If you’re one of the people that are eagerly anticipating The War Z, you may have something new to contemplate before jumping into the game — or at least before you buy any items from the cash shop.

Much like everything else in a zombie overrun world, your cash shop items are not safe.  If you purchase something and then are foolish enough to die with it on you, you’re going to lose it.

According Hammerpoint Marketing Director Alex Josef in a recent interview with Gaming Blend:

You’ll lose what you have in your backback when you die in both normal and hardcore modes.  And yes, if you bought something using real money, you’ll lose that item as well. This is a price you’ll have to pay.

He goes on to say that this decision was deliberately made to make players treat the game more seriously.

We’ve discussed that a lot and at the end decided that this will provide a pretty good incentive for players to either be extra cautious while playing or just not spend too much money in the game and instead try to procure all items by finding them in the game world.

On the one hand, I kind of like this logic.  But on the other… I wonder what the point of the cash shop is if they’re hoping you’ll opt to find other ways to acquire items.

The War Z Players Will Loose Cash Shop Items Upon Death

    I have a solution-

Players should buy skins for weapons + the weapon/item

If player dies, they lose their weapon or item but they keep the skin so if they discover the weapon later ingame then they can apply the skin to that weapon.

    Problem solved.

and how is this game different from Day Z?

what a total waste of money. there’s no gain for the person that spends their cash and why would they? (not taking into account silly little kids or rich brain damaged pricks) buy something on the cash shop log in and die there’s X amount of money gone just simply gone and someone else gets your stuff that you bought with real money,  how is that any different to theft or looting? cash shops shouldn’t be around to begin with i miss the good old days when these things where items in game that you had to unlock or save up in game currency to get them.

anyone that spends their money on that stupid cash shop deserves to lose it all and i will get this game just to troll them and i’ll f@#king enjoy it, because hay its costing them real money and costing me nothing but my spare time.

You cannot compare this to theft or looting if the transaction is voluntary. People spending money on a hobby is not as stupid as somebody playing an online game in which they are not having fun just for the sole purpose of malice and trolling other human beings.

I love this idea. You want to buy in-game items from a cash shop, I’ll make you lose them. ;)

      lol,…
Player drops 10 dollars on items and weapons…..Walks out into the open world….5 mins later a sniper kills the player….as they lay there dead…they see the sniper run up and take everything they owned…..

All i can say this is the game Devs fault for having this,..not the player. This is just a bad idea..lol

      Soultion is -
Players should buy skins for weapons + the weapon/item
If player dies, they lose their weapon or item but they keep the skin so if they discover the weapon later ingame then they can apply the skin to that weapon.
      Problem solved.

The blame in that situation cannot be (solely) placed upon the game developers. I would say the player is at fault for purchasing virtual items, especially if they didn’t read the red text on the contract/agreement.

I think they do this because they don’t want people buying stuff, getting killed, another player taking it, and this process keep repeating because after a certain amount of time every player will have the $ item. Because the person that bought it loses it if they die, not the person who steal it. If the item is not in the backpack of the person who took it when they die they will still have it, a however many dollars item for free. It’d be ridiculous if there were tons of these cash items generated from just a single person buying them and dying constantly.

You should lose the item when you die. You shouldn’t have an advantage over someone who cannot afford things. Im not completely positive of this games mechanics, but suppose I spawn out somewhere (like dayZ) in the middle of nowhere, and start looking through small little houses in a remote area. Chances are in dayZ if you see someone out there, they don’t have much weaponry because they are usually also fresh spawns. So why in warZ should i be immediately gunned down by the kid who spent $5 for perma firepower? That’s pay to win in my opinion.
