The Secret World Factions Unite To Control The World Via Facebook

Eight months — yes, eight — after Funcom announced The Secret War, it has finally begun.  The Facebook-based ARG was designed as a social game that would allow players to wage “war” against the other TSW factions in Facebook by acquiring allies and taking over areas around the globe.

Players of the ARG have the chance to win various prizes; including a trip to Montreal, their name being implemented in the game world and the ever-coveted beta access and a three-day head start at launch.

Those interested in taking part in The Secret War can join by going to the campaign on the TSW site and linking the app to their Facebook.  Yes… you do still have to connect it to your FB account.

I know many people are creating fake accounts in order to play.  But, according to a blog by the FB developers, they do delete fake accounts and sometimes take further action so you may want to consider that if you’re particularly attached to that particular social network.

Once connected, you’ll see what places are taken by which faction, who among your friends are “enemies” or allies and the series of achievements to be had.

If you’re not against adding people on Facebook for it, it might be fun.

It seems like years since I put a little dragon emblem on My FB avatar….
I haven’t been too active at the TSW forums for awhile, but I’m hoping they really ramp up the ARGs, they’ve been going on for Years.Hooking up with your faction via FB will probably still keep anyone interested up to date. I sorta figured they started the secret war back up again, when I saw the 100 or so friend requests from people that all had the faction emblem in their FB pic, as is required.

I saw they were hiring motion capture folx awhile back,
if they can get solid animations down, + Ragnor’s ability to tell a story via this amazing medium,
Then it will blow everyone’s idea of what an MMO can truly be.

Sounds really interesting, seems like a nice way to implement social advertising.

As long as you’re not one of those people who don’t like the idea of it being connected you your Facebook account then it’s great.  If you are… :/

Or, if you’re like me and all your friends interested in TSW are dirty Illuminati traitors…

      • Erik Merickel

My friends went Illuminati as well. A shame really, as they shall be crushed under the shiny scales of the Dragon. Which way did you go Q?

Also, this is why I keep what is on my Facebook account very minimal. If i want to share details with people, i will do it personally ;)

          *edit*
(Why does my picture not always show up… grr.)

Only one way to go… Dragon all the way.

             Aye Verily.
There rer 3 sides to every coin.
Nobody counts the edge, as improbable as it is.

Awww….spoken advertising at the top of breaks? This makes me sad. :(

    • HarmonBlues

Donate to GBTV then. Less donations, more advertising. No donations, no advertising? No GBTV.

I am glad they got their new office too. And again, I get advertising, hence the commercial at the top of most videos before the video starts. Now they are putting commercials in the actual content. It’s just a bit much in my opinion, that’s all.

It’d be nice if it weren’t necessary, but advertising equals revenue, which means they keep going. I can live with it.

I clearly understand advertising, but that’s what the commercial before most of the videos is for. Now they have added their own in content commercials too…

If Gamebreaker gets sponsored by a huge company represented in the NYSE with incredible streaming technology and infrastructure, I am all for it. Imagine the day when Gamebreaker gets streamed to the millions through Netfilx. Don’t be so anti-capitalist you socialists.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-Byrne/100001642673542 Michael Byrne

HAHA…yeah I don’t like watching MULTIPLE advertisements before a  5 minute program therefore I am a socialist. Troll fail.

          • Revanhavoc

OK if not a socialist than a whiny baby troll baby. Who is a marxist. Baby. Wah.

  • ChristopherMitchell1

Netflix again guys… seriously annoying me now.

  • http://twitter.com/TiitJaaniste Tiit Jaaniste

lol at the ending, where mike turns his head really fast

  • QSatu

Why people have problem with netflix. So gamebreaker makes a small advertisement at the start of the show. it takes like 10 seconds. big deal oO

  • Revanhavoc

It wil take some practice before you can get a smooth verbal transition between the advertisment and the story, but eventually the goal is to make it unnoticable. I’m sure you’ll get it.

I made a Facebook account for havoc to do things like ths, I’m not using my Facebook for it, too private.

This is Funcom’s attempt at “free” advertising, since no one knows about this game.
