Challenge Mode Leaderboards have appeared on the US and EU battle.net sites! With Mists of Pandaria, Blizzard have introduced a new variety of content: the Challenge Mode dungeon. In these dungeons, pre-made groups of friends or guild-mates come together and compete to complete the dungeons in the fastest times.
Challenge modes can’t be queued for via a dungeon finder or similar, they have to be entered by a pre-made group, with challenge mode activated. On beta, gear was scaled up to item level 463. This won’t be the case in live, but the scaling down of any gear above 463 will continue throughout the life of the content.
A host of new features have been introduced surrounding the Challenge Mode dungeons, including the ability for the leader to reset a run that’s all going horribly wrong, and a removal of the daily instance limit. The Leaderboards were announced a few hours ago on battle.net, with some interesting information on how you can review the times on your realm.
Times are automatically submitted, as you would expect, and ranked Gold, Silver and Bronze. The three ranks relate not to your position on your server, but to time cut-offs. So, going faster than a certain time will earn you Bronze, hitting the next cut-off will get you Silver, and the next will get you Gold. Rewards for hitting certain medal colors are purely cosmetic, but completed runs do award Valor Points, so it may well be worth pushing to the end of a failing run.
The leaderboards aren’t very full right now, given that most players are caught up with leveling, but once they are filled up, players will be able to get a lot of information about the ranked teams. Players will be able to view teams comps, including links to those players’ spec and gear, so a viewer can see exactly what the top-ranking teams are doing. There is even the possibility to filter the results by comp, so players can view all ranked comps which feature a warrior, or all which have a certain combination of two, three, four, or five classes.
Challenge modes are a really exciting addition to the competitive side of World of Warcraft, putting the PvP in PvE!
