Players are going to start seeing some interesting changes in the way the Guardians and Defiant feel about each other as Trion prepares for RIFT‘s upcoming Storm Legion expansion.

According to a forum post by RIFT CM James ‘Elrar’ Nichols some big changes are coming in which the two factions will take steps toward unification. Of course, things won’t be all champaign and roses between the two factions — they do still have some major differences to work out. But, as often happens, the two factions must put them aside for the greater good.

With all this in mind, Elrar made a small list of the things that players will be able to do cross faction once update 1.10 hits — including weddings… And of course anyone who wants a peek at them before they hit the live servers can check them out on the PTS.

The list is as follows:

Already on PTS:
- Open world groups/public groups
- Cross Faction Trade
- Looking for Dungeon Tool
- Entering a Dungeon/Raid
- Instant Adventure
- Weddings!

Coming soon:
- Chat (channels & tells including cross shard)
- Quest sharing
- Guilds
- Mail
- Friends List & Ignore
- Chronicles
- Group Queuing for Conquest/Warfronts

PvP Restrictions

Players on PvP Shards will only be able to participate in random dungeon groups with members of the opposite faction (besides Warfronts/Conquest obviously). You will also only be able to send tells to players of the opposite faction on shards other than your own.

If you are flagged for PvP on any shard you will only be able to group with members of your own faction – flagging for PvP while in a cross faction group will warn you that doing so will result in your removal.

In other awesome RIFT news, Trion currently has a special offer going for current (and former) subscribers who are willing to subcribe for the next year. Anyone willing to drop $119.98 via the official site will recieve the RIFT Storm Chaser Edition which will include Storm Legion for free as well as an exclusive mount and in-game title.

will we see a return of The Sanctum show? :D

Yeah seriously if any MMO has anything to talk about on a regular basis with updates on content and changes on regular basis it’s Rift. These guys aren’t afraid to take chances and do some game changing material.

Too many MMO’s don’t think outside of the box and have/are becoming stale. Rift’s formula so far seems to be win/win

I’m not certain if GB has the staff to cover a Sactum show, Taugrim jumped to SWTOR when it launched and I don’t want to speak for him but will probably be moving to GW2 since PVP is what he focuses on.  It seems that Mike B & QuintLyn are the only ones following the game’s progression somewhat. That could be changing though I seen Gary G advertise for “Video Producers” (whats that, derp)

Ah well all said and done it appears that Rift so far has made it more then several failed or failing MMO’s in the past and people are taking or giving it a second chance after Trion has showed that they can deliver.

A big challenge GamebreakerTV had with The Sanctum was Trion World goes silent on Rift updates for months at a time.  That’s hard on a weekly talk show.

I really do wish Rift the best and hope for their sub numbers.

Even a brief return for the expansion would be awesome! From what I have seen, it looks like it would be relatively easy to get some Rift Devs on an episode.  What with their own livestreams, and I’ve even seen Elrar and another join in on an hour long ‘Let’s Play’ youtube video with sambonz.

    I miss Rift.

Left Rift at the very start, but regardless of that it is refreshing to see Trion putting so much work into it. Really rarely do you see such updates and improvements to an MMO with a fairly small player base.

    p.s.: What’s a champaign? The city?

She sounds pretty normal to me. Also she’ll get better over time, when she gets more used to it, sounds like she sometimes gets a little nervous and rush the words. Not to a degree that is annoying to me though.

Removing the division between factions and the year sub deal including the new expansion are two very tempting details for me, I might have to return, if I can find it in my budget, even if spending as much time as “usual” is not an option.

There are other ways to work in pvp than having the pve community split into two parts that can not cooperate.
