Star Wars: The Old Republic Will Commence Server Mergers In Late Summer

MMO developers do everything in their power to stay away from the dreaded “server mergers” but sometimes they are left with no other choice. In a blog update today Bioware laid out how they plan to successfully bolster player population across Star Wars The Old Republic servers later this summer.

“To continue to enhance the overall gameplay experience for current and new players, we have eliminated the option to create characters on selected origin servers. Visit www.swtor.com/transfer to see a list of all the selected origin servers that will be affected. Later this summer, any remaining characters on selected origin servers will be automatically moved to designated destination servers.”

If you are looking for more information on these merges be sure to visit the Bioware Help Center.

SWTOR was a massive dissapointment for me. Never before had I been so excited for a game, so much in fact that I actually started watching SWTOR Podcasts, (which is how I ran across gamebreaker.tv) I visited their forums every day and eagerly anticipated every convention.

I bought the collector’s edition and ended up playing for two months. To have server mergers within a year is a sad thing indeed.

The fatman server is a destination server. so that means you can still make new toons on that server.  and fatman is still very healthy. the
origin servers are being locked. or i should say has been locked. to get
ready for the f2p to lvl 15. Bioware doesnt want any new F2P players to
make new toons on these ” locked servers ” now if you already have toons
on these locked servers already, you can still make new toons on them.

and yes we heard the earnings call .. first its 1.7 then its 1.3 .. and now we dont know.
so no one really knows as of yet. wait for the next earnings call and see where we are with the numbers then we can see about free to play.

Seems MikeB and MikeS were confused and talked over each other.  I think MikeS was saying BW is locking off low pop servers.  Is Fatman still a high pop server?

           Yes

They overreacted to the initial launch demand with too many servers. This is a step in the right direction.

Not sure if I want to rename all of my toons…
I will probably drop the sub if I have to give up my names for crappy leftovers, srry.
I know it seems trivial, but to me it’s not.

    • Jado Cast

I don’t think it’s trivial. I would have to agree with you, that’s just wrong.

in my personal opinion they would have gotten more respect from me had they just simply used the words server mergers instead of calling that blog “Character Transfer, Server Populations, and You (Part II)” atleast then it would have been more like them saying yes all the nay sayers were right we didn’t beat wow…or any other mmo for that matter…but we are still here and we are not giving up.

  • Spatology

The higher populated servers are really great. I’m looking forward to new content and paid transfers for my toons i created on Fatman.

This is one of those situations where they were damned either way.  2 million people at launch were screaming because of Q times.  Then 1.8 million people left the game within a few months and now too many servers.  All I have to say about that , they should have released a better game, not a shitty copy of another MMO.

Get it right.  No it’s not locking character creation on servers like the Fat Man.  It’s on servers that are dead and where people moved FROM.  People moved TO the Fat Man, so you can still create characters on that server.

    “You’re level 53″?  There isn’t a level 53.  Proof, erm, watch/listen.

Merges will be “later this summer” not “in late summer”. It could be as early as July 31, since the transfer rewards end on July 30 and July 31 is a Tuesday (maintenance day).
