Patch 5.2 Release Date Announced Via PvP Season End?
Blizzard posted the following announcement late last night about the PvP season ending – does this mean we now know the patch 5.2 release date?!
Arena and Rated Battleground Season 12 is scheduled to end on Tuesday, March 5. At that point, we will determine who is eligible for the end-of-season rewards, a process that should take approximately one week. It’s very important for players who feel that they may be eligible for Arena titles and/or the Malevolent Gladiator’s Cloud Serpent to refrain from transferring their characters to another realm or faction until after Season 12 ends. The awarding of Season 12 titles and mounts will occur approximately 2 weeks after the season ends.
The next Arena and Rated Battleground season will begin approximately one week after the current season ends. During the break between seasons, all Rated Battleground and Arena matches will be unavailable. Team and Personal Ratings will be reset when Season 13 begins.
As a PvPer, of course, this entire announcement is interesting, but the bold sections are the ones applicable to everyone. Blizzard community rep Bashiok tweeted the following a while back:

This was also backed up by the official @Warcraft twitter.

So, it looks fairly likely that the patch will arrive on March 5th, although absolutely not set in stone.
From a PvP perspective, what should you do to prepare?
We already posted and amended a guide to preparing for the patch 5.2 release as a PvE-focus player, but what about PvPers?
- Spend your conquest on upgrades. There’s a rather convoluted gear changeover with this season end, as the upgrade vendor disappears and conquest is converted down to honor. Fully upgraded current conquest gear will be better than patch 5.2 honor gear, as the item level is being dropped to 476 with the changeover, but PvP Power and PvP Resilience are being buffed to compensate.
- If you’re in title range, don’t leave your team, faction or server. All of these things can mean that you won’t actually end up with the title you should have got, so exercise caution!
- Purchase your Tier 2 weapons. If you’re eligible for these, they’re a no-brainer. Tier 2 is being effectively removed with patch 5.2, as the rating requirements disappear. These weapons, especially if upgraded, will be the best available for some time.
Team and personal rating are being wiped, but it appears that MMR will remain. This could be seen as a blessing or a curse, with the shambles that was season 12, but Ghostcrawler has previously said that resetting MMR does more harm than good. What’s your take on this?
