UPDATE: Valor reset cancelled!
Check out our updated post regarding the cancellation of the valor reset!
Blizzard’s Bashiok posted today, saying that the patch 5.2 release date was currently expected to be the last week in February. This means it’d most likely drop Tuesday, Feb 26. That’s really, really soon, given that we were all expecting the patch 5.2 release date to be around the March/April period. So, with the patch arriving so soon, what do you need to be doing right now to prepare?
1. Get your characters to at least ilvl 480.
Chances are you’ve done this already, 480 is a pretty low item level for a regular raider, but just in case, and of course for alts, this is the number to aim for. Why’s that? Well, that is the barrier for entry into the patch 5.2 Raid Finder. Why do you want to be doing the raid finder? Well, that’s not only where your gear drops, it’s also where you can earn reputation with the patch 5.2 faction, which is the reputation you need to get access to valor gear. Raid Finder will likely grant this reputation to a point, but no further.
2. Spend your Valor NOW!
There are several good reasons to do this. Firstly, the one mentioned above – you need item level 480 to get into the new Raid Finder. Secondly, all your valor will be converted to justice with the patch, and if that takes you over the Justice cap of 4,000, any additional JP will be converted into gold. However, the valor gear is NOT being altered to be purchased with JP, it’s still valor gear. However, it will be heavily discounted. Nonetheless, it’s still locked behind reputation, so have a good think about what you want to do. UPDATE: Given that the Valor conversion has been cancelled, SAVE YOUR VALOR! Don’t spend it!
3. Upgrade before the patch!
The Upgrade vendor will be removed from the game in patch 5.2. Use it or lose it! Weapons are always a good choice for upgrades, and failing that, check out where in the new raid your upgrades are likely to come from, and decide what to upgrade based on how soon you’ll get to something useful for your spec.
4. Don’t spend your Lesser Charms!
With patch 5.2, lesser charms of fortune will convert into a new charm – the Mogu Rune of Fate. Elder Charms will still be used for patch 5.0 raids, so the content we’re still in right now – Mogu’shan Vaults, Heart of Fear, Terrace of Endless Spring – but Mogu Runes of Fate will be used for the new ones. Happily, they cost exactly the same as the Elder Charms, but now’s probably a good time to start saving Lesser Charms for the patch.
5. Get your Tillers rep to Exalted!
This will allow you to carry out Work Orders, dedicating half your farm for growing vegetables for other factions. The Tillers are your friends, for real now. You’ll also be able to buy the farm, but this doesn’t require exalted rep, only that you have all plots unlocked. While you’re at it, don’t level your Blacksmithing. There’s a catch-up coming, just like the one for Cooking!
That’s all from us, but what are you doing to prepare for patch 5.2′s release? I’m continuing not to do dailies. Although, I have planted some scallions.
