The Secret World‘s latest issue — “Digging Deeper” — has been announced and is set to release on August 28.

The issue features a few of things players have been hoping for as both The Modern Prometheus and Ockham’s Razor will open for business in New York and London respectively. Players will now be able to spend their well-earned PAX to keep themselves beautiful.

As with the last issue, the TSW team is also releasing a new set of missions, including one that will allow players to dig deeper into the history of Kingsmouth and its association with the Illuminati.

Players will also get the chance to get their hands on a shiney auxiliary weapon — the rocket launcher — in a mission that will have them teaming up with the Council of Venice, facing new Orochi technology, and having what may be a less than pleasant encounter with the Phoenicians.

And, as with Issue #1, two more dungeons are being given nightmare modes: The Facility and Hell Eternal.

Funcom Announces The Secret World's Second Issue

You cannot imagine how happy I am!!

you can now play it for 3 days and get an extra 2 days of game time and 1200 bonus points when you complete 30 missions

I’m not sure if trying to turn the game into a content race is in Funcom’s best interest.

  • Old Ben

So, is Gary still playing TSW? He completely failed to mention it in the last TWIMMOs, despite the fact that there was a free weekend coming up.

I played for a bit in beta but never picked up my copy…still on the fence to this day. It doesn’t help that Funcom is now acknowledging poor revenue performance for the game and mainly blaming metacritic for that poor performance… :(

    • Old Ben

If you played the beta, you have all the information you need to make a decision, no?

Does Funcom’s revenue make a difference to the gameplay?

Actually, yes. No point getting invested in something that may not be updated the way they say it is going to be. Don’t misunderstand. I’m not bashing the game at all. I liked its unique feel, I didn’t like the combat. All in all I have no issues with the game, just not sure if the discovery is enough to keep me interested if (financially) the game isn’t supported the way they originally designed.

          > just not sure if the discovery is enough to keep me

          > the way they originally designed

I don’t see how that is an issue.

If you liked the game, buy it, play it (it comes with one month of access), and then you can either keep paying the subscription if the content interests you or stop paying if it doesn’t.

If you didn’t like the game (i.e., don’t think it would keep you interested even for one month, or isn’t worth the box price), then don’t buy it.

I got bored with the game after three days. The writing and acting are pretty good and the investigation missions are fun, but you can’t do _just_ investigation missions (in fact, they’re about 10% of the game), and I hated pretty much everything else (robotic combat, single-player vibe, static NPCs, non-interactive world, lack of replayability, etc.), so it wasn’t exactly a hard decision.

The game is performing very good after what I have seen. Most people who keeps an eye on the mmo genre agreed that the target numbers where probably unrealistic. The game is easily worth the box price, even if you only play it for one month you can have a lot of fun in this game, and hopefully they will keep up the monthly updates for a while too.

Actually 3 days ago Funcom said the game flat out wasn’t profitable and mostly blamed Metacritic reviewer scores (not the forecasts, which I agree with you on). The shining light in the story though was that they think subscriber churn is low and players that are in the game stay so they hope this will lead to profitability within 12 months. On your note here I did pick up the game on ebay today and am gonna give it the 30 day whirl before deciding for sure :) Thanks!

Is it true that because of poor performance the games will be laid off for a while until they fix its current bugs and problems.
