Rift's events were extremely static. They were all a variation of "Kill X", and got boring quickly. The thing that sets GW2 apart from Rift or WHO is that when an event is failed, it still progresses. So if you fail to stop pirates from taking a town, then they'll destroy the town and start building defenses. This is a lot more dynamic than Rift, WHO, and certainly Swtor.

In Rift, if you don't do anything, then the mobs form invasions, but they'll eventually just stand there in the middle of town. The Rift will even disappear on its own after a certain amount of time, effectively resetting. In GW2, nothing resets or changes until players actually work for it. It also offers variety, so the events are all fairly different (although many appear to follow the "kill x" system).

Whether GW2 will pull this off or not is a subjective opinion that remains to be seen. Whether it is more dynamic than Rift is objective: it just simply is. By the very definition of the word, GW2's events are more dynamic than Rift (and miles beyond WHO and Swtor).

These aren't even events. I went to play them expecting to be playing with other people. You don't. They are just quests that they surprised us with.

An event is where all players in an area share the same objective. Events get players to play together. The only reason to even group up for this is the boss that comes after grinding kill ten rat quests.

Ok I did, you still didn't make your point. The system is GW2 is just a glorified version of Warhammer Online. The events happen in a cycle and repeat in the same area over and over again.

I played a couple of demos of GW2 and it reminds me of Rift in so many ways. Except Rift got the "dynamic" part of the MMO right, GW2 didn't.

First you should look up the words dynamic and static, then i urge you to get your info straight about how it works in gw2, and about rift for that matter. You already said you are gonna play gw2, so you'll find out soon enough how far off you are.

You are wrong. Most of the dynamic events dont need a player to start them off (some do). And the fact that one event chain can bring you across an entire map/zone, makes it alot more dynamic than any other game out there. You can find an event at one end of the zone one time, and the next time you are there, its at the opposite side. In my head that is as dynamic as it possibly can get in an mmo. Besides that, the events effect the world around you.
Rift on the other hand is as static as a dynamic event can be. They pop up on various spots yes, but they dont move, they are more or less identical and they dont effect the environment (except for ruining quest spots)
If you add the fact that gw2 has 1500+ events and several meta event chains, then you should understand my comment to Sharuko.

I judge how Bioware conducts themselves as a company separately from the creative quality of their work, but I do agree that how a company conducts themselves is very important to any MMO.

Game mechanics alone do not make a good MMO. The company needs to provide an ongoing service and clearly they are having some bumps with that.

But Bioware's drama is nothing compared to what the MMO community can provide. Developers are rank amateurs compared to MMO players.

Nonetheless, this was an amusing way to unveil a new story arc.

Technically speaking, Sharuko is correct. The dynamic events in GW2 cycle, are localized to an area and typically need the player to start them. The only thing dynamic about them is the number of players affect the quest in motion, which is also hit or miss.

Your statement can only be made by a person so blinded by love for the game they can't think objectively. Clearly, GW2 "dynamic" events are just Warhammer Online's public quest system that is it. It is the same "dynamic" event in cycles over and over and over again. That is not dynamic that is static.

Rift had a dynamic system with their Rifts and world events. Having scripted events that rotated in cycles over and over again is old school that failed in WHO and will eventually fail in GW2.
