Funcom Announces 1,000,000 Players Registered For TSW Beta Event

For anyone who hasn’t been paying attention to me going on about it — it’s okay, I forgive you — The Secret World‘s First Public Beta Weekend starts tomorrow. I know you can’t see me, but I’m definitely a ball of excitement. This is the moment I’ve been whining to whoever would listen to me long enough about for a while now.

Granted, the beta is limited. This time around we’ll all only be able to play Templar and see London and Kingsmouth — the quiet little zombie filled town. I’m a bit disappointed there. My heart belongs to the Dragon. But hey — London!

As it turns out, the beta is already looking to have a pretty big showing as at this time one million players have signed up for it. This actually beat the number Funcom had for beta players of Age of Conan around the same time in development.

As is the case with most games, the beta keys are a combination of things pre-orders, pre-purchases, PAX east key giveaways, keys given away to players of the social media experience The Secret War and most recently a giveaway through GameSpot.

For anyone interested, there were still keys to be given away via GameSpot as of last night. Pop over and grab one.

Most — if not all, by now — of the GAMEBREAKER staff will be in game at some point this weekend, and you can look forward to our take on the event in the following days.

Are there going to be any stream? Anybody know? I would like to see how it actually plays. From those few youtube vids it doesn’t look good but those were some old beta footage.

And I am pretty much as you guys discussed. I really don’t know much about the game, but curious to just play it. No better chance then a free access of beta to see how it is.

Doesnt matter how fun the game may be, it’s already doomed!! EA are known for releasing games when they are not even ready just so they can make money as quick as possible. So games are released with missing content, false promises and an insane amount of bugs!

where’s the proof…..where is the live (crashing) countdown.

Bad body and jumping animations….

should I even bother to go on……

Niche game will have some subs survive for a time than switch to F2P.
unless they can fix all above mentioned issues; than it will have a stable following but nothing major, will be spared the disgrace of having to go F2P.

Have had My hopes up for over 2 years about this Game, Ragnor Really knows how to tell a story….

-Unfortunately, My experience w/ funcom has been abysmal, so far…There “Open Beta” has been far more user unfriendly than I’d hoped.Uninstalled Beta after 3 1/2 Hours of one issue after another.The best support has come from other peoples posts on facebook.That = Failure, in my book.I’ll buy the TSW box after it comes out, after the rest of the prepurchase crowd finishes beta testing it on their dime, not mine.Truly disappointing, as I’d been an ardent fan, up until today.This game is nowhere near ready, and I really doubt it will be by june.My Heart truly goes out to the designers, maybe they will be listened to eventually.It must really , really suck to be told when and what to do by someone that knows nothing about gaming.
When will the Bean counters Learn that listening to Your playerbase = Success, and listening to Your shareholders = failure. Back to playing a closed Beta of another Game, Where the feedback response has been amazing, so far. it took about 30 minutes to install and be up and running, btw.& I’m talking about Firefall, not GW2.

I don’t have high hopes for this game but I got on beta just to try it out. Maan, I had a lot of fun playing it the questing was so much fun yet challenging at the same time. This game is not just about combat/killing stuff but it makes you think as well like literally you have to use your brain and eyes to do some of the quests(a memory will be your advantage). There are different quest you can do investigation, sabotage, solo, group etc. One of my favorites was the puzzle, riddles ones(there was one quest where I have to search up a code in a bible with the help of ingame browser of the game, it was funny actually).

Skill system unique as well with all that 500+ skill abilities but you can only choose 14 all in all. 7 active and 7 passive ones with your weapon as your foundation. You can choose 2 weapons and swap it out on your liking. The key here though is to synergize all of your abilities depending on your build. The game mentioned that there are no classes but technically they have literally hundreds of them which are called decks in the game.

Players who love crafting will love this game to anyone who are familiar with minecraft it is the exact same system, it was a lot of fun. The environment has a different feel to it rather than the overplayed fantasy genre like from other mmos. The music and ambience was fantastic it really draws you in emotionally depending on the location and situation you are in.

I noticed people will have a bad first impression of this game because of the combat which I agree that needs work and animations still needs polishing but overall it is really great game just give this game a try folks!!
