PlanetSide 2 Update To Include VR Training and Account Level Unlocks
A forum post by Creative Director Matt Higby revealed notes for the upcoming PlanetSide 2 update. GU04 is the fourth big update for the free-to-play multiplayer first person shooter from Sony Online Entertainment. The update is set to come out tomorrow, barring any complications in testing, with a patch next week to fix any bugs.
Perhaps the most exciting news about the update is the Account Level Unlocks. Items you have purchased, common pool items and Empire specific weapons will be available to all characters of the required faction that are eligible to use them. SEO is “working on a solution for those of you who have purchased the same item on multiple characters.”
The Flash ATV will now have a cloaking device and a brand new renegade shotgun. It will also be equipped with a “rumble seat” so players can bring a passenger with them.
After the PlanetSide 2 update, players will be able to utilize VR training, “where you can try each weapon and vehicle in the game with no resource cost or cooldown timers.” There will be a target practice area as well as a driving/flying area to practice with vehicles. There are also areas to “practice team tactics, such as towers and small outposts.”
Developers have combined the respawn screen and map screen into one for better use of space. They have also taken into account what players have been asking for and have included friendly troop locations, but you will have to wait a bit for that one as it won’t go live with GU04.
SEO has also enhanced passive certifications for members and scaled the increase of cert points based on how long a player has been a member.
There are three Empire specific Rocket Launchers that are coming with the PlanetSide 2 update. VS-Lancer is an “Anti-vehicle energy weapon with a unique charge mechanic.” The TR-Striker “Launches a series of mid-damage guided missiles at a single target”. The NC-Phoenix is a “high-damage, slow firing camera guided missile which must be guided by the Phoenix’s user.” It’s important to note that the new rocket launchers won’t go out until next week.
Players have been waiting a while for a PlanetSide 2 update and it’s nice to see SEO adjusting the game based on user-suggestions as well as streamlining the UI. Unlocking account-wide items for things that players have spent money on just makes sense and will likely be a tipping point for some to start spending a bit more.
