Think we forgot about you?

No, you don’t get off that easy!

Here’s our first recap of Over/Under, looking back at the predictions people made of the Guild Wars 2 launch date back on June 4. In hindsight, we probably should have pushed the target date back a bit — maybe it was just our unrelenting optimism coming through.

Still, we were a little amazed that as many people picked the Under — a pre-July 24 launch date — as did. 43 people were also hopelessly optimistic, while a whopping 302 picked the more realistic — and eventually correct — option.

And one commenter, Adam Elliott, was spot on with his prediction:

Over. August 28th.

Others were not so optimistic:

Over, we will be lucky if we see it in 2012. Q1, 2013.

Well, we’re happy enough that they were wrong. And we’re thankful that we won’t have to wait until Thanksgiving.

But did they have to put the launch right before PAX Prime? /whine

My original prediction was August, I was recently thinking of changing it to September – October, looks like I was right the first time though. Still; awesome all around.

  I’d like to, but I have to pick O/U results that can be unquestionably confirmed. Unless we can be sure ANet will tell us one week out how many sales they have, we can’t really go with this.
  
  Now, it’s probably a safe bet that the game will sell at least 1 million copies, and will probably boast about it, so a “How many days before ANet announces 1m sales?” O/U might be in the works…

I didnt thik they would release in the summer, but school will be back in by Aug 28th so i guess it isnt technicaly still summer for the majority of the player base.

For a very long time I was thinking about 2 dates. The very end of June or 1st of September. At least I was a little bit close =P Mmos don’t release when all the kids are away on summer vacations.

Of course you realize this means that MOP will be aiming for a late September release to compete as well as catch those people who have had their fill of GW2. So knowing blizzard as we all do, late September is my estimate for MoP release. Still I am much more looking forward to GW2.

I voted over but I wasn’t expecting it to occur in the autumn, pretty cool that the release is happening at the end of summer.
