In case you were wondering, it wasn’t just a dream that you might have seen the release date for Guild Wars 2 in bold red lettering while walking through your local Gamestop.

But to clarify for those who might be confused, Guild Wars 2 is not set to launch today.

While this statement might seem obvious for some, it contradicts kiosk banners showcasing a 6/26 release date found at many Gamestop locations. While Gamestop has changed their projected release for Guild Wars 2 to December 31st, ArenaNet has stated on multiple occasions that Guild Wars 2 will be ready “when it’s ready”.

So for now you can stop standing in line outside the doors and head home to participate in the stress test tomorrow!

If there is any official announcement on the release date for Guild Wars 2 you can be sure we will notify you right here on GAMEBREAKER.TV.

What if Gamestop handed you everything you wanted and then took it all away?

  • Kodachikuno

    6/26/13

People who pre-purchased their game at gamestop were told this date from day 1.

    • http://www.facebook.com/mitchell.devore.3 Mitchell DeVore

I pre-purchased the morning the pre-purchase became available.. and no, they said they didn’t have an official release date.

  • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

But, I’ve already paid for this game.

BUT MY HEAD START! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! TIME TO GET A REFUND!
    :P

  • serrano786

would be a pretty awesome stunt to have a sudden launch like this…but alas…the game will be ready, when its ready

    • jgelling

I don’t know – some weird launch date might get them a little publicity for doing such an amateurish launch, but then they wouldn’t get the headlines like, “Hey we sold 1 million copies in a week!”

I’d say it’s better to have a big run-up and max the hype with a fixed release date that’s been a long time coming.

    Oh silly Gamestop xD

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JD5RIAPTFFZFIF3DCNYVVG7NIQ Kyle Bohannon

surprised that the title didnt read “Guild Wars 2 releases today!” and then after you click the link it says nah not really we just wanted you to click it

    • Brosaxon

Guild Wars 2 articles get tons of hits just for having “Guild Wars 2″ in the title.

No need for troll titles to get people to click on them.  ;)

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JD5RIAPTFFZFIF3DCNYVVG7NIQ Kyle Bohannon

i dont doubt that, i was just poking fun at the whole swtor shuts down thing yesterday.

looks like with this title they at least put a question mark and a sub header underneath it. yesterday it was just big bold letters SWTOR SHUTS DOWN. and then like 15 mins later someone added a sub header underneath it that said in preperation of 1.3

just humorous is all, nothing to see here move along!! =)

  • http://twitter.com/FishBaitism Fish Bait

6/26 GW2 Gamestop promote release date
6/27 Lynch mob await opening times ;)

  • Christopher A Fejes

This isn’t fair to Gamestop to be honest. If you’ve gone in the store and asked; they would have told you it was on the list of thing waiting for a date.

    • http://twitter.com/borded nathan law

they make more then enough money scamming people with the used game rip-offs to be able to afford someone to keep their website up to date.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tj-Vossos/647768691 Tj Vossos

if you check out the guild wars fan pages on both twitter and facebook you can see gamestop employees lied to customers and confirmed 100% the game would be out today there is a far ammount of outrage about it, silly people need to follow news better nd not follow the words of gamestop

  • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Usually signage like that is paid for in part by the publisher.  Guess I’m a little annoyed that part of my pre-purchased when towards paying for that sign.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/cpjontek?feature=mhee cpjontek

If that annoys you, look no further than yourself to put the blame.  No one put a gun to your head and made you buy it.  If you are like the majority of people here, you bought it so you could get in on betas of a game that looked great from previous tests.  If you are like me and many others you are not disappointed on what they have delivered so far.

      • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Its not the prepurchase.  Its just signage like that is expensive and just a waste of money.  The customer ends up paying for that crap, its just someone at GS or Anet forgot to cancel the order.

Yeah, the BWE have been good.

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/cpjontek?feature=mhee cpjontek

Do we know that Arena Net made those signs and distributed them?  They may have contracted that out to another company who dropped the ball.  If that is the case we wouldn’t be paying for it, the marketing company would be.  If Arena Net did make the mistake then they would need to figure out where they can cut costs which may or may not effect us.

Still camping outside Gamestop. Dreams don’t come true unless you want them to.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jason.jenkins.73 Jason Jenkins

this reminds me of how i use to be cruel to my dog and pretend to throw the ball and have her run after it for a few seconds before she realizes i didn’t actually throw it

whats that girl you want a release date well there it is!!! awwww poor thing just kidding here it is girl go get it!!! awww ok for real this time here it is…..

  • CCLemon77

Actually,  Gamestop had on their PC release list (ON PAPER) for GW2 to be released on 1/1/2013.
3 months ago that same list said 6/26/2012.

I was in a Gamestop yesterday and a customer called up and complained that it wasn’t being released today and brought his receipt back for a refund.  He said he’d rather buy something else.  So, I imagine there are sales lost due to this.

    • http://thepaletree.net/ Verene

Actually, just a month ago that date said 6/26. Originally it said 11/02/09, when the game was first officially revealed and became available. Then 3/1/10. Then 11/1/10. Then 6/1/11. Then 11/1/11. Then 6/26/12. They guess at it. They have to have SOME sort of date in the computer so preorders can be taken, and then those get changed when that date approaches and it’s clear that it’s not coming out that day.

That customer is an idiot. However, I doubt many (or any) sales were actually lost, because people who prepurchased are going to be the ones who know the deal with the game’s release. More likely they lost a preorder.

      • CCLemon77

You’d be surprised how many idiots there are.  Just look at all the people on the road not using their signal when driving.
Anyways, point is, Gamestop sold this guy the game at full price and since the game wasn’t released today, he came back and managed to get a refund.
The last thing this game needs to do is to even turn away people who don’t keep up with the game, and don’t even give it a chance, due to these bad marketing decisions by Anet.  It’s a shame.

        • http://thepaletree.net/ Verene

Trust me, I know how many idiots are out there.

And ANet has done very, very little marketing for the game thus far.

      • http://twitter.com/redshirtarmy Red Shirt Army

How exactly is that customer “an idiot”? Not everyone is up to date with online gaming news. Hell, a lot of the average players of an mmorpg do not even read patch notes. So a gamer goes to their local gaming outlet, puts down money on a game based on a date they advertised, which is false and wants his or her money back? That’s fair, not being an idiot. People forget the last year or two, gaming has really shifted into a “buyers” market, people are not up to taking bullshit from developers, i.e. Mass Effect 3 ending, Diablo 3′s entire failure, etc. That’s $60+ ArenaNet won’t get from this customer (at Gamestops fault no less).

        • Old Ben

          > How exactly is that customer “an idiot”? Not everyone
          > is up to date with online gaming news.

If you pre-order an online game and don’t keep up with online gaming news (at least the news related to the game you’ve pre-ordered), I don’t think “idiot” is such an overstatement.

GameStop could be in a bit of hot water according to Lawsuit
filed today in the US 6th district court. The lawsuit claims GameStop
violated consumer law by intentionally adverting false release dates; to
mislead consumers in order to increase pre purchased sales.

One case site was the recent incident with Arena nets Guild
Wars 2, Arena net itself could be named in a separate lawsuit, since GameStop
is an authorized retailer of Arena Net games, and Arena Net received a large portion
of GameStop’s  sale of Guild Wars 2.

GameStop has been plagued with recent lawsuit,  out of CA from misleading sales practices.

  • ThnagglePuth

Actually, ArenaNet has stated on multiple occasions that they have not given a release date to anyone, so the remark about them having done so is just as bad as GameStop’s made up date.  If you’re going to put something in the break or in a show, you ought to either have it nailed down as a fact or state flat out that it’s speculation on your (or someone else’s part).

  • http://thepaletree.net/ Verene

    Oh for…

It’s widely known that GS guesses at dates for games. Only recently was the date in the systems there changed from 6/26, likely after these signs were printed.

Furthermore, there was an email there today (guess where I work!) saying that, yes, the signs were incorrect, that there was no date for the game yet, and to cover the date on the signage with “coming soon” signs. Someone either missed that or didn’t have time to do so because they cut payroll down to the bare minimum for stores this week while having a sale that requires things to be changed every day. Anyone who actually had any real interest in the game knew that it wasn’t coming out today, and everyone who follows games knows that dates can and do change pretty much constantly. That’s simply a fact of the industry.

  • falknerblitz

    ……..O.o…….

HAHAHAHA, Oh Man…are you….you can’t be……..WOW, just WOW. Someone really needs to get fired.

  • DoctorOverlord

LOL – thanks for the laugh Gamebreaker, I needed that today :)

  • http://twitter.com/Stormigirl1 Ashley Johnson

I personally think allowing GS to take all the blame is ridiculous and irresponsible on the part of the manufacturer.

    • http://twitter.com/melananighthawk Melana Nighthawk

Why, when Gamestop made up their “release date” themselves? It never came from the manufacturer, and the manufacturer has said several hundred times in the last 3 months alone that the date is simply a retailer’s guess and NOT true.

Sorry, but this IS entirely GS’s fault. The only release date information direct from the manufacturer is “when it’s ready” and “in 2012″. There’s never been a specific date – because the specific date ISN’T SET YET.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ken.thrash.1 Ken Thrash

I wonder if 6/26 was actually the planned pre-purchase release date and we are actually AHEAD of time when it was moved to 4/10.

    • Old Ben

Time travel to the past is impossible. I’m not saying that from the point of view of physics, I’m saying it from the point of view of project coordination. Things are never ready ahead of time; that’s wild science fiction. ;-)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bruce-Fauble/1466377126 Bruce Fauble

    Available 6/26/2013 perhaps

  • http://twitter.com/NEMChaos NEMChaos

GameStop loves to quote release dates, then throw you the whole “Yeah its coming out 6/26″. Then “Oh man, its been delayed”. No offense they’ve tried controlling the business over the industry. Aka Deus Ex: HR PC codes.

  • http://twitter.com/Jylveas Jylveas

hmm…. no matter what vid i try and play i just get “sorry, we’re unable to play episode” and wanna watch this one now at breakfast :S

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Willi-Enderle/1668850948 Willi Enderle

Thankfully we dont have a GameStop here.
Could somebody pls get over there and kick them in the nuts? That would be very kind of you.

  • http://www.facebook.com/andrew.ashall Andrew Ashall

seriously they need some gamers in their store XD

  • Photsawee Pao-on

turn the 6 over then you get a 9 so it wil release 9/26!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Shawna-Daniels/1135007726 Shawna Daniels

Maybe just a push to get people in the store, then when they realize GW2 isn’t really released, they purchase a different game instore. I can’t imagine any gamestop manager not knowing the GW2 release date, or lack of one.

  • Mystique60

would have been nice to release yesterday (my bday) but don’t matter cuz I bought my ce on april 10th.  I am just (impatiently) waiting for release :)
