TERA Players Experience Billing Issues

There have been a few snafus with TERA‘s billing system this week.

According to fans on the forums, people have either been charged prematurely for their subscription or have been unable to log in to the game at all.

Those unable to log in consisted of around 2000 people receiving a notice telling them that their subscription was not found or had expired. En Masse has been working on the problem and notes that the two issues are not connected and that they are working to resolve them.

In regard to the fans that were charged before their free 30 days were up, EME attributed the problem to players who purchased a physical copy and signed up for a subscription before entering the game code.

That said, there have been reports of players with digital copies having the same issue.

Have you had any problems?

**UPDATE**

According to a tweet by EME the issues have been resolved.

There are other issues too.  For example, I want to change my one month sub to a 6 month sub but you can’t do that either.  At the moment you can’t change your subscription but they say its coming by end of month.

”It’s coming!” should be the developer’s tag line. It sure seems to pop up often, concerning the NA release at least.

Why is it pretty much all the Gamebreaker Tera coverage is to report on something negative? All the times Tera gets a big headline it has been related to the lawsuit, account issues, etc. Contrast this to GW2 where there’s a new hype headline every day, and all the problems in the beta weekend were minimized as much as possible by GBTV staff.

How about reporting on the generally positive vibe surrounding Tera at the moment and all the people enjoying themselves despite the game not being on their radar till a week ago? If you only follow sites like GBTV, you might get the impression that the game is constantly plagued by various issues. On the contrary, it’s the smoothest MMO launch I’ve been through thus far, and I’ve been through at least a dozen. I guess there are people having some account issues, but its an incredibly small % because on the few forums I frequent, I hadn’t even seen it brought up, and that’s out of hundreds of players that play the game. The headline makes it seem like it’s some huge issue affecting most Tera players when it can’t possibly be affecting more than a few % of player or less, otherwise it would have been brought up by people that *actually play the game* on forums.

    • Lycronis

Generally positive vibe? From where? No other gaming sites seem to even care that the game is even out or it just gets mentioned in passing, and only a tiny handful of people in various forums are talking about it.

And to be honest, it SHOULD have been a smooth launch, considering the damn game has been out in Korea for over a year. Regardless, for those that are playing it, I hope the game continues to be fun for you and that you shouldn’t be worrying about what others are saying about the game. Just go play it and have fun.

      TERA Players Experience Billing Issues”

Can you show me, in the sentence, where the word denoting quantity is? Regardless of how you want to interpret it, @Teraonline:twitter was blowing up with updates regarding the status, and people on the forums were also in a fuss over it. Sounds like news to me, sorry you can’t accept that sometimes MMO launches aren’t always smooth (as we stated multiple times in the video).

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/LLanowar-Elf/100003731135688 LLanowar Elf

        Mikeb:

the headline is “thousands of Tera players…”
sure it’s technically true (2000) but it’s misleading since this is not a common issue. The way the headline is presented makes it seem like this is some massive issue, when it’s just a minor hiccup affecting a small % of people. The actual video itself was very balanced, it’s just the headline itself and the fact that generally every single story has been negative. You’re actually the only gamebreaker commentator who isn’t incredibly biased against Tera so my comment wasn’t really directed at you anyway.

        Lyconis:

I meant a generally positive vibe from people who have actually tried the game. There’s certainly some apathy out there, but it’s mostly from people who just refuse to give it a chance because they have some misplaced loyalty towards ANet and GW2. It’s ok to like more than one MMO (I’m looking forward to GW2 too) but people are stuck in the caveman mindset of forming tribes around MMOs and getting their ego involved. The fact that not many gaming sites are covering it is what is annoying, because it’s obviously a huge launch that matters to a lot of people (#1 selling game on Amazon right now) but none of the major game media sites are really covering it. It’s like it’s blacklisted because it’s a port from Korea or something.

Anyway, just to give an example of generally positive feedback from a place you wouldn’t normally expect it, go check the FoH forum. Generally much more cynical, negative views towards MMOs but the vibe in the Tera thread is very positive and all sorts of people are picking it up and enjoying it who never thought they would. The general consensus there is “first MMO since WoW that actually grabs me.”  Then you have all sorts of positive reactions from more mainstream figures like Gabe from Penny Arcade who tweeted that he prefers Tera to GW2, the guy behind the ctrl-alt-del web comics, Kotaku, etc. Or for a positive story for once, how about putting up a headline highlighting how Tera is the #1 fastest seller in PC games right now on Amazon?

        • iamthemikeb

I’ve learned that not everyone is going to like it, and that’s fine. I still think that the game is great (after 20), and will do fine for the next several months and hopefully a year+ (not many MMOs have gone ‘strong’ for more than a year it seems).

I am actually kind of happy that GB is composed of people not afraid to open their mouths and voice their own opinions about games and that we aren’t some collective, one note website. I think GW2 just happens to be the one game where the majority of us feel quite satisfied with it.. I think it’s great too, but just wish it had actual GUILD WARS because I’m an insatiable pvp nerd.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/LLanowar-Elf/100003731135688 LLanowar Elf

Voicing actual opinions on games is a good thing, yes, but only to a point. People follow game journalists to get balanced, informed opinions. If we wanted to hear the opinions of fanboys and trolls we’d check some forums. A Tera fanboy, for example, might have the opinion that Tera is the best MMO ever and GW2 is a piece of trash. While that might be many a Tera fanboys’ true opinion, but it doesn’t make it any less stupid. I would never thank someone for being brave enough to open their mouth to voice that opinion, in fact I’d request that they stop talking or try not to be so close minded. GW2 is a solid game, so is Tera: there’s no need to pit them against each other.

This whole “my MMO can beat up your MMO” disease in the MMO community is something I expect to find in forums, but not in game journalism. This is all I’m trying to get at: it seems like some of the GB staff have a little too much emotional investment in GW2′s success which is leading to fanboyish coverage of games like Tera. I’m not saying that they’re bribed into trashing the game or are “in bed” with NCSoft, just that they’re gamers who really like a game and have succumbed to the all-too-common trap of automatic negativity towards other games in the same genre. So if you’re going to cover it at all, please at least cover some of the positive things too (of which there are many). You’re more than welcome to qualify it with “most of the GB staff think it’s Terable” I would just love to see coverage that’s not completely negative. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my earlier comments.

          • Mustavaris

GBTV has two types of content. News and opinion. I think people are confusing the news articles with the opinion articles/shows

GBTV’s agenda when reporting news should be to be factually accurate, and I think they achieve this.

Their agenda when giving opinion pieces should be to give their honest, well-researched opinion. I also think they achieve this.

Sometimes the lines are blurred. In shows like Guildcast they are usually reporting news, and then giving their opinion about it. It seems that often people take the opinions given as biased reporting, and get angry.

It is not incumbent upon the site to have a unanimous opinion about a game, or even a range of opinions. If it so happens that most staffers like GW2, chances are it’s a good game. If most staffers don’t like a game, then chances are either it’s not very good, or most of them are different gamers to you.I think the best thing is to figure out which opinion writer (or presenter) you tend to agree with, and then use their opinion as a starting point. For example, if you like PVP, try out anything Mike B says is good.I’m not sure why people get so angry about any of this. Visiting this website is not compulsory. If you don’t like the coverage this site offers then find a different site that you prefer. Personally, I will continue to follow this one, as it works for me.

          • Brozathon

            dude go and look

          • Brozathon

dude go and look at any guild cast episodes. All i do is laugh while im watching them while shaking my head at how naive and oblivious they are to how good that game really is, especially Gary. Elizabeth can actually see straight, Scott is just as blinded as Gary but a bit more realistic about it, and the other guy i dont know where his head really is but tbh i dont think he believes the game is as amazing as Gary and Scott think it is (GW2).

Gary treats GW2 like his new girlfriend of maybe 3 months that he keeps hearing rumors about from his friends saying shes having sex or going out with someone else; although hes processing what his friends are telling him, he decides to blindly follow behind the lies/excuses she constantly dishes him.

If theres anything negative brought up about GW2 by anyone in the guild cast he will try and shed a positive light on it EVERYTIME as if its not a problem at all its actually an ïnnovative feature”of GW2.

He shamelessly bashes TERA in the most inappropriate times for no reaason. If TERA is so irrelavent and inferior to all other MMOs then it shouldnt even be coming out of his mouth or on his mind.

Sure its great that you all love to freely express your opinions for us about these games but just leave it alone please. Uve done TERA way too much dirt theres not even any point for u guys to do any stories on it anymore if its that bad of a game, and that uninteresting that the only news you could conjure up since its release is this minor situation that I, a huge TERA fan, had no clue about when i am super active on forums and in game.

Personally I’m glad i didnt know about this website b4 i played TERA. I JUST found out about this game about 2 weeks ago i think whenever they had their open BETA. saw someone streaming it, never heard of it before, and just decided to download and play. I went in blind and fell in love without predetermined notions from a website that makes a separate section for a game of which they dont even know the release date.

Go ahead, like your game, but dont be afraid to truly address its flaws or inferiority in certain aspects just like you arent afraid to repeatedly do with TERA.

  • H S

Is this why tera had less players on xfire than GW1? Nah, maybe its the 11 servers? LOL, yeah ground breaking game.

I am glad Tera exists, every ganker, griefer, and anti social personality can gather, leaving the rest of us alone to have fun. Go Tera!

    • Sharuko

Are you remotely serious? You don’t think this billing problem is big enough to be reported? You may have launched fine but obviously others haven’t, gtfo

    • iamthemikeb

We reported what actually happened, and praised the game for not failing out the door like most MMOs do. Your comment is so misplaced and asinine that I’m not even certain how to respond to it.

      • MMO_Doubter

Even though I agree, this reply is inappropriate.

You work here, Mike. Be a professional. Rise above it.

          No inappropriate at all.

    • Lycronis

What in the hell did Arenanet and GW2 have to do with this story? The GBTV staff are just reporting issues with the game, as they have in the past with other games. You throwing the “a-hole” word around is kind of funny because that is just how I perceived your post. ;)

    • http://quintlyn.com/ QuintLyn Bowers

I really don’t feel that what I said about Tera was bad at all… In fact, I did say that it’s expected for a game to have problems a launch because it’s practically impossible to account for every little thing that can go wrong when you’re including thousands to hundreds of thousands of people in the mix.

I even stated that The Secret World, which is the game I’m most looking forward to and should therefore be completely starry eyed and biased about had similar issues when they launched pre-orders.

I’m not writing “bad news” about Tera.  I just simply wrote a post about something that happened and affect what En Masse admits is several thousand people.

      • http://www.kaiketsu.enjin.com/ Corey Jenkins

its all good Q don’t let the trolls get to you my friend. news is news

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/LLanowar-Elf/100003731135688 LLanowar Elf

No, the content of the video itself was fine. I think Tera players are just clearly starting to tire over the fact that when you do give the game screen time, it’s to cover something negative (the lawsuit, the EU blood slider kerfuffle, etc.) The headlines aren’t all negative, I admit. The problem is that even when you’re not covering something negative, the commentary is kind of snarky and dismissive towards the game. I just wish gbtv would take the extra few hours to play a character to level 20+ (as even your own MikeB suggests) so Tera fans don’t have to endure the biased coverage. Even if the game isn’t for you, I think you would gain a much better appreciation for the game overall and why people get annoyed when it’s portrayed as just another Korean MMO by gbtv staff.

        • http://quintlyn.com/ QuintLyn Bowers

It’s portrayed as just another Korean MMO by some of Gamebreaker because that’s how those particular people feel about it.  I don’t believe I have portrayed it that way yet.

Yes.. I have covered the blood slider thing… which to me had less to do with the game than the company… I remember stating that in general I felt bad for Tera players for what Frogster is doing to them.   That has NOTHING to do with the quality of the game.  If anyone thinks it does, they may need to reconsider.

As for this… Again… Nothing to do with the quality of the game. It’s not even a negative piece.  It’s literally “Oh.. So this happened.”  It’s something people may want to know about since it can affect them.

As for playing to level 20.  People seem to think this is the answer every time.  But let me put it this way.  I appreciate the work put into the game.  I appreciate the fact that some people like the game and others do not.

But I am not about to force myself to play through 20 levels of a game that just doesn’t click with me and I don’t expect anyone else to either.

And if I’m working with people at Gamebreaker, I expect them to be honest about how they feel about a game.

If people think this is the first game that Gamebreaker staff have been negative about they’re wrong.

Everyone wants to call out GW2 and say how we’re all fanboy/girls over it. When Gary and other members of the staff first heard how GW2 was supposed to work, many of our staff were skeptical and critical of the entire idea.

The game changed their minds.  (I, personally, have no interest in GW2 past the novelty of playing a lettuce person.  Take that as you will.)

TERA simply did not change Gary or some other members of the staff’s minds.  And that’s fine.

The fact is… Some people just don’t like some games. And at Gamebreaker, it’s okay for us to say that.  And sometimes we happen to agree on a game to a majority.

Personally…. I’m indifferent to both GW2 and Tera.  I hope that the people who do enjoy them will get to enjoy them for a very long time.  But that’s not going to stop me from reporting something when it happens.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/LLanowar-Elf/100003731135688 LLanowar Elf

Again, it’s not this specific article it’s the cumulative effect of many such articles and the lack of less negative coverage. As for the whole 20+ thing, there’s a very specific reason for why people say that. You don’t actually fight any real BAMs until that level and that’s the most impressive/unique part of Tera, where it finally makes sense that it really is “true action combat.” It’s one thing if people were throwing out all sorts of numbers, but people are pointing to a very specific part of the game at which you will know whether or not you like it.

The thing about Tera is that 1-20 is essentially the tutorial. They wanted to make sure they didn’t scare off players used to traditional combat so there’s nothing intimidating or challenging in the first 20 levels. I think this was a mistake, but it’s obvious that En Masse decided it was best to wait till players are more used to the combat and their class before throwing BAMs at them. No one is trying to force you to do anything, it’s just a shame if you miss out on this game due to the underwhelming first 20 levels. It’s not like getting to 20 takes a long time, it’s 2 days of casual play and 1 day if you have 6-8 hours to burn.

There is just such an overwhelming consensus among people that have tried and liked Tera that level 20 is where the game starts to shine. I mean, if so many gamers have said that they were underwhelmed until they hit 20+ but now think it’s awesome, what makes you so sure you won’t too? I would think that gamers passionate about MMOs would be more than willing to put up with average (but not terrible) gameplay for a day if there was a good chance it turns into an amazing game after that. Ultimately though, you have preconceptions that make you much less likely to give it a shot. Be honest with yourself, if GW2 didn’t immediately grab you, would you have given up after a couple hours? I sure wouldn’t, any game that has such promise and innovation like GW2 is worth taking the time to make sure it won’t grow on you.

          • http://quintlyn.com/ QuintLyn Bowers

Honestly.. I haven’t even played GW2. I wasn’t in any of the betas and I have not bought it to be in it.  And honestly.. Yes.. If it takes more than a couple of levels for me to get into it, I probably won’t bother with it.

As I said… My interest in the game is already pretty small. I have considered it only because it’s B2P and will allow me to play with some of my friends.

But if you want a real example. I’ve played WoW to lvl 7 while I logged a lot of time in EVE when I was playing it.  That’s about the amount of time I’ll give a game, because there are other games that I am interested in.

  • http://twitter.com/Nathiest Nathiest

Saw it at Target today… It’s funny how actually holding the game box in hand makes a game that much more appealing.  Did not buy it. I’ll wait till the retail price drops down to $9.99.  By then I hope they integrate an ability to lock on target.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/LLanowar-Elf/100003731135688 LLanowar Elf

They are never going to integrate the ability to “lock-on target” (tab target) because that would defeat the entire purpose of the combat. There are skills that can lock-on by “painting” the target with your cursor, but the vast majority you have to aim and that’s a large part of what makes the combat more engaging and skillful. The “animation lock” I’ve seen bemoaned by GBTV commentators is, believe it or not, also a huge part of what makes the combat strategic and engaging. Tab-targeting would absolutely ruin that even if it was optional because in PvP and even PvE players are going to go with what gives them the best chance of winning, not what’s more fun.

If you don’t like the idea of action combat, then this game will never be for you. GW2 is more akin to what you’re looking for, since it has the option of either tab-targeting or aiming. GW2 also has a much more innovative PvE advancement system and has structured PvP whereas BGs aren’t coming to Tera till ~summer. Personally I plan on playing both because they each have things that appeal to me: GW2 has the structured PvP and dynamic events and Tera has the combat that can make even the dullest of tasks fun. Tera is also more a traditional MMO in terms of the focus on gear progression at end-game, whereas GW2 has much more emphasis on balanced, structured PvP.

    • Spammerbam

I agree with everything except the last sentence. Integrating a lock-on-target will defeat the purpose of the action-combat system.

  • H S

All the raiders and pvp gankers will flock to this game, all 100k of them. Good riddance. All the social misfits in one spot. Amen!

Couldn’t see this one happening? Glad I didn’t listen to some friends trying to get me to buy this game. Then I saw the forums and the chat in-game and it’s just a trash-fest. Nevermind getting prematured billed and having to deal with all sorts of harassment inside the game for just playing some class ontop of it. Some vicious little nerds in this game and the companies just ripping ya off like newborns on crack.
