En Masse Launches Online Store For Tera

Fans of pretty, shiny things rejoice. Because En Masse Entertainment has launched an online store for TERA.  The store is designed to cater to the cosmetic needs of TERA players such as appearance changes and offers what they refer to as “premium services” and “novelty items”.

Premium  services are essentially the standard post-character creation “oops I messed up” vouchers.  They include appearance, gender, race and name change vouchers and vary slightly in price.  Appearance and name change vouchers come in at $10 a pop while gender changes cost $15 and race changes will cost $24.

For those looking for the full package the race change offers not only that but also a change of appearance and gender (barring races that are single gender).

Novelty items are custom weapon skins and consist of “sets” that will change out periodically to give players a variety to chose from.  Only one set will be in the store at at time and then they will be removed for a while to be replaced by a new set.  These will cost $10 each.

I took a peek at the sets they have right now, and have to say the warrior and lancer sets are pretty nice looking.

Just need to change it to free2play and it’s good.

Premium services typical… but the novelty stuff sounds like some f2p game stores. weapon skins and stuff? sounds like stuff that should be available to subscribers in game. Does this necessarily raise the question that they may start slacking on regular gear looks in game to give more incentive to buy novelty skins? I’m not sure… but it doesn’t sound too far off, imo.

It’s a legitimate concern (unlike the “sky is falling, pay-to-win on the way” posts I’ve seen on other forums) but considering the massive variety of weapon/armor in Tera and the extensive remodeling system, I don’t think they could possibly motivate people not already inclined to buy vanity items to buy them regardless of how much they skimped. Unless, of course, they started taking away items already in-game but that’s just silly :P .

Losing out on a few *novelty* skins for each weapon (they don’t look anything like the class weapons, i.e. blunt instead of blade, sword/shield instead of lance, etc.) isn’t really going to affect most people. I want my lance to look like a lancer, my bow to look like a bow, etc. I’d be kinda upset if they started doing this with in-game items. It still takes artist resources away from traditional items I suppose, but they’ve cranked out 10 levels and a whole continent worth of content since release a year ago in Korea. Bluehole is a massive company and a few novelty skins a year is only going to take away meaningless percentage of their overall manpower, in my estimation.

lol change to f2p for wat? they wont be makin enough money from those things to just switch to f2p. Lol and gender change and name change should be available in-game? what kind of game are u two thinking of? I think this is a great addition to TERA and its just a nice little perk to add. U dont even have to buy them seeing that your weapon skins change anyway when u pick up new ones.

The cash shop would become more extensive, obviously.

      • Brozathon

And GW2 cash shop wont right? only cosmetics? kkz.

This is a sub-based game. These services should be covered by the sub fee.

  • DoctorOverlord

Yipes, some of those cosmetic prices seemed high – $24?   Well if people are willing to pay it, let them.   If not, I guess they can drop the price.

$24 dollars for a game-item? Bloody rip-off and greed. Man they just want to make as much money off you joeys as possible and you don’t to crap but buy it instead of protesting these nut prices. Stuff I’d expect from a wheezing F2P game. Which this game will be heading in 1-3 years.

A wheezing F2P game like WoW?

      Race change: 25 dollars
      Faction Change: 30 dollars
      Server transfer: 25 dollars

      mounts: 25 dollars
      pets: 10 dollars

So either they are doing the trial run to change this game to free to play(<–doubtful) or they are just trying to gouge their customers some more by adding a cash shop on top of a subscription based game.

I am even less inclined to give these people my money. Even with the 50% off sale on Amazon

      blizz does the same thing.

And that somehow makes it ok?

I am not sure what you are getting at, with your comment.

Murphy’s law of economics: It’s morally wrong to allow suckers to keep their own money.

If people pay, it’s because they think they’re getting a good deal. No one forces them to.
