After the slip on the official Star Wars: The Old Republic news feed and James Ohlen letting the gurrcat out of the bag at PAX East, the community team finally announced that Update 1.2: Legacy will be live this Thursday, April 12.

I know you’ve all been waiting for many of the 1.2 features to be implemented. Now, after months of waiting and a month on the public test server, you can finally /roll.

Thank you, BioWare. Your work is done; it was worth the wait.

OK, as you know, that’s not all. If you caught this week’s The Republic, then you are more than aware of the fabulous features in store — everything from user interface changes to guild banks to new PvP and PvE content. If you have a couple of days to read the patch notes, BioWare was kind enough to give them to us ahead of time on the PTS forums.

However, the huge question that only the fans can answer is, “Is this enough to keep players coming back for more?”

GW2 / D3 / TSW = sorry SWTOR it was fun for the first 49 levels

then why’d you watch this video?

      • http://twitter.com/PatchLeishman Patch Leishman

        you assume too much :)

        • Jay

           LOL

        • Damir Miric

Here are reasons why I’m not comming back I have 2 lvl 50s out of 2, 1 battlemaster geared.

First of all on my server 20 people online peak time!!!! No server transfers or mergers and they are prio nr. 1. If I play MMO I want to play it with other people and that means many other people not 10.

You can’t get in to WZ, Raid or HMs. Not that they interest me anyway.
Since I outgear everything and I can’t feel progression anymore.

Legacy has nothing to do with PvP why?
          No ranked pvp?
PvP will get ruined because raiders better gear and my BM gear wont worth shit.
I dont want to raid, raids bore me out of my mind.

Not to mention lags and other wierd stuff that is happening with this game. For God sake 6x 3 Ghz and 6950 should eat this game alive yet my comp is struggling to keep it above 25 fps in pvp.

PS: I’m watching this video because I’m bored and I like people that talk they know what they are talking about.

F2P game suxxor. Not because they might have bad quality but because they have item shops that screw up the competition among players

      • snikendelarveføtter

None of the games he mentioned are F2P. Unless you call games like Cod and mass effect F2P as well. The term you are looking for is B2P. And when it comes to item shops, they come in many variations. You have the B2W shops and you have the vanity shops like GW has had for seven years. Generalizing cash shops is like saying all cars are the same because they have 4 wheels.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ronny-Sunrock/100002737688676 Ronny Sunrock

Well GW2, D3 and TSW have item cash shops.

And no GW2 have pay to win items as you have exp boost and what not. And yes exp boost you can buy for money is pay to win. Everything that makes you progress easier or faster is pay to win in a MMORPG. GW2 does not only have vanity items. Also being able to buy gold or what in game currency is also a Pay to Win thing.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=518607879 Christopher Mitchell

LLLAAAAAWL SW:TOR fanboy alert! If you understand TSW and GW2 systems you would realize that exp boosts are not P2W and rushing thru content is only going to ruin your experience. Be informed and understand easily understandable concepts before you go on a rant over someone dissing your nerdgasm producing content.

SW:TOR is a traditional rush to end game so I can pwn some noobs and raid bosses mmorpg where exp boosts would be to win. The games you mentioned are not following the same model so exp boosts are actually just a waste of money or are convenience items for people who have less time than their friends but more money to stay on the same lvl as them (which again is just unnecessary since GW2 scales your lvl to the content anyways and TSW has no lvls).

          • snikendelarveføtter

            Exactly :o )

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ronny-Sunrock/100002737688676 Ronny Sunrock

I have sworn never to play a game with an cash shop ever. Have nothing to do what I think about SWTOR.

          • InvaderMig

I play Swtor and he is right, if you are doing any type of end game that is. I’m still subbed so I can speak on it.  As far as GW2 is concerned, no it’s not pay to win.  If they had cash shops in swtor with xp boost it’d be a horrible thing.

In GW2 you are scaled in PvP, so racing to end game gives you not much more than the e-peen of saying you did it first. It’s a skill lvling system, and you can choose what skills you want to level at any time you want.  It’s not like Swtor when things unlock with each new level.  You need to inform yourself before you make generalizations based on the standard method.  GW2 is anything but the standard method.

          • snikendelarveføtter

Almost every mmo have some form of cash-shop, even games with sub-fees. Are you gonna quit SWTOR when they implement a cash-shop? (because they will)

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=518607879 Christopher Mitchell

Unfortunately for you though, that is where the industry is going so soon you won’t be able to play any future games if you keep that mentallity. And what someone else said, it’s only a matter of time before some kind of cash shop is implemented into SW:TOR. Of course I won’t be playing TSW at all because you have to buy the game, pay a sub, AND they still have a microtransaction cash shop at launch. No thanks, GW2 has no sub fee so micro transactions are fine but both together is unacceptable.

Also account services should be free otherwise I consider that a microtransaction which SW:TOR has as well. Rift has free character transfers with a cooldown and GW2 will have the (sorta)same, in fact even if you want to just play for a little while on a different server you can and still keep the same home server. Games with a sub should offer this for free. I believe you, Ronny, told someone to transfer servers cus his is dead but he can’t without paying for it and that’s exactly what BW/EA wants him to do. Unacceptable for forcing people to pay more money than the sub for just a chance at enjoying the game.

  • Keigh

Cant wait to play around with the Legacy! Thursday needs to come faster.

  • http://www.facebook.com/davidallmighty David Cohen

hate to be a hater, but 2 day notice might piss some people off who didn’t see it coming and wanna prepare gear and guilds for it. Why not just do it on tuesdays like other MMOs? I know I know I am bitching about a gift, just saying…. I for one am sooooo happppyyyyyyyyyy

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ronny-Sunrock/100002737688676 Ronny Sunrock

Those that did not see this coming on Thursday are not the people that care about stuff like that, or they already have all the gear on at least 2 lv 50 chars already.

  • http://twitter.com/BurntToast256 Burnt Toast

Did they fix the auction house with this patch?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nate-Glass/505341877 Nate Glass

      Indeed they did.

  • Mattias_B

There’s never over 100 people online on my server. None of this patch will address that….. and most of it I can’t do. With 11 people online in the morning we can’t even run warzones. Fuck Bioware, just fuck em!

    • http://twitter.com/TheOpapanax Most Morbid One

      Damn that sucks lol

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ronny-Sunrock/100002737688676 Ronny Sunrock

I feel for you. But on the bright side. Does not take for ever to get to lv 50 either. Maybe you should consider rolling on an other server?

      • Mattias_B

Yes that’s how we fix it, reroll character whenever the server we happen to choose dies and the people we’re paying to run the servers and provide a good service is none the wiser… … …

      • Nut Bunnie

Because that’s always a good solution to poor server infrastructure design decisions. Your FanBoi hat is on a bit to tight.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nate-Glass/505341877 Nate Glass

Anyone who didn’t already know this was coming in April doesn’t pay enough attention to care about having a leg up for patch release. Can’t wait for Thursday. Jesus walks.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nate-Glass/505341877 Nate Glass

actually servers will get more populated with this patch as people come back to check out the new toys. If your server does not…either reroll a different server, or wait for 1.3 and transfer servers.

  • http://twitter.com/TheOpapanax Most Morbid One

I’m not coming back to try this at all. I’m waiting to see if it does fix things for those who are still playing the game. I want to see if the 1.2 Patch actually works. What type of bugs pop up and how it actually impacts the experience to be had with the game.

I’m sure to get the full experience I would need to play myself but I’m just not that interested to do so. I had a bad taste that remains to this day from Feburary when I quit. It’s cool to see the game improve however so lets see if it works.

    Good luck Bioware!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ronny-Sunrock/100002737688676 Ronny Sunrock

If you are this skeptic don’t bather coming back ever. SWTOR is fully playable and has been from day 1. Sure there has been some minor bugs here and there but nothing thats been game braking. SWTOR was just not the game for you.

I think may did not bather to read up on the game and made up there own game in there mind and when BioWare could not live up to the fantasy of what you wanted you got disappointed. I think this is most true about players that only do PvP.

      • Arctorius

        Their god damn it!

      • Arctorius

If BW had released the legacy system and legacy xp bar at the same time then you’d be right. But they released the XP bar, which did nothing appart from allowing you to level up in Legacy for later when they released the system. The XP bar was part of the legacy system but was released before the system. Therefore the legacy system was not playable on day one therefore the game was not fully playable from day 1.

      • snikendelarveføtter

“minor bugs” …damn man you crack me up.

      • InvaderMig

Well I wasn’t sure before, but now I am positive by this ridiculous comment that you are indeed a blind fanboy.  There were most certainly “MANY” gamebreaking bugs from day one that litterally made it impossible for people to continue playing the game, so you should stop talking about things you know nothing about.

One of the class stories was quite literally broken for about 2 weeks and people playing could not progress at all.  People’s modifications in their gear would just up and disappear, rendering hard earned PvP and high end raid gear useless.  EV was bugged so bad that it could not be finished for a few weeks.  Many bosses in both raids at launch as well as many flashpoints were bugged to all hell requiring anyone wanted to finish content to smash their faces for hours, and sometimes days on end, in hopes that they would get lucky and not encounter the “Gamebreaking Bug” this run through.

Dude you talk smack about games like GW2 when you know nothing about them, but still manage to be completely clueless about a game you are playing.  This is a perfect example of a fanboy.    It’s fine to enjoy the game, but you must have been living under a rock if you think there is nothing gamebreaking in TOR.  Hell BW has completely abandoned illum because that zone is so terribly designed and horribly optomized.  Get a clue.

  • http://twitter.com/grizzlyGummy Glajummy

I’m still subbed so I’ll check it out, but if doesn’t blow my mind at the least then good-bye subscription.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chaz.rpg Chaz Davis

Cant get enough of the game, really looking forward to ranked warzone and the legacy system!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Final.sin Ryan Mccarron

cant wait for 1.2 to come on thursday it will be awsome also very nice UI might take it and use something it for myself xD

  • http://twitter.com/Latinkuro Latinkuro

Depending on the features included in this 1.2 update, I might be coming back to swtor.

  • Squglah

schaffnit put your glasses back on your scarin me!

  • http://www.facebook.com/prgx52 Pat Are Green

I wont go back probably. Exactly as he said, blew through the content and level 50 PvP was broken.

  • STORM-GUILD

Why would you want to play with UI like that? may as well put it slap bang in the middle and cover the action.

  • kyle robinson

SWTOR will survive just off the IP and fanboy’s also because its the only starwars game on the market. People like Larry (and there are a lot like him) will keep swtor alive. Now as far as the MMO’s swtor is failed and never will live up to a quality mmo standard just off its core design alone. Real gamers and MMO’ers will never return to swtor its “MMO lite”. Combine that with the worst and most tedious time sync/hamster wheel ever made in MMO history (Legasy System) that forces players to become alt-aholics and destroys any fun that game had. I won’t return for 2 reasons: first as i mentioned the Legasy system is way too demanding trying to force you to lv every class to max lv while the story is not that enjoyable after one go through. Terrible system imo. Second they have no clue how to make quality endgame and engame gear itemization. These 2 reasons are the deal breaker. Let me say I’m a starwars fanboy that is in love with the lore but I hate what BW/EA has done to this MMO. Also the graphics are terrible especially since they removed the high res they had in beta….yeah the ones they still advertise thats not playable.

    • Bill Lia

My favorite part are all the haters… who don’t even play the game anymore… but feel the need to watch a video about it and bash it.
Also I didn’t know that every single one of these haters is either a game designer or a server tech. Obviously Bioware should of hired these great minds who make blind statements like “MMO lite” and “Now as far as the MMO’s swtor is failed and never will live up to a quality mmo standard just off its core design alone.”

You complain about how demanding the Legacy System is (which is a totally optional system by the way) and in the same breath you call it “MMO lite”. Face it… your a self hating care bear. Try playing old EQ or Eve and then come talk about the hamster wheel, grind, demanding MMO.

If you don’t like a game simply don’t play it. Don’t bother those who do and will enjoy it. All you do is poison the waters and further solidify the perception that all MMO gamers are whiny, cynical care bears.

P.S High resolution textures are coming back in 1.2.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bruce-Fauble/1466377126 Bruce Fauble

While this doesn’t really address the majority of your complaints, the high res textures are being added in 1.2 I think.

  • darkrevan

time to watch the subs hit the floor with the  patch after the pvp players leave first the grinding pve players will be gone to when they have nerfed healers and cant run anything.

    • H S

subs hit the floor? it’s already in the basement.

    Anyone? Beuler?

I do. VERY much. But I am an altaholic

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ronny-Sunrock/100002737688676 Ronny Sunrock

Yes I do. Legacy is maybe the one part of 1.2 that I’m most exited about

  • Kristinn Heidar

Tbh it does not matter what should  have been there at launch.  Its free content that ppl are not paying extra for other than the sub.  And sub based game are always gated in some ways.

  • http://www.facebook.com/elias.rowan Elias Rowan

Meh. Cancelled mid March. Too little (or actually too much heh) too late. Tera is a week away from biding my time until GW2. Already uninstalled SWTOR.

  • H S

The irony that this week is the same week the Titanic sunk.

haha ranked warzones pulled from the patch.

    fail more TOR. fail more.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ronny-Sunrock/100002737688676 Ronny Sunrock

First allot players complain that the ranked warzones should get pulled… Then they complain that it was pulled. I guess BioWare fails no matter what they do or don’t.

But for those that don’t know:
“In the future we’ll be rolling the Ranked Warzone Preseason out in phases, listening carefully to player feedback and making adjustments as we go. The first phase will be full team, eight-player queuing only and from there we’ll look at next steps as Preseason progresses. In the meantime we have provided an alternate purchase route for War Hero gear so you can start building your set while figuring out your teams.”

  • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Don’t want to PUG heroic flashpoints and operations. Dont want to level anymore characters. Was really enjoying the PVP within the WZs.  My sorc (War Hero, Valor level 73) was in full Battlemaster gear.  While the new WZs is nice, pvp will be destroyed in this game.

With new ops gear, raiders with a little pvp gear will completely dominate WZs.  PVP is done in this game and with that this game is done and dead.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ronny-Sunrock/100002737688676 Ronny Sunrock

You’re wrong about “raiders”. I guess you’re referring to puling out some mods from operation gear and put into PvP gear to get a bit more stats. However you can get this mods by never ever do an operation. Black Hole armor have the same stats as the Campaign armor but don’t have the set bonus that the Campaign armor have. And you can get Black Hole armor you can get from doing weekly quests for commendations. But yes this means you have to do some PvE content if you want the best of the best gear in PvP.

BTW if you don’t want to PUG join a guild/pre-made or crate one your self.

      • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Got a social guild in SWTOR, not going to abandon my friends. I will continue to play with them in WOW.  Not going to pug. Was having a lot of fun getting full Battlemaster gear, not looking forward to grinding warzone commendations to convert to rated warzone commendations to buy War Hero gear. Hope you are right about PVE gear, but the PVP commendation grind is a concern.  Don’t trust BW will ever get rated War Zones right, its just not within their skill set.   The hero engine was clearly a mistake.

I do agree with your comment about finding a new guild, but I think that guild will be within GW2. I will continue to raid with my friends in wow and find a pvp guild in GW2.  Also plan on killing a lot of allie pandas in wow.
