The Great Weapon Fighter Adds The Hack N’ Slash To Neverwinter

If you like Dungeons and Dragons and wielding over-sized two-handed weapons, then here’s some news that is right up your alley. Cryptic Studios has revealed its fourth class for the upcoming free-to-play MMO, Neverwinter, and included a flashy trailer to feast your eyes upon.  Great Weapon Fighters are exactly what you think they are: beedy, hulking melee combatants eager to get into a scrap with their over-sized weaponry.  Great Weapon Fighters think spells and defense are a waste of time and seek to make short work of enemies by charging in and performing arcing area-of-effect cleaves.

Great Weapon Fighters are damage dealers, but they can also be used as an off tank in sticky situations.  Their charges and sprints make them very mobile and they also have some crowd control in the form of knockbacks and slows.  If enjoy being close enough to the action to catch a whiff of bugbear breath, then this is the class for you.

The Great Weapon Fighter joins the Trickster Rogue, Control Wizard, and Guardian Fighter as possible choices for players when Neverwinter releases in early 2013.  Beta signups are now being accepted so go throw your name into the mix.  Give us your thoughts on the oddly-named class in the comments section below!

looks awesome, but what are daily abilities. Cos if they are use once a day then thats laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame

It’s probably just an inheritance of the term “Daily abilities” from DnD, most likely just have longer cooldowns.

Probably can only be used once per dungeon or once per rest point.

Yeah, Curtis is pretty much spot on… They used the daily skill multiple times in the demo they showed off. Maybe a 90 second cooldown, or something similar.

Man I love these naming conventions!

Too bad physics only kick in when targets die. No stagger mechanics or anything, I just wish MMOs would go the more intuitive route in combat.
