PlanetSide 2 Beta Starts Today

This time, for certain.

SOE President John Smedley Tweeted over the weekend that the PlanetSide 2 beta would kick off “Monday at 2pm,” referring to Aug. 6, which is today — but only if you’re reading this today. Well, you know what I mean.

That time is in Pacific, so it’ll be 5:00 for you east-coasters, late in the evening for our friends in Europe, and uncomfortably early for folks in Australia.

Two weeks ago, Smedley predicted that the beta would start last “Monday or Tuesday, barring any unforeseen circumstances.” Such circumstances obviously transpired, but Smedley said last Friday in a session on Reddit that, on a scale of one to 10, his certainty that today’s beta would go off was about 9.99999.

You can still sign up for a beta key on the PS2 site, and SOE’s been giving plenty away via the game’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

So, will you be joining the battle for Auraxis this afternoon? If so, we look forward to fragging — er, seeing, you!

I suspect Planetside 2 will be releasing in November or December, as that seems to be the release window for most winter games. Plus, it would give the developers more than enough time to polish everything before going public, though of course they’ve already shown it off at E3 and in TotalBiscuit videos.

According to j_smedley, Active subs first, then veterans, then twitter/facebook/gamepro keys, then normal beta signups. He said the veterans and priority keys could be 2-3 WEEKs out unfortunately.

yes, please, we love streaming. Streaming is the future! How many people out there stream on a daily basis? I’ve streamed three times today. Streaming the stream, stream stream stream. Funny word.

This is the type of Gameplay coverage that speaks the loudest to me,
and will most effect My choice of whether to invest My time in a game or not.

  They let total biscuit to stream some times in the Alpha so… But you need special permission from SOE to do it.
  
  PS: The beta invites now have only gone out to PS1 vets and those that still sub to PS1. The rest of us have to wait a few weeks more
