Stop the presses. Leaked Destiny Preorder Information is out in the open!
For those that are avid followers of GAMEBREAKER you might have noticed our great overlord, The Gannonator, dropping hints about a certain title being announced on SUNDAY. Heck you might even have paid attention to an article that we posted out yesterday detailing a little game called DESTINY.
Well, in true gaming industry fashion, we have the first LEAKS appearing just days before Bungie’s yet-to-be-announced game is even out in the open.
That’s right folks, Bungie’s super secret project that has been in the works for the past 6 years has had some of the shroud surrounding it, removed and we certainly have alot more insight into the game than we did yesterday. Who’s the mastermind behind the leak? Well when we were first talking about it here at Gamebreaker, we all jumped on the Game Stop Band wagon. How brash of us. We also know that the worlds media has had its chance to check out Destiny for itself over the past few days, but they’re under an extremly strict embargo, so surely it wasn’t them?
Nope; Turns out we were all wrong and these leaked images are infact coming from an underpaid Best Buy employee that clearly just wants to irritate his bosses.
So what do we know about the game from these leaks?
Actually there is a ton of information to be had. What you need to know is that these images are of PRE ORDER materials, so these are the things being handed out to stores world wide in preparation of the games announcement on Sunday, February 17th.
So the first thing we get from it; The game is launching THIS year. This came as a little surprise to myself as there was no info provided about the title in the Activision Blizzard Q4 earnings call. On the back of one of the images of one of the pre-order cards, the offer on the card apparently expires on December 31st, 2013. Now although it doesn’t give an exact date, it does show that the timeline that was included in the 2010 Activision court case documents more or less still stands, having stated that a game should be released in 2013, with sequels following it up every 2 years up to 2019.
Next on the list: Destiny is CONFIRMED for Xbox 360 and PS3. Again referring back to the image of the back of one of the preorder cards, there are distinct bar codes for preorders on both the Xbox 360 and PS3, which means that this game will certainly be launching on both platforms instead of my own earlier prediction of it falling to 2014 and the next generation of consoles. Media outlet Destructoid have a picture of the image we refer to right here
The third point of interest that people might be interested to know; Destiny IS an MMO. I know right? This had me by surprise the most, but then all signals have always pointed towards this. One of the images is of a small promotional leaflet that states that Destiny is;
“The next evolution of entertainment – an incredible story set within a newly imagined, always-connected universe”
The next section goes on to say
“Create your character, forge your legend by defeating powerful foes and earn unique and customizable weapons, gear and vehicles”.
So, what? What does that mean? Well more or less this info pretty much confirms that Destiny is an MMO. Bold statement but follow me on this; Those statements carry all the traits of what we generally understand an MMO to be. We know also from the text (which you can see for yourself below!) the game is a FPS. I’m jumping on the boat of saying that being an MMO the style is going to be very similar to what Planetside 2 and Dust 514 are doing, except on a slightly grander scale. I’m thinking a single hub world that you log into and then set out to explore the rest of the world that has been ravaged by the new “horrors” that inhabit what was once our world. I’m also thinking some of those foes won’t be beaten alone and that’s where teams like a traditional raid group may be formed in order to take them down (Think Borderlands 2 raid bosses!).
Finally, alongside some small story details that confirm everything we already knew, we’ve also got our first look at a type of four eyed alien species that will be in the game, curtosy of some promotional posters that will be out on display soon! Wether these are related to our Alien safe guard “The Traveler” or something yet more menacing….well its yet to be seen!
So that about all we have at the moment on the Destiny leak, but by god has it made us excited once more. You can check out all of the leaked destiny preorder images below and be sure to checkin with us here at GAMEBREAKER on Sunday, February 17th as we bring you all the news and info from Bungie’s official reveal of Destiny.
