UPDATE: Valor reset cancelled!

Check out our updated post regarding the cancellation of the valor reset!

Blizzard’s Bashiok posted today, saying that the patch 5.2 release date was currently expected to be the last week in February. This means it’d most likely drop Tuesday, Feb 26. That’s really, really soon, given that we were all expecting the patch 5.2 release date to be around the March/April period. So, with the patch arriving so soon, what do you need to be doing right now to prepare?

1. Get your characters to at least ilvl 480.

Chances are you’ve done this already, 480 is a pretty low item level for a regular raider, but just in case, and of course for alts, this is the number to aim for. Why’s that? Well, that is the barrier for entry into the patch 5.2 Raid Finder. Why do you want to be doing the raid finder? Well, that’s not only where your gear drops, it’s also where you can earn reputation with the patch 5.2 faction, which is the reputation you need to get access to valor gear. Raid Finder will likely grant this reputation to a point, but no further.

2. Spend your Valor NOW!

There are several good reasons to do this. Firstly, the one mentioned above – you need item level 480 to get into the new Raid Finder. Secondly, all your valor will be converted to justice with the patch, and if that takes you over the Justice cap of 4,000, any additional JP will be converted into gold. However, the valor gear is NOT being altered to be purchased with JP, it’s still valor gear. However, it will be heavily discounted. Nonetheless, it’s still locked behind reputation, so have a good think about what you want to do. UPDATE: Given that the Valor conversion has been cancelled, SAVE YOUR VALOR! Don’t spend it!

3. Upgrade before the patch!

The Upgrade vendor will be removed from the game in patch 5.2. Use it or lose it! Weapons are always a good choice for upgrades, and failing that, check out where in the new raid your upgrades are likely to come from, and decide what to upgrade based on how soon you’ll get to something useful for your spec.

4. Don’t spend your Lesser Charms!

With patch 5.2, lesser charms of fortune will convert into a new charm – the Mogu Rune of Fate. Elder Charms will still be used for patch 5.0 raids, so the content we’re still in right now – Mogu’shan Vaults, Heart of Fear, Terrace of Endless Spring – but Mogu Runes of Fate will be used for the new ones. Happily, they cost exactly the same as the Elder Charms, but now’s probably a good time to start saving Lesser Charms for the patch.

5. Get your Tillers rep to Exalted!

This will allow you to carry out Work Orders, dedicating half your farm for growing vegetables for other factions. The Tillers are your friends, for real now. You’ll also be able to buy the farm, but this doesn’t require exalted rep, only that you have all plots unlocked. While you’re at it, don’t level your Blacksmithing. There’s a catch-up coming, just like the one for Cooking!

That’s all from us, but what are you doing to prepare for patch 5.2′s release? I’m continuing not to do dailies. Although, I have planted some scallions.

So does that mean they announce season end tomorrow?

  • crothcipt

I’m gonna have my second chr into raids, and lvling up my 3rd toon to be able to go in raiding in a pinch.  3rd toon I won’t transfer coins.  But the other 2 I prob. will each week until the week before.

After you get your first chr. through to ex. the others is just a matter of quick time.

    1, 2, 3, I’m screwed.
    4:  Meh, kinda?
    5: Well 1 out of 5 isn’t that bad…

      I’m Ready !! I’m Ready !!

Getting that ilvl to 480 is fairly important if you want to get into the new lfr.  I wouldn’t worry about the others.

Is the audio out of sync for any one else ?

    • http://twitter.com/oliviadgrace Olivia Grace

Probably, unfortunately. :( We’re having audio sync issues, but it’s our no.1 priority!

In that case talk faster but slow the play back down! :P

There goes down the drain Blizzard plans for faster updates

3months wait for one update is not delivering faster content

    • http://twitter.com/Cervantas_1 Cervantas

Uh what? 3 months from 5.1 is alot faster then before though considering 5.1 wasn’t new raid content it has been about 6 months between tiers which is normal. You just need to not be so jaded and angry and be happy they give you updates at all. If you were expecting faster raid tier updates you didn’t understand what they told us from the start.

You are playing this MMO?  The amount of content in this expansion is staggering.  If anything, they put in too much content and too many factions reps.

While I agree they are not putting in monthly content updates.  But most MMOs that I follow with monthly content are putting out content that is simply consumed in a few hours.

    • http://twitter.com/Hagg3r Michael

To be fair, this is a big update. On the other hand they have not lived up to their promise imo. Basically they still have the same big patch every 5-7 months but take some content out for a smaller patch in between (5.1). I suspect we won’t see new raid tiers any faster then that, which is where the bulk of the update content comes from. The only real content in the last patch rivals that of a SWTOR patch. Rift still blows them away for content update frequency and quality. GW2 probably will in 2013, but not quite yet. I suspect that starting this year we will see far more content in that game then WoW. The feb patch is bigger then 5.1, so that is already pretty close if you ask me. 5.2 not even close obviously, but I think in the time it takes to produce a content patch of that size GW2 will have produced more patches with more total content. (Again, this year…not yet)

Not sure they can stick to this date.  They have alot of testing to be done – including all 25 man content.

It sounds to me like they are trying to get some interest going with this date + on sale offers.

But it just shows how desperate they are atm.   Its ready when its ready worked great in the past.  Now they are obviously forced to stick to dates cause of other game releases like SC.

I will stick to my earlier predictions.  Last week of March.  This way they can get those ppl that buy game on sale now to pay extra month in sub to play 5.2.   And Blizzard is just about buisness now.

  • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Olivia, I think you are missing one.  I think this patch might require a bit of PvP gear. Not full arena quality gear, but enough so World PvP is not a problem.

It’s misleading to call this a release date in your headline.  There was no official announcement of such.  That’s not what Bashiok said.

Realy awesome coverage.  Excellent tips, thanks Olivia!  Very good summary, im impressed!
