ArenaNet‘s upcoming MMO Guild Wars 2 might not have a monthly subscription attached to it, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t finding other creative ways to capitalize… I mean monetize on the popular IP!

If your voice is still hurting from singing praises for the upcoming game, why not let your shirt do the talking as you become a walking billboard for ArenaNet with Guild War 2 T-Shirts?!

That’s right, soon all the Guild Wars 2 merchandise will be made available to the general public.  But what’s more exciting is that you can actually have a say in what shirts will be getting made! You can find a gallery of all the possible choices on the Guild Wars 2 Facebook page and pick and vote for your three favorites.

The poll will end today at 3:00p.m. EDT (12:00p.m. PDT for all you GAMEBREAKER timezone fans), though, so stop wasting time and go voice your opinion before it’s too late!

Wow… usually promo merchandise is embarrassing to wear in public – but I’d totally rock that grey dragon shirt. That’s pretty awesome.

  • 7BitBrian

I like all of the white ones myself, but they seem to be the least popular amongst my social network :(

  • http://twitter.com/nemui_89 Nemui

damn you, arenanet for making it facebook-exclusive.. how about letting everyone vote who’s got an actual game account ? D:

    • Old Ben

Why should they care if people have a game account? As long as they’re willing to pay for the shirts, their opinion matters.

I do agree they need to stop using Facebook as their official channel, though. Using it as their public interface is the kind of thing a mom & pop business would do. A company like Arena Net needs to post its updates and polls on its own website.

By all means have a Facebook page (if only to absorb the comments posted by Facebook dwellers), but use it to link to your official site, not the other way around.

More people will see it on Facebook than on their official ANet GW2 page, don’t be ridiculous.
There’s something like 550k people following GW2 on facebook that see the updates every day. Nowhere near as many people would log on to check the GW2 official site every day.

        • Old Ben

          > More people will see it on Facebook than on their
          > official ANet GW2 page, don’t be ridiculous.

Did you read my post before replying? Namely the part where I say they should “use the Facebook page to link to their official site”, like most big companies do…?

          > There’s something like 550k people following GW2 on facebook

There are over 1 million people registered in the GW2 mailing list (that’s how they receive warnings about BWEs, stress tests, release dates, etc.). In fact, they hit 1 million before the first BWE, so now it’s probably closer to 2 million.

And I’m sure there are also millions of people following GW2 news on Reddit and dozens of other websites (including GBTV). That doesn’t mean Arena Net should treat those as their _official_ channel.

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/RKVM5R23BTCLIYD7CJ3WZUXQTA jones

no shawna made her point. there are over a million people registered on their mailing list but 1 million people would not avidly check their email for it, why give a link to the officicial site when you can just vote then and there then continue with ur business. complaining that its not on their actual site is like complaining its not on Facebook. it is somewhere, if you cared enough to want a shirt then just go make a bogus facebook account if you are opposed to the idea of FB vote and move on. instead of complaining just for complaining sake

          • Old Ben

            > why give a link to the officicial site

For the same reason that official e-mails from Microsoft end in “microsoft.com” and not “gmail.com”.

            > complaining that its not on their actual
            > site is like complaining its not on Facebook

No, it’s exactly the opposite, as I think anyone with the ability to read can understand.

  • 7BitBrian

Is it wrong that I actually want all of them? I like how they all look….

  • Johan Andersson

    Facebook-account needed for voting…
Why is everything on stasibook now adays? I don’t wanna get any account there. Why not vote on their official page with our GW2-account?

  • DoctorOverlord

I have to agree with the other posts expressing irritation how ArenaNet gives such attention to their Facebook followers.

I know they like getting involved in the social media thing but I don’t see why they couldn’t make the announcement on Facebook then make the voting on their official site as others have suggested.

If you have Facebook you have Internet access but just because you have Internet access doesn’t mean you bother with Facebook.I ended up setting up an account to take part in these things and it was every bit as irritating as I anticipated it would be and I never use it for anything else.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/RKVM5R23BTCLIYD7CJ3WZUXQTA jones

if you dont want to bother with fb then you dont want to bother with voting. no one is making you do it. quit crying

      • DoctorOverlord

And how exactly does signing up for Facebook have anything to do with an MMO?     I want to vote for the products and that has NOTHING to do with any self-absorbed social media site.     Sorry if the logic being expressed by myself and others here is a little to rational for you to follow.

  • just_izumi

I hope they make some for girls and not just guys because I’m so getting some of them. They look pretty nice. :D

    • just_izumi

*Facepalm* For those whining about facebook exclusive… Go make a facebook… IT’S FREE! No one says you have to use it after that if you don’t want to.

      • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Don’t give in to the man.   If you don’t want to give Facebook your personal information, don’t do it.

        • http://twitter.com/just_izumi Izumi

What personal information? Your name? Your Date of Birth? The same things you give to every other website? Its not like they ask for your home address and phone number. Those are optional if you wanted to put them on there to share with your friends.

          • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Its the link to your family thats is most troublesome.  Someone can pretend to be you and request emergency funds from a elderly family member.

            • Your information is being shared with third parties
            • Privacy settings revert to a less safe default mode after each redesign
            • Facebook ads may contain malware
            • Your real friends unknowingly make you vulnerable
            • Scammers are creating fake profile

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/RKVM5R23BTCLIYD7CJ3WZUXQTA jones

            then give fake information..

          • http://twitter.com/just_izumi Izumi

Nobody said you have to connect to your family to participate in an event.

If you don’t want to use it, just give them the basics that they need and only connect to profiles you would like to participate with.

Wheres the proof that your personal info is being shared to anything other than facebook apps or websites that use social media accounts for your login (Both of which are third party, are resricted to what they can access and warn you what they want to access before you accept the linkage to your account)? Which you also don’t have to use.

You don’t have to give facebook anything that you don’t want to give. They don’t require a contact number or home address. The only real thing they require is your name, date of birth, gender, email and facebook account password. You don’t even have to set your location, job, education, profile photo or your sexual preferences either. The level of information you give is always up to you.

My security settings have never reset during any of the facebook changes. You can’t say they do if you “don’t use facebook” because you have to be a user to know.

If you are worried about viruses, protect yourself. Like you should at all times on the internet no matter what website you’re on.

    • http://twitter.com/triggerhippy Grace

Well said. I don’t buy tees sized for guys cause they look huge on me.

  • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

The grey dragon shirt it nice.   Would love to have a black beanie cap with the guild wars dragon on it.

    • Jay

I with you there… Sign me up for both.

  • Diequex

    Hory sheet.

I typically don’t bother with game-inspired clothing…since they honestly look beyond geeky. But that Logan shirt, along with the dragon design? Sexy as hell. gimme’

  • Cyclops07

Regardless of how the game turns out these are some sexy T’s and I’m all in on this

  • ThnagglePuth

OK  .. you may not like the fact that this is a facebook based poll; that’s your privilege, and no one is stuffing it down your throat.  Personally, I got facebook to keep up with family members, old friends, etc, and the fact that GW2 has a facebook page is a bonus (but to be honest, have a few cousins who play the games and I can’t seem to get rid of those notifications, so it a real pain from that standpoint).  However, having said all that, I really appreciate the fact that ArenaNet is willing to listen to their fanbase, which makes it stand out in this age where the ‘my way or the highway’ seems to be the rule.

    • Old Ben

It’s kind of in their own interest, no? They don’t want to order 100k shirts with a design that won’t sell.

  • Noxdus

Facebook exclusive is such a fail.

    • http://twitter.com/triggerhippy Grace

Agreed. I left facebook and no way will I go back to that trashy website tracking stalkerville. I tweeted my vote to them but I doubt they counted it.

edit: I hope they release the shirts in women’s sizes!

  • http://twitter.com/AndyMLC Andrew Caballes

I find the beta boring but damn, that dragon logo tee is very nice. I never bought any game related clothing (come to think of it, anything for that matter) even for games I currently enjoy, so this may be a first for me…as long as it can be sold at a reasonable price in Canada.

    • http://twitter.com/ron6405 mouse

well i never payed never payed extra for being a Canadian lol.  You pay the same amount as USD pricing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/VagrantChrisX Christopher B. Velez

Looks kick ass to me, I’m all over it.

  • http://twitter.com/Luke_Malcolm Luke Malcolm

Heres an honest question: Will people know its Guild Wars 2 or just another Kickass Dragon Shirt ??

    • Jay

That’s what makes it kinda kool… Only people who know, will know.

It’s like having a Porsche 911 GT2. Not many people know the difference…

      • Old Ben

I’m pretty sure one is a car and the other is a shirt.

        • Jay

Not sure if trolling or just….

GT2 looks like a regular 911 to most people, but you can only really appreciate it if you know what it is. A TT RWD beast… Rear Wheel Drive – Twin Turbo if you’re not car savy.

        • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Hmmmm,  what would a GW2 car be like?  Oh, wait GW2 doesnt have mounts.

But wouldnt mine a Waypoint in my house.

          • Old Ben

            > GW2 doesnt have mounts.

What are the siege golems, then?

  • Jado Cast

Yeah, I can see it now, some folks will see the dragon and say, “cool Dragon Age shirt dude.”  LOL

  • http://www.facebook.com/RyuOmega Jeremiah Larnerd

it says guild wars on the back

  • http://twitter.com/triggerhippy Grace

I think it’s pretty obvious that kids don’t understand the concept of protecting your privacy and aren’t aware of how employers hire investigators to scour facebook profiles.

If they want to use facebook that’s good for them but ArenaNet should pay attention to those of us who won’t because a large percentage of their customers aren’t kids.
