Lion’s Arch, built upon the wreckage of the Krytan City of the same name, has grown and prospered in the years since the rise of the Orrian Dragon. Founded by pirates and dependent on trade, the city has become a common ground for all the races of Tyria.

Guild Wars 2 City Tour - Lion's Arch

From the statues and stuff when you were underwater, looks like old Lion’s Arch.

Yeah that’s old Lion’s Arch down there. What’s left of it after the flood at least…

  • QSatu

The problem with disapearing (blipping) items when you touch ground with the camera is part of their optimization process and should be fixed by release.

The Underwater area, is the ruins of Old Lions Arch, that’s what the city looked like during GW1

Im the only one to not see every nook and cranny of each of the city. And yeah it was awesome seeing he ended up his stream without knowing on Old Lions Arch.

    • Old Ben

Has anyone checked what happens if you try to swim to the edge of the map? Is there an invisible wall? Do you start taking damage? Or does the game correctly teleport you to the next area?

Explored every city 100% last beta (hit level 8), Lions Arch was by far my favorite.

  • Galdros

The amount of detail per city absolutely astounded me. The content per square inch is stupid high despite the massive size of each city. Can’t wait to spend some down time in Lions Arch on dat high dive :)

    • Old Ben

With cities with so much “vertical detail” it’s really annoying that the camera target is so low. To see the buildings and cliffs you need to turn the camera up, which makes your character block half your screen, and means you can no longer see the floor.

They really need to add an FoV slider, a way to raise the camera (so it points at a place above your character’s head), and make the character invisible when you zoom in all the way.

Lion’s arch also has some mysterious groups on the northwest and southwest corners that you were somewhat near to at the end. In the NW corner is a group of pirates that seem to be outside of the city council made up of pirates… er  I mean ship captains. I’m sure our personal stories will interact with them at some point.
But even more interesting is the SW corner where the Tengu guards will say that a portal there to a whole map of Tyria is off limits to non Tengu. Could it be where the airships are? Could it be the new Tengu homeland and means they will be a future playable race? I’m quite intrigued.

Did they actually say portal? I wasn’t really paying attention and it only looks like a single zone.

The airships that were shown in the GW2 trailer were docked in an area that looks like it would be Norn territory.

      • RBHgamer

I say portal in the sense that every connection from one zone to another is through a portal…

Norn area that has the airships?  It seemed more like LA to me… but I’m sure you could be right.

Way too much snow and mountain to be LA. :)
You might be thinking of the ships in the air. Those are just bits of regular ships used to build LA.

Could we have Elizabeth, giving you a list of the things we see in the video and you commenting on them. I’m sure she would buttclench over lore errors or even location errors.

Still love you B, great videos, but get them facts straight man ;D

The more I see of this game just makes me happy that I spent $$$ on two CE’s edition for me and my fiance! Glad to see it go to a gaming company that prides itself on detail and quality.

Tour of Lion’s Arch in GW1 I found on youtube. Do yourself a favor and mute the sound. Thanks for the GW2 Tour Mikeb!

  • Old Ben

The “whispering” ambient sound was set to a really high volume in this BWE; some NPCs actually “whispered” louder than they talked, which just made it sound like they had some sort of breathing problem.

Mike B., if you wish to know more about Lion’s Arch and how it compares from GW to GW2, seek out WoodenPotatoes  on youtube. You probably heard of him already.  He does a lot of lore and present to past comparison videos.  I think he covered Lion’s Arch in one as well.

As you were in the sewers you looked down to a golden gate underwater.
There is a hole in it where you can dive through. It takes you to another area :)

  • http://www.kaiketsu.enjin.com/ Corey “Crimzen”

Hey heres some lore for you Mike B since you were asking if GW1 fans had any of those nostalgic moments and since you were digging around about info about those gates. The Lions Arch in GW2 is actually the “New” Lions arch that was built from the rubble and wrecked ships that washed ashore from the old lions arch in GW1. When Zhaitan arose and brought the land of Orr with him, a giant wave wrecked and basically submerged the old city. I heard however that if you go underwater in Lions Arch that you can see some of the ruins of the old city still down there. Haven’t tried to check myself yet however. Hope that helps!

  • Karizee

    Another great city tour, Mike.
Lion’s Arch is one of my favorites, it’s almost a zone within itself and the ambient sounds of water lapping against the planks and ships is wonderfully done.
When you started it I was thinking pleasepleaseplease do the diving board and when you started going up the path I went YES!
Did you know that when you are wearing the diving goggles that they give you extra abilities and you can do flips?
Also, that underwater organ you mentioned is in Caledon Forest area. If you play the tune correctly, you get a chest :)

And so begins the misappropriation of Rata Sum, it’s “soom”

    • Old Ben

And so begins the misspelling of mispronunciation. It’s… er… “mispronunciation”.

      Misappropriation is embezzlement. ;-)
