OK, I really need to say this, even though this episode was just over a month ago.

In EVE, you buy PLEX with real money, it doesn't go the other way, never
has, and probably never will. All PLEX is is a token that you activate
in game to extend your subscription by 30 days, the most successful
players in eve can pay for their game time through buying PLEX for the
in game currency, ISK. you can trade PLEX for another cash shop currency, AUR, I cant remember the exchange rate off the top of my head...

People are being far too immature over this monocle debacle. So what it costs 70 dollars if you buy PLEX and buy it straight out, if you actually manage to earn a fair bit of ISK, you can buy it using all in game currency. That's how this game works, get over it.

CCP has most definitely
tried to learn from their mistakes and have fervently tried to atone for
it, by actually coming out and saying, yea we fcked up, we are going to
fix it, and actually showstheir players, "yea we are actually fixing it,
see?". the player base in this game enjoys it so much, the voter turnout (%)
for the CSM vote was leaps and bounds more than the USA presidential elections. CCP is the only game company that I have heard of that actively "hires"
elected player representatives to help develop the game.

This game is
almost 10 years old, with the 10th anniversary next year, and have put
out at least one FREE expansion almost every year since it started. They
have retooled the engine and graphics to increase graphic and game play fidelity and
stability more than twice in the entire history of the game, as well as developed
advanced server stability and lag reduction (nigh, lag ELIMINATION) system through
the "time dilation" technology they developed.

Also, in order to actually do any sort of real damage in EVE if you started now in low sec and null space you need to spend more than 6 MONTHS MINIMUM training skills for a single type of fit for a single tier 3 ship of one race and one weapon system, fit with modules that compliment the particular weapons and ship. that barely includes the 50 some odd other ships you can fly and fit with another thousand some odd modules, nor does it include the industry skills and ships. back in 2009, there was 408 million skill-points to earn across all of the skills, that turns out to about 17 years to learn everything, and in the current version, there's enough skill points for over 20 years worth of training.

No, that is not a typo, over 20 years.

This game is not for kids. This game is not easy. This game breaks all of your standard rules in other MMOs.

I am happy with the cosmetic microtransactions. If CCP wants to build on that, great! Corp/alliance logos on ships, special tattoos, avatar accessories, all are good, as long as it's not months of dedication for no gameplay. My corp/alliance logos are horrible, but I would use a plex for some a sweet pair of fuzzy dice for my blaster Thorax cruiser, cute pink engine trails for my frigate or a cool neck tattoo.

Having better modules/gear/ammo for your ship as microtransactions is a balancing trick. I would be ok with a well thought option of paying for some items that provide a bonus over the common stuff. Faction items are in game and the cheaper/lower tier ones are quite popular in high security space, so why not.

On the other hand, having something that gives a significant advantage or new gameplay option and is only available in the cash shop is not ok. The main reason being that almost everything you do in eve has consequences for those around you. If my ships get blown up or my home invaded and I'm kicked out, it should be because the other side was better, not because they spent considerably more money on the game than me.

The good thing is that the setback has really made CCP responsive to feedback and a lot of their developers seem reinvigorated.

The newsletters was an open discussion. And I really hate how the media has gotten stuck on the overprices monocles and not the failed roll-out of incarna (which was the real problem). I don't mean to be rude but the Gamebreaker host's have been stuck on that for a while now and it's uninformed.

Thing is it doesn't really matter how you get your isk (time in game or real life cash) it all gets blown up in the end. I for one want to see Team Tech lose all their space and supers so more power to the CFC. Goons can be dicks but they do have the numbers to beat the RMTing super fleet that could eventually control all of 0.0 space. Let's get those expensive ships out of the game please. =)

The funny thing is that Eve is already a Pay2Win game in some respects; but you need to spend a lot of real money to get enough in-game money to buy "good" equipment. On top of that barrier, you still need to train up the relevant skills to use the equipment you acquire. Following that, you need to understand tactics which can only come through solid experience.

Thus, the only way that CCP could make Eve "Pay2Win" would be to make skill training become hugely accelerated through a microtransaction.

I hope they stick to cosmetics, maybe ways to recolor your ship or put corp logos on them and such. Anything other than that I don't want in microtransactions. Any modules or ships would just ruin the market.
