First Of The Secret World Beta Weekends To Kick Off Friday

It’s finally here.  The Secret World is having their first beta weekend event.   Starting this Friday at 9am PST, the event will run through Sunday May 13 at 11:59pm PST.

For those who are wondering, access is only guaranteed to those who pre-ordered the game, achieved Secret Agent rank in The Secret War,  or managed to snag keys at PAX East.  However, Funcom has teamed up with GameSpot for an exclusive giveaway.  So, if you don’t want to buy the game now, you can go check out the giveaway on their site.

Some people may have also gotten invites from Funcom for the closed beta phase of the game.  Please note: this is not the same event and there are a few distinct differences –this is important for any of you who are planning on streaming.

The important things to note will be that the open beta will be limited to the times mentioned above.  It will also only allow participants to play as Templar for this event and will restrict players to the areas of London and Kingsmouth — that creepy little New England town that looks like it popped out of a Stephen King movie.

I can’t wait for this.  Thanks for planning my weekend for me Funcom.

That is, indeed, the CLOSED BETA.  I am assuming you received an email about with a key.  It is completely separate from the upcoming weekend’s OPEN BETA.  They will be running on completely different clients and servers.  There is no way for an open beta player to play with a closed beta player…at least until the merge they clients in the future (if they merge the clients in the future.)

In addition, you are under the NDA.

Second question?  My guess is toquitos.

I think they should have held off on sending out closed beta invites until after the beta weekend, cause now there will be people who probably wont check to see what beta they have and will be streaming and posting pictures.

There has been plenty of events mishandled, over the last 9 months.  It is unfortunate.  Fun Com has not been precise with how to handle the game’s pre-release.  A double beta invite can be added to the list.

The silver lining is that certain people, who VERY much want to test this game…may now do so all week long…potentially until release, a month from now.

If they don’t figure it out between the needed key, the separate client, and the restriction differences…they deserve the ban.

Preorders also get access to the beta weekends as well not just pre-purchases.
