Amazon Holds 12 Day Sale Featuring TERA

If you’ve been wanting to play TERA but haven’t wanted to drop sixty bucks on it, Amazon has your back.

TERA is one of five games being offered at 50% off during Amazon’s digital “MAYhem” sale.  The sale started on the 17th and will run through the 26th with specific games being offered on different days.

Don’t worry, TERA is being offered twice, so those of you who missed it on the 19th can grab it on the 26th.

While it does seem a bit early to be running a sale on TERA, it is digital only.  So this does not seem to be a case of clearing out unwanted inventory.

However, it does seem to be a chance for Amazon to kick off a new type of reward system for customers who bought the game through them.  Those buying the game during this sale will receive a special  “Olive Bandit Mask” face customization item.

At the same time, anyone who has already purchased the game through Amazon will have a code placed in their Games and Software Library automatically.

This is something that Amazon intends to continue to do.  So anyone that has already bought the game or buys it now will be eligible to receive any special items that become available in the future.

Will this tempt you to pick up TERA?

Well, thats my experience too tbh
Played the betas in europe, and the “original” korean Tera some time after release.

The most disappointing thing is: The only difference about the korean and the NA, european Version is that they made TERA even easier. So much to “westernization”

        • ChristopherMitchell1

Actually the European version was overhauled but the NA version wasn’t changed too much except for quests and Elin remodel.

  • David Alcon

I wanted to try this title simply to experience the combat, but have no intention to continue past the free trial. I was hoping to try it out for ~$20 though.

  • http://twitter.com/kiwicozy Cozette Napoles

Definitely going to jump into the game with this sale! :)

    • Sharuko

Good move, you will be playing the best MMO of 2012.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Willi-Enderle/1668850948 Willi Enderle

         a matter of opinion

      • Lycronis

Sure, right up until GW2 and/or The Secret World launches, both of which are better in their current beta states than TERA is live.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Luison/646235567 Anthony Luison

Lycronis that is a pretty bold statement, especially with TSW, which seems to be mediocre, especially with regards to combat and animation quality.

          • Lycronis

Is it though? Seriously, the ONLY thing Tera has going for it is the action combat (and that can only carry it so far) but the game as a whole is pretty stale and extremely generic. GW2 is a much better game (my opinion), will sell far more (in fact, I’d feel confident is saying that it probably sold more already, even without a release date.) and it is without a doubt the most anticipated MMO due this year, by far. As for The Secret World, yes I can agree that it is a bit rough in places, but what it has going for it is the setting, the different take on skills, classes, etc. and the numerous other things it’s offering that are not the same old boring crap (hence TERA.)

          • ChristopherMitchell1

No game is as good as we hope when it launches, sad fact. Discussing games that haven’t launched yet is silly because we will not know how their launch goes…wait for it…. till they launch. Agree on GW2 but TSW offers nothing new except their setting. As far as skills and classes go it really isn’t anything new. It’s just the same thing wrapped differently which makes me disappointed not to mention the whole ‘rape our consumer’s wallets’ mentality they have will not be seeing many people try this game opposed to other, smaller barrier to enter games.

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/Z36GPOU3Q2QIQYBIDVNQAVGNGE Raul

”As far as skills and classes go it really isn’t anything new”
You really haven’t done Your homework.
or You are an Elite level Troll Boss.

or even examined the non-levelling system, or explored the story beyond the starting areas in TSW.

I’m starting to think You and Sharuko are the same person, or are so equally blinded to facts that You might as well be.

          • ChristopherMitchell1

um… did my homework… found nothing new >.> non leveling system has been done before and it’s still the same system just no numbers involved. Which I can see why you are excited since you probably can’t do math but seeing as how you still gain experience and when you get enough experience at a certain point you gain rewards… AKA lvling system without numbers… Also even if the story is ‘original’ (which no story is anymore and seeing how this one is based off of real world stories I doubt it will be ‘revolutionary’) it won’t be seen by many since the company enjoys making poor business practices. It could be a great game but a company who makes bad decisions screws the game over.

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/Z36GPOU3Q2QIQYBIDVNQAVGNGE Raul

            “You probably can’t do Math”

            cool story bro :D

      • http://www.facebook.com/fimbulvetrr Dovah Kiin

Another problem with the game, idiot fanboys flock to it like flies to a piss pot.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Luison/646235567 Anthony Luison

Yeah, that doesn’t happen with every game right, should I post something negative on a GW2 article? I’d probably get banned and have someone at my front door the next day threatening to kill me.

          • http://www.facebook.com/fimbulvetrr Dovah Kiin

It always goes back to gw2 for tera fanboys. Who said anythign about it? You’ve just proved me right, good job.

          • Sharuko

It goes back to the GW2 fanboy’s because they are the only ones who viciously attack any game that is not GW2.  A good example is yourself.

          • http://www.facebook.com/fimbulvetrr Dovah Kiin

Only ones? Dont make me laugh. Who was attacking your precious game? Im just pointing out flaws in your ridiculous fanboy logic. Or at least Anthony s.

          • Sharuko

You might have missed the first comments on this video.  Oh that’s right, you didn’t because you actually “liked” those comments. Shocking.

And yes they are the vast majority of haters, easily.

          • http://www.facebook.com/fimbulvetrr Dovah Kiin

            What are you talking about?
They said the game was a boring grind, which i agreed with. not that any other game was better. Get over yourself, like everyone seems to have gotten over your game. Your avatar is a Tera Charcater, you are the very definition of a fanboy. shoo.

          • Sharuko

What are you talking about?  You said who was attacking the game, and I gave you a response. Calm down bro.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Luison/646235567 Anthony Luison

Honestly, not even defending TERA here, GW2 has the most obnoxious set of fanboys imaginable.

I can find comments on videos for WoW, TERA, Rift, you name it with just  ”Gw2 ftw” as top comment.

Forum signatures stating “GW2 is the best MMO” or “GW2 is the last salvation for MMO gamers”

I mean it goes on and on, not just against TERA, but every game.

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/Z36GPOU3Q2QIQYBIDVNQAVGNGE Raul

after close to 7 years of wow (my own damn fault)
I can tell You I’m not holding My breath for GW2.

-But it least it has a story and lore that doesn’t seem like it was written by an 11 year old with no interest in story.

The story/lore I’ve seen in Tera is painfully embarrassing to have to endure.

not going to pay a sub fee to painfully endure anything.

            In My honest opinion,
Story = Purpose, and a game without that kind of a purpose = grind

And grinding is what a good deal of Korean-conceived games are all about.
            (so Far)

          • Sharuko

I play games to “play” games.  If I want “story” I go read a book or watch a movie.  ”Story” worked really well for SWTOR didn’t it.

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/Z36GPOU3Q2QIQYBIDVNQAVGNGE Raul

That tells us alot about You,
            Sharuko.

-Come on, You know damn well that story is not what is killing swtor.

There is an ocean of difference between passively consuming a movie or a book, and being Part of the story in a good mmo.

The Teachers at UCLA and AET must be wrong when they pounded “Story is King”
            into our skulls.

at  Sony Pictures Imageworks, they actually fire people for not paying attention to the story behind the projects they work on.

I don’t pay to play subscription games for painfully embarrassing shortcomings..

Quality matters to some of us, and I’m glad you chose not to argue the quality of Tera’s “story”

You might want to read the power of myth, by Joseph Campbell.

coked out writers on the scifi channel FTL.

        • Sharuko

          Agreed.

        • ChristopherMitchell1

Your comment is quite uncalled for, yes Tera is not going to be the best MMO of 2012 but that doesn’t mean you have a right to attack a person/community over someone who is hoping it will be. Learn to be a respectful individual and maybe one day people will respect you.

p.s. flies don’t ‘flock’ nor do they like piss.

        • H S

the Tera community is one of the most immature ive seen yet, and that’s quite an accomplishment considering all the bad communities there have been. Just look at this troll, that should tell you something right there.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/Z36GPOU3Q2QIQYBIDVNQAVGNGE Raul

“Will this tempt you to pick up TERA?”

    no

  • Lash76

Sure it might be a grind, but the way the combat works i for one don’t mind it so much. I was NOT going to try this “crappy” game, but since SWTOR do not do so much for me anymore i bought it to try a month, and I’m having a blast tbh. Im playing a Slayer and to be able to destroy giggling stupid monsters kinda gives me a rush hehe. As for the community, i its pretty mmo-like  ; random. And again i never thought i would play this game, not a fan of Asian-ports, but hey here i am Oo

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Luison/646235567 Anthony Luison

Slayer gets pretty awesome at higher levels, just give it some time and you’ll go from fighting giggly things on the island of dawn to tearing through giant fire breathing dragons.

      • Lash76

I don’t mind slaughtering giggly things tho ^^ But look forward to later lvls, I’m 25 now and i think the amount of quests and the lvling rate is pretty much perfect for my taste, at least till now =)

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Luison/646235567 Anthony Luison

Glad you are enjoying yourself, I hope you continue to have fun in the game. :D

  • MMO_Doubter

HELL no. Crap is crap. Even if it is free.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Luison/646235567 Anthony Luison

Calling the game itself crap is just offensive to the developers/artists, regardless of your opinion of the gameplay. The work put into the game world is unbelievable.

      • snikendelarveføtter

Can a movie be crap with fantastic scenery? (its a retorical question, so no answer is needed).
Can a game be crap with fantastic scenery? I think you’ll find the answer to be the same as above.

        • ChristopherMitchell1

Well if you want to be ‘analytical’ about it then a movie can have a crappy plot but have fantastic visuals and I would evaluate each aspect individually because that is what you should do when evaluating something. Yes, the movie may be judged as overall crap but if the visuals were worth mentioning I would mention them. If someone asks you for you’re opinion on the game saying it’s crap is fine but if someone asks you to review the game you have to comment on each aspect and not just say… its crap.

          • snikendelarveføtter

            Did he review the game?

          • ChristopherMitchell1

Irrelevant, I was commenting on your comment alone. If you think what I said is wrong comment on that and don’t drag other people’s irrelevant posts into it.

          • snikendelarveføtter

You are really making alot of sense now.

          • ChristopherMitchell1

I know right? maybe you should give it a try :D

      • jayremy

Have to agree, still though I think the weight of what the NE or EU community thinks is drowned out when the source is Korean. Things lost in translation, or just will never get addressed, where a more local company can be spot on about.

No need to call a game crap because you don’t like it, it is sub par for what I expected but far from a bad game. I again about Korea, this game is pretty much a translated over game, we a getting the second rate experience and a vastly differing culture of design.

    • Spammerbam

Wait, what? After bashing on GW2, and now you’re calling this game crap, too?
Damn, what game(s) DO you play? Seems like you’re just here to troll, hence the name “MMO_Doubter”..

  • BabyChooChoo

There’s something oddly entertaining about this story when it switches back to Gary and you notice 4 big ass screens playing a GW2 trailer…

  • Sharuko

An Amazon rep actually had responded to Massively when similar accusations that GBTV made about Tera’s sale.  Here is what he said which was backed by Massively:

“I’m actually the Marketing Manager for Amazon’s Game Downloads Group (I put these deals together).  I can assure that the deal on TERA is not indicative of how the game is selling. TERA was one of our strongest PC Digital pre-orders and week 1 launches ever and we couldn’t be happier with the performance.

The elasticity on MMOs near launch is just so crazy that we worked with Enmasse to provide this deal to our customers. We had about 2 weeks worth of conversation around whether or not this was a good idea, specifically because there were concerns that customers would have the impression you express here.

To give you some context, we’re moving enough volume in TERA for it to consistently be in our top 5 each week. The game is doing extremely well, we (Amazon) just wanted to give our MMO customers something to get really excited about for the Mayhem event.”

    • http://twitter.com/Mantose Leo P

Whatever you have to do/say , so you can sleep at night :)

I still wouldnt buy tera, its not worth the monthly fee.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Luison/646235567 Anthony Luison

Considering you get a month free with the sale, it’s not much of a big deal to spend $25 to see if you like the game or not.

    • http://quintlyn.com/ QuintLyn Bowers

Funny. I don’t recall making “accusations” about the sale.  We brought up a point many people would. And in fact I distinctly remember saying that it’s possible it had nothing to do with the sales at all since it’s a digital thing but might have more to do with the fact that they’re starting that new promotional thing starting with the bandit mask.

I also recall saying that they weren’t putting hard copies on sale so I didn’t feel it was a case of “OMG, it’s not selling… Let’s dump these.”

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Willi-Enderle/1668850948 Willi Enderle

         thats how he is

        Tera-Fanboy
        GW2-Hater

And he brings that up whenever possible.
Thats why he came up with the (completely unnecessary) comparison to GW2 -.-”

        • jayremy

He is and it may be a bit annoying but so are the illogical arguments made about GW2 by many people as well who bash Tera. Mind you I am not disappointed as much as GW2 as I was Tera but I honestly expected more out of GW2 on the whole gameplay and concept design.

For over a year all I saw were those in game cinematics showing how the combat looked from a fancy camera angle and no UI present, and it felt more realistic and “actiony” but it wasn’t: a more mobile form of WoW gameplay with a “dodge” mechanic which is basically temp immunity. No world PvP, was a minor concern, and just how inconvenienced I felt from not really being able to have a clue of what was going on around me or how to use basic features.

Tera just has a horrible leveling experience outside of BAMs, badly voiced epic cinematics, lame stamina mechanic, a more slow paced and less mobile combat design. The archaic quest design kills  the experience a lot.

I will say this I’d rather spend my time any either of these over WoW, I can’t spend a single second of that game w/o thinking cash cow and dangling carrot chasing.

      • ChristopherMitchell1

Except that these were things that you, Q, had to force Gary to listen to. You were the only informative/intelligent person in this news update on this subject and Gary was blatantly pushing the ‘its on sale, so I’m right when I said it sucked’ propaganda. I don’t even like the game that much but when it comes to Gary talking about Tera I’m done. I hope you guys bring my news with someone who doesn’t obviously hate the game even though he never played it.

Thanks to the ads tho and Gary’s recent attitude problems (not just towards Tera, maybe he needs more sleep >.>) but I already visit this site less than half of what I used to. That should be obvious in the amount of my comments not going up in over a month. I hope you guys get MikeB to bring me my Tera news from now on otherwise I’m just going to ignore any future vids and if I have to start ignoring something I’ll end up ignoring the site in general which I don’t want to do cus I used to like this site.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Luison/646235567 Anthony Luison

Why does Gary always have to be skeptical towards TERA. I know he dislikes the game, but people have different tastes. He also didn’t give the game a fair shot.

    • Sharuko

But Gary has unique tastes too, he prefers games that are considered mediocre and casual.  He was the biggest fan of FFXIV I have ever seen, I used to watch the FFXIV show all the time.  Now he likes TSW and GW2.

People have different tastes, it is ok for him to not like Tera.

      • http://www.facebook.com/fimbulvetrr Dovah Kiin

Wahh wahh, he likes other games, wahh must be casual. If your game is so legendary go play it son. Oh yeah, thats right its only decent at best.

        • Sharuko

Gary calls himself a casual MMO player.  I would say the majority of MMO gamers are casuals including myself.  Why did you take that negatively?

          • http://www.facebook.com/fimbulvetrr Dovah Kiin

Becuse you used TSW and Gw2 in the same sentence as FF14, a game that’s inherently broken, in both mechanics and gamepaly. All mmos are casual by design, including tera, its a redundant statement. The only exceptions i can think of are EVE and Darkfall online.

          • Sharuko

They should be in the same sentence.

          • ChristopherMitchell1

correction: He didn’t use them in the same sentence >.>

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/Z36GPOU3Q2QIQYBIDVNQAVGNGE Raul

Because You tried to sneak in the word “Mediocre”,
            You Damn Dirty Troll,
            lol.

      • jayremy

Though Sharuko has been quite the Tera fanboy amd crazed about hating GW2 at every opportunity. He does make a point here and just here, no sake in arguing just to argue with somebody who you may like to disagree with, because I surprisingly see nothing wrong with what Sharuko is saying here. No strawman arguments this time.

  • http://www.facebook.com/fragosodr David Romera Fragoso

“Will this tempt you to pick up TERA?”

Yes. There are things on TERA that didn’t feel like a good fit for me, so it was hard to justify the money in my case. But for half price I’m willing to give its combat a shot, and who knows, maybe the game will be fun for the first month like SWTOR and I will just unsub after, maybe it will grow on me. Yes I’m excited about GW2 as much as the next person, but by not having a sub it makes as easy(or as hard) to play other MMOs alongside it as keeping any sub for anything right now.
As players shouldn’t we cheer for them both to succeed? Or this became like sports where the loss of a rival brings more joy than your team victory?

  • ChristopherMitchell1

This isn’t a sign of Tera failing yet Gary. This is an Amazon ONLY deal and digital ONLY so it’s not like the ‘game’ itself is on sale just that Amazon is starting it’s own thing. Get MikeB to lvl a character for you to lvl 25 than start playing it before I listen to your attitude towards the game. Of course, I stopped playing it for now just cus I really only had fun with my friends who are all hopped up on D3 juice but your attitude toward a game that you barely played is quite juvenile at best…

  • http://www.facebook.com/toph1980 Christopher Fischer

Attended the Asian beta back in 2010 or something. Combat mechanics and BAMs aside (which are a lot of fun), it was crap back then and is crap now.

I would probably play Terable if it went F2P but it is simply not worth a monthly sub fee.

    • Brozathon

      wow..

    • Sharuko

So you are willing to play “crap” MMOs if they have no monthly subs?  What is the next MMO you plan to play?

      • Spammerbam

Free crap is a lot better than P2P crap.

      • http://www.facebook.com/toph1980 Christopher Fischer

While awaiting GW2? Sure. Beats SWTOR, TSW and all the other crap out there. In case you haven’t figured it out, it’s crappy times for MMOs.
