Complete Guild Wars 2 Guide To The Shatterer World Boss

Ever since the Shatterer was revealed at Gamescom 2010, Guild Wars 2 fans have been eager to shoot it with arrows and stick it with pointy things. The colossal crystalline dragon dwarfs the in-game characters and it’s mind-blowing to consider that it’s not even one of the elder dragons. The Shatterer isn’t even a specific dragon, it’s a rank given to a champion of the Elder Crystal Dragon, Kralkatorrik, and just like the Highlander: there can be only one (at a time).

The Shatterer is a world boss who spawns as part of the meta-event chain called Kralkatorrik’s Legacy. The events take place in the northwest corner of the Blazeridge Steppes, which is a level 40-50 zone, and can be triggered on a 3-hour cycle. Successfully defeating the Shatterer grants players access to the Dragon Chest in addition to the normal rewards for completing events. Claw of Jormag the Ice Dragon in the lvl 70-80 area was fun to fight, also. I ran into him while exploring the area, saw a big shadow flying above me and that’s when the fight started. It was a pretty epic battle as the dragon actually flies around clinging onto mountains before landing on the designated area. Whoever thought of the design for these dragons, including the Shatterer, nailed it.

The Shatterer was visually appealing, but he was such a faceroll of a boss. Thanks for the background Richie, I had killed the boss twice, but had no idea why he was there.

  The fight is dramatically different if you fight him when there aren’t many people around. When it’s crowded, he just sort of melts and there’s not strategy at all. I’ve beaten him with only 8-9 people and it’s a 20 minute affair and very challenging. The adds begin to overwhelm you, when there isn’t much assistance.

    And we start to see the problem with the DEs right here. First there was the lack of permanence, which should have come as no shock to anybody (even though it did), and now we see that while on paper they seem like a good idea, but will ultimately end up being zergfests or impossible to complete.
