ArenaNet Previews First Content Patch For Guild Wars 2

Mad King Thorn hasn’t been seen in Tyria for 250 years, and that’s the same amount of time that has passed between Guild Wars and its recently released sequel.  It appears that the pumpkin-headed trickster only likes to make an appearance when there are actual players to experience it.  ArenaNet has put out a preview of their first major game update, Shadow of the Mad King, which is scheduled for release on October 22.  A week-long Halloween event will transform Tyria with decorations, mini-games, and new dynamic events in what the devs are calling an “epic adventure in four acts”.

Also coming in this update is the paid PvP tournaments that were teased last week.  Make sure you practice and get ready for these ultra-competitive events and remember, if you do well enough you can win gems and tournament tickets to fuel your new addiction.

Finally, ArenaNet ended the announcement with a bit of a tease saying, “The world continues to evolve with new events, jumping puzzles, bosses, mini-dungeons, and achievements appearing across a variety of maps.”  They have stated on the forums that some of their added content would be announced and some of it will be snuck into the game for the players to discover on their own.  Looks like we need to revisit some old zones come October 22.

What do you think of the Shadow of the Mad King update?  Let us know in the comments below!

I couldn’t be more excited, as a long time MMO player Guild Wars 2 has really gripped me, I returned to WoW for this weekend as I was gifted the latest expansion and my friend will be sorry to hear I won’t be sticking it out. WoW feels dated and stale now after everything A.Net have delivered.

Woot, haven’t log into GW2 in awhile.  Will have to give it a look next week.

I love the new events I find all over, but the travel costs can sometimes be an issue. You make decent silver as you do DEs and such, but I always feel like I am running on empty when it comes to my pocket cash. But I do love that they will keep adding events. I do sorta wish it was easier to find em though.

Most MMOs do a good job with holiday events. I always liked wow’s for example. I expect much fun and enjoyment come next week. :)

I’m looking forward to seeing what ArenaNet has planned for Halloween.   I’ve seen the celebration in GW1 and it was very lavishly done.    GW2 should make it look even more impressive.

The hints about new content in the world is particularly intriguing.     I’d like to see how well the new content incorporates into the existing content since this will be something I expect we will continue to see as the game continues.

That sounds really Awesome unfortunately i won’t be able to participate in it cuz my puter is gonna be in RMA Repair.  But what Richie Procopio wrote in his column blog sounds really awesome.  Well maybe next year will try it again.

Personally I dont care about Halloween, so I dont care about this event.

New items in the store is always a good thing, because the selection – especially of the cosmetic stuff – seems rather small.

I dont really care about structured PvP either, but I do hope they adopt my idea of playing out these events in a “Roman Collosseum” (there is already the one in the Black Citadel) with people buying tickets for a seat in the stands to watch it. No other eSport would have something like this!

More jumping puzzles and events are always good, BUT I wish they would focus first on some existing problems … like the rewards for the personal story and map completions totally sucking.

I was a little surprised that you have to buy with gems a costume to take part in the brawls .
The paid tournaments for tickets were the tickets can be purchased for gems kind of defeat the object of winning free matches to get tickets for hardcore matches ,were will the sense of achievement come from when anyone can simply buy a ticket .
Since they have eliminated any meaningful way of earning gold and with the promise of rentable areas to fight your friends it feels like they are herding players to the gem store ,hope am wrong .
This being the first addition it just feels like although you can purchase gems for gold most players will be forced to grind gold or pay real money to take part in what has been advertised as Arenanets main focus of e-sport Spvp.

I hope it is not the same as TSW were regular new content was promised then a few of the lower zones got some quests .
Were Arenanet bring content but the lasting fun element is paid only .

SWTOR focused on bringing out content quickly while ignoring the major flaws and bugs ,given that a lot of events in Orr are stuck ,Plink is stuck in his golem  suit atm in the desert poor guy ,among others .

Players of GW1 will probably know if these concerns are valid or not .
