The new Blizzard Launcher has gone into open beta!!
If you don’t remember, back in June Blizzard was looking for beta testers for their new launcher. Well, that launcher has now been pushed into open beta. Naturally, I had to download it and see what was so special.
First off, the launcher allows you to sign into your battle.net account and stay signed in for up to 30 days. It is completely up to you if you decide to leave the launcher open on your desktop or shut it down. Mine will more than likely stay up at all times.
I do have to say I am impressed by the launcher. On the left hand side are all of your Blizzard games, and each game has its own tab with relevant news. You can redeem your game time codes, get the latest patch notes, and even uninstall the game right through the new launcher. My online battle.net friends are shown – along with what they’re playing, server, and zone. For privacy purposes I blocked my one online battle.net friend’s name, but left the server and zone so you guys can see it.
Right next to the play button – at the bottom – it tells you how much game time you have left. That is something I always forget about. Usually I try to log in and get the “no more game time” message.
On the right hand side, you’ll see a link to the Blizzard store. I’m just going to leave it at that – please don’t yell at me.
There is a news tab at the top of the page. It takes you to a list of all of the latest Blizzard posts and news. That is going to come in real handy for me!! You can filter the news to your specific game, or just have everything listed.
There is a drop down menu – at the top of the launcher – that will take you to account management, support, and settings. That’s also where you go if you want to exit the launcher – for those that don’t push the magical “x” in the top right hand corner – and where you can sign out of your account.
Have you downloaded the new launcher yet? If so, what do you think of it? For someone who is browsing through the World of Warcraft and Hearthstone sites several times a day, this launcher is the greatest thing to happen to me all day – keep in mind it’s still pretty early here. The only thing I haven’t been able to access through the launcher is the forums. Looks like I’ll have to do that the “old fashioned” way.
If you are interested in testing out the new Blizzard launcher, you can do so here.
