook.com/shane.hardie.33 Shane Hardie

    The Bag slots are available.

You won’t find it on the store itself, instead in your inventory you simply double click on the locked slot and it’ll bring up an option allowing you to purchase the additional slot with Gems.

The same applies with your bank slots
