Level 80 Paladin Tank Solos Mists Raid Bosses

A level 80 Paladin tank has soloed Mists of Pandaria raid bosses aimed at players 10 levels above him.

Faruz of Chaos Crusade on Ravencrest EU, has taken advantage of a fairly long-standing bug affecting tanking, which has existed since Blizzard’s latest World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria, launched in 2012. The bug basically meant that level 80 characters, such as Aelobin, the soloing DK, could get their Vengeance up so high that, in this case, Faruz was generating between 2 and 2.5 million, yes, you read that right, million, attack power.

This pushed Faruz’ DPS up, again just like Aelobin’s, to over a million, hitting around 1.2 million at times. More than enough for a level 80 paladin tank to solo raid bosses! This attack power level resulted in his Seal of Insight proccing for way beyond his maximum health pool every time it popped. He reports that his biggest heal was 1.5 million from Seal of Insight. He was also absorbing huge, huge amounts from Sacred Shield.

As for a level 80 being able to get into level 90 raids to solo bosses, that’s pretty straightforward. Just have a level 90 go in before you, then follow them. The same applies for level 85 raids, like Aelobin’s attempt on a World of Warcraft Cataclysm boss in the Firelands raid at level 80. There’s no hacking, no cheats, no private servers, no exploits, just a crazy bug to a tanking passive and a big chunk of skill. Faruz also soloed the Stone Guard bosses with his level 80 paladin tank, and had a go at Feng the Accursed. You can check out Faruz’ armory here, for verification!

And, at last, this was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Blizzard. In Mogushan Vaults, Elegon is one of the more famously difficult bosses, so to have a level 80 beat him must have been too much for them to bear. In an MMORPG like World of Warcraft, it’s not good for players to be able to totally ignore the gear grind and mechanics of fights! Thanks to Faruz, and probably Aelobin’s level 80 death knight tank soloing, Vengeance has now been hotfixed to scale to a maximum number matching a player’s health pool. This should fix most of these issues, until the next workaround appears!

    /sigh.

I was hoping to hear Olivia talking (Could listen to her talk all day long) but there is no audio with the video. I reloaded it and got the same super loud Verizon ad twice, but no audio with the video. Guess I’ll imagine her talking then.

I keep saying this here over and over again.  The core systems of MOP are broken on so many levels.  This just goes to shows ppl that dont listen what it actually means.  Vengeance is ofc just a joke from the start.  And when tank does more than 50% of dmg AND healing then things are really broken.

But these are the things that can easily be calculated.  There are others that are harder to figure out like role balances and thats where BLizzard screwed up big time this expansion.

Personally, I enjoy tangling with warriors on my warlock.  It’s all about maintaining control while your dots eat them up.  Not to close so they can hit you, not to far away so they can charge you.   After taking out the healers, you take out the warrior so they don’t run amok.

In normal 10 mans, I haven’t seen this as a problem.  My dps is always higher than the tanks and good tank self-healing is great for the healers.

On a single target boss fight, with the exception of DK healing since it is literally part of their mitigation, any DPS/Healer that isn’t blowing a tank out of the water with dmg/healing out is just outright a terrible DPS/Healer.  Only in 5 mans is there any excuse for a tank dominating any meter, and it’s a very thin excuse.  Also, Dularr is right.  Normal tank healing isn’t OP and if used well, it’s a huge burden lifted from healers (which is by design, tank and healers working together).

I will admit, though, that Vengeance as a mechanic is a lazy fix to gameplay.  Blizzard seems to be under the impression that us tanks, particularly us tanks from Vanilla, play a tank to be a DPS.  Most likely they saw the shortage of tanks, realized that most run of the mill people found it boring and the average people that did play tanks weren’t bright enough to grasp the nuances of doing it right.  Their answer was to make it more exciting by letting them get to see ‘big’ numbers as well.  Piss poor fix.  On the flip side, it entertains me to no end crushing the meters in 5 mans/LFR versus the clueless.

It’s really not hard to figure out role balances at all.  What is hard is figuring out how to define the same role over multiple classes by making them feel different without being overpowered.  Their decision to homogenize buffs/debuffs helped, but diluted everything that made any given class/spec special to begin with.  I would have opted to the previous design.  Don’t just strive for a bring the player OR class, but strive to design with enough depth that you want both.  Look at any MOBA.  It’s not fun because everything is perfectly balanced, it’s fun because each character has just one little thing that is slightly off balanced and overpowered about them, that really shines when played well and with team work.

its a private server has to be no way a level 80 could get into Vaults

You don’t read much do you?  It’s explained in the write up.

As a former wow player i was always drawn to find way to defeat “impossible” bosses with pure class mechanic. Guildies hated me coz they need to be in raid with me so that i could do my dirty deeds /no bg or anithing else , except for world bosses :P That is why i feel like i get hit  by a sucker punch  every time someone using or abusing a bug is called skilled.
-> youtube : Warlock Solo: Molten Core – Part 1 ; this is skill & btw those are NOT my videos , would feel guted stealing someone achivements.

all wow players should get used to this vid coz in few months they will do same dps.

…his armory opened just fine for me.

  • BIOGEN

Just watched the vid, his sacred shield keep resetting and never went off, so he took no damage on top of hitting for 8 mil on a level 90 raid boss while he is at level 80 in poor gear and in an encounter of which is is not qualified for is just cheating! Gamebreaker should be ashamed for even posting such erroneous vids.

      Instant
      6 sec cooldown
      Requires Paladin
      Requires level 45
Protects the target with a shield of Holy Light for 30 sec. The shield absorbs up to343+1.17*holy spell power damage every 6 sec. Can be active only on one target at a time.
I’ll just let you read the tooltip yourself as a response to the buff resetting.

      • BIOGEN

I have 2 pally’s and know how to play them, not to argue, but watch the vid…he took no dmaage at all and I assure you that boss hits like a truck with him having only 105K HP he would be dead in 3 hits. The Ss absorbs roughly 900K damage over the 6 sec period and the boss hits every 2 seconds, but believe what you like.

        • http://openid.aol.com/jpuffer87 Justin Pfeifer

fail at math bro 343+1.17*2m = alot more then 900k plus he’s got some mop gear so a 43% chance to parry so he’s going to straight up avoid a large amount of damage just from that so the shield lasts much longer

    • http://www.facebook.com/jeremy.thompson.18007 Jeremy Thompson

Its not cheating there is ilevel 458 gear for level 80s, being able to get in is wrong being able to do it is not

You really should know what you are talking about before you start bashing people that do.

That being said due to how the stats scale with levels this is very doable.  If you look at how high the stats are on the blues avail for lvl 80s in mop it is not hard to see how it is done.

  • Brendan Plane

How Does he hit the boss with a level 80 Hit Rating?

    • http://twitter.com/NaamahNeko Anna

I haven’t played WoW in a couple months, but I think the miss cap is still pretty low, like 25% for 4+ level difference? Either way, at level 80, with an ilevel of at least 415+ (probably closer to 425, the sheer absurdity of those secondary numbers, even if only reforged to hit, would easily enable you to do the same. A pair of bracers can give you like 6% hit with the imbalance of gear this time around (which for some reason, decided to pretend cata never existed, a policy I’m okay with on the whole).

    Good job blizz XD

  • Morturion

Things like this can make me wonder if Blizzard either doesn’t care, is just lazy or if gamedesign really is that difficult … anyhow It does allow cool things like this to happen :)

  • Daniel Wharton

Surely this is exploiting a bug?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-Nixon/100000593502098 David Nixon

Getting in was a bug, but being able to kill the bosses was more clever use of mechanics. Either way it’s fixed now.

wth man, every time i see something silly coming from Blizz i think thats the new level of silly. this time they reached new heights
8.000.000 DMG, oh. its a paladin, every thing is fine
