Last week Bioware dropped another podcast for Star Wars the Old Republic and this episode gave insights into the current state of operations, flashpoints, future content, and updates coming to the Legacy system.

Lead designer Jesse Sky and senior designer George Smith took the reins and revealed Nightmare mode will be getting new mechanics to be on par for progression. Story mode and hard mode flashpoints will see a more casual trend since the group finder has been implemented.

“So the main thing we want to do with Nightmare mode is bring it into the progression. Make it a legitimate difficulty mode, actually give it its own rewards. Previously Nightmare Mode has been a challenge mode that you do just for social recognition. And we actually want to bring it in, add new mechanics, and make it a legitimate part of the progression each time we release a new update.”

When asked about Terror From Beyond, the new operation that was hinted at E3:

“So it’s continuing the story of the Dread Masters which we started with Karagga’s Palace and continued in Denova. It’s sort of a dark, almost Lovecraft-inspired thematically, Operation. We were really going for stuff that’s other-worldly and strange and horrible. And that’s something we haven’t really had a chance to get into before.”

Finally William Wallace talked about how players can expect to use Legacy perks to further advance progression while playing different aspects of the game such as space battles. The perks will allow players to continue gaining experience and allow the freedom to play the game they way they want to play.

Players will also be able to purchase items such as the repair droid and have the ability to advance the droid to the point where it will offer respecs while your in an operation.

Honestly, the 1.3 legacy perks have been completely oversold. Even if you chose to ignore the questionable decision to make them purchasable w/ credits, none of the xp perks are high enough to really allow you to truly customize your leveling experience without losing efficiency…especially once you reach higher levels. Flashpoint exp is probably the best of those perks, but even that is a bit underwhelming, depending on the flashpoint(i.e. Colicoid War Games gives next to no exp, regardless of exp modifiers).

I personally dropped a cool mill for every xp perk (Obviously, not a reasonable standard for most players) on my level 20 Sage, just to see how the leveling pacing plays, While it did allow me to skip a few planets it was largely inefficient even with the daily quests supplementing.

Imho the only useful 1.3 character perks are the early speeders (for leveling), field respec (if you’re a person inclined to switch roles on the fly), and the repair droid for raiding,

for hardcore raiders the new legacy brings nearly nothing for us. We clear the FOUR boss raid in a couple hours, most of the time is due to tons of trash, and there is almost no need to repair or respec in this raid. The biggest issue we have is all the lag since server mergers. My guild has decided to close shop after this week, and it will take the new raids being really amazing for us to resub in the future, and if their current raids are any indication, that prob won’t be happening.

Legacy is just a glorified XP bar. There are very few useful things in the legacy window. My guild is going back and clearning all raids in 16/8 to fill progression. I can tell the Lull in content is getting to some people. Bioware’s newest raid sounds really cool, im hopeing it comes soon.
