Trion Offers The "Armored White War Tiger" For A Limited Time

Tired of your stodgy old mount? Looking to ride into battle on something flashy and new?

Well Trion has good news for you.

For a little while now Korean Rift players have been running around on the “Armored White War Tiger” mount, and now you can too. Trion is offering the mount as a limited time real money transaction for US players.

While dropping cash on mounts is nothing new to the MMO player – by now and we’re used to dropping $25 on the ones we want – it appears Trion has decided that they don’t need all that money and priced the tiger $10 below going mount prices.

It’s too bad these mounts aren’t playable in all MMOs, as we might have been able to enjoy a mount price war.

If you’re thinking about picking up the white tiger — and I don’t blame you, I’m thinking about it myself — you can grab him by logging into the main site and looking in the same section that you would purchase the game edition upgrades.

If you do grab him, let me know what you think. And if you don’t, let me know why. Do you think $15 is still too much or that companies just shouldn’t be selling mounts?

I think anyone who would pay $15 for a virtual tiger should be mauled by one in real life.

    • Jado Cast

Why do you care?  I agree that $15 is not something I would spend on an item like this, but for those who do, it supports the game for everyone else that holds on to their money.  Okay by me.

    • Old Ben

What about people who pay $15 for a coffee, $150 for a bottle of wine or $1500 for a piece of shiny carbon?

Look at it this way: it’s $15 that are no longer controlled by that person, and will allow someone else to (perhaps) do something more useful.

    • Eric Nelson

There will be a lot of players who will want this for their game time for a mere 15 dollars, which is the price of a nice martini.  The money goes back to the developer.  Everyone wins.

It is probably more useful than the crap people are buying in D3′s RMAH.

I think I was one of the first on my server to get his kitty and later on that afternoon there were a lot of em in meridian.   I think its one of their best looking mounts so far.   Just having resubbed after 6 months off,  this game is still strong.

      …..

Glad they got the money from you while they could. The game is racing through water like one of its toon’s running animations – to hide how sadly small the world of Rift is.

TF2 allows players to create new hats / weapons / objects and, if other players vote for them and Valve approves them, the item gets added to the game and the author gets a share of the profits.

I wonder if, in a not-so-distant future, MMOs won’t start doing the same, and if we won’t see individuals (and even companies) selling the same item for multiple MMOs.

Imagine buying some (virtual) Ray-Ban sunglasses and being able to wear them in GW2, Eve Online, Watchdogs, Saint’s Row, etc.. Some companies already do that in individual games (through the game’s publisher), but as people become more comfortable with the concept of virtual goods, I think a market will emerge for cross-platform items, sold directly by the brand owner (or even by new brands, dealing exclusively in copyrighted virtual items).

    • Jay

       I think that’s a fantastic idea. One of those win/win situations…

I am imagining that and I am not really liking it much. I would especially hate having advertisement in game. It wouldn’t be too unusual for a F2P to go in that direction. Although the game setting would probably need to be close to the present.

      • Old Ben

In-game advertising is completely independent from having a “virtual item” shop somewhere in Ray-Ban’s (or Gucci’s, or Nike’s, etc.) website.

Some games already have product placement, and it would be perfectly possible to buy some shoes or whatever for your character without having any in-game ads for them.

I would pay 15 dollars if I could have the tiger in real life! Me WOW!

  • rob weik

The spider was the first mount you could buy for 10 USD actually it was an upgrade pack, you got mount plus some other items as well, so this isnt new…..

    • http://quintlyn.com/ QuintLyn Bowers

Oh yes. I forgot about that spider.  Blocked the memory. D: I hate those things. But yeah. This is the first solo mount available.  As you said. That was part of an upgrade pack.

  • Galdros

Wow, that is a very impressive looking mount. The detail is very intricate.

  • Crystal Soto

Just picked up my tiger mount. I’m more than happy to support Rift :D

There will be a ton of these in game.
    Count on it.

If Rift were my game of choice I’d be buying several of these just to make sure it stayed subscription based. You want to see F2P greed unleashed? Check out Star Trek Online: Season Six! Perfect World destroys everything it touches.

If I still played Rift I’d buy it

I pay $99 a year sub for Rift all the money I save in the sub I have no problem buying something cool like this. Not only did I purchase one for my account that is active but I bought one for my wife’s account so when or if she decides to come back to the game it is waiting for her. Defiantly a better looking mount than anything I have seen Blizzard come out with.

      > I pay $99 a year sub for Rift all the money I save in the sub [...]

By “all the money you save”… you mean negative 99 dollars? :-P
