Defiance, the upcoming sci-fi shooter TV tie-in by Trion, is set to be released on April 2nd. Anyone that is eager to jump on the bus can pre-order the game now and sign up for the Defiance season pass.

Players who want to save big on the first 5 DLC packs rolling out after launch can now pre-purchase the Defiance Season Pass for $39.99USD, a 20% savings. Without the season pass each DLC pack would be $9.99. Also included in the season pass will be a massive amount of content including a new playable alien species, new weapons and vehicles, missions, and rewards, plus two bonus items, an exclusive digital Hellbug combat cap and a Lock Box.

The Defiance Season Pass can be purchased for $39.99 (PlayStation®Network) / 3200 Microsoft Points (Xbox LIVE) / $39.99 (PC). Once purchased, the content packs will be automatically available as they go live.

So at least 60+40 dollars and then after the first year you pay for every new DLC ?

I was wondering that too, So we have to play to a certain amount each year to get new content ? Or pay for new content??

      • http://www.facebook.com/benjamin.hubacher.1 Benjamin Hubacher

it is a buy to play game. no monthly fee with micro transactions. and all game content is accessible w/o buying the pass. just no xp or items from it.

Wow, bit much if you ask me.   To top it off, PC players don’t even get a chance to get the extra stuff in the two higher tier packages.  Eh, I’ll stick with just the normal purchase price.  all those extra perks should come with a 20 dollar premium rather than a 40 dollar one, like every other friggin company does.

pc gets them. i have had it pre-ordered since day one.

I’d personally rather pay a sub and not have to foot an up front $60 for a game I haven’t played  and will be expected to pay a little bit more here and there into the future for the feel and perks of the full game.

Kind of crazy how so many companies are scared of the sub model but still do the $60 up front, which to me is the hardest to do. They could at least offer every account a free week or month of game time before even having to sub too, the trick being getting people into your game if it is any good.

All good games priced right, will make money no matter the model though. Only idiots would pass on a great game because it did or did not have a sub (reasonably priced).

This shit isn’t gonna fly for me. The game is mediocre to say the least and if it’s released in it’s current state, it will be a monstrous flop. Actually I don’t see them fixing it at all. Compared to Firefall (which as well needs a ton of work) it is plain worse… and Planetside 2, well, even if it’s not the same genre, I cannot see anyone paying for this crap when they can have that badass shooter for free, completely free.

Both Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2 are Buy To Play.

    • Verus

With Guild Wars you are not forced to buy 5-6 DLC every year to keep up with the new content.

      • HarmonBlues

All of your other examples were with F2P games/companies. The distinction I was making was between them ArenaNet/The GW Franchise.

I can agree with your sentiments on DLC. Both DLC and Free To Play have to be done much better than even some of the best accepted examples for me to really get behind them.
