In today’s episode of Chat Bubbles, we want to know what is your greatest MMO achievement.

Many of us have been playing MMOs for years and we’ve probably collected a laundry list of accomplishments that will stay in our memory banks for decades to come. It could be something you earned by yourself or an obstacle overcome with your guild. What is that one thing that was the most difficult, took the longest, or gave you the biggest rush to overcome?

Is reaching maximum level on your first MMO character a memory you’ll not soon forget? Was being the last one in your PvP team standing in an important match something that is still talked about by your friends today? What about the weeks you spent battling the same raid boss only to finally taste victory because of something awesome you did? Those are the stories we want to hear today.

mmorpg chat bubble What Is Your Greatest MMO Achievement? While overcoming the Mad King’s Clocktower jumping puzzle in Guild Wars 2 certainly ranks high on my personal list of awesome MMO achivements, I think that my finest moment comes from my years of raiding in World of Warcraft. As I describe in the video above, my guild had a really tough time with Kael’thas, the final boss in The Eye in Tempest Keep. After a month of not making progress, Blizzard allowed players to skip ahead to the next tier of content without defeating him.

I didn’t want to skip him, but the morale of my guild was low and they wanted to check out fresh bosses (and loot) from Black Temple and Mount Hyjal. But like Captain Ahab, I couldn’t get the white whale out of my mind. Months later, I asked my guild to dedicate an entire raid week to nothing but attempts on Kael’thas. Some people liked the idea, others hated it. I had four raids to take out my nemesis and after the third night, it looked like my personal quest for vengeance was a huge mistake.

On the final night of our Kael’thas week, we showed some sparks of progress in the complicated five phase encounter. But we were running out of time. I was sure if we had another week to work on it, we would get him down for sure, but the guild wanted to get back to the newer dungeons. The end time for our raid came and it was just about time to throw in the towel when I said the famous words, “Last attempt of the night.”

mmorpg chat bubble What Is Your Greatest MMO Achievement?Well, as you can probably guess, magic happened and we were able to defeat Kael’thas despite never seeing the fifth phase of that fight before. On the very last attempt of the very last night, Captain Ahab killed his white whale. I felt such a great sense of relief, pride, and adrenaline all at once and it’s a memory that I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.

Now it’s your turn. What experiences have you had that you’ll never forget? Was it acquiring a legendary item or collection of rare mounts? Was it hitting a milestone in gold earned from your efforts on the auction house? Have you soloed a boss that others said was impossible? Hit me with your best MMO achievements and stories in the comments section below.

does LoL count as MMO? world of TANKS, TANKS, TANKS kinda is for some people :D
an unexpected Barron steal when playing Nocturne, i raped all 3 of them after that
    BLOOD RAGE FTW

  • Ravenstorm

Defeating Arthas in raid. That was the epitome of everything our guild had worked for for years.

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Ah yes, the first Lich King kill. Getting the Lich King down to 10% and then a raid wipe…oh wait…

      • Ravenstorm

Hehe, and then shouting in voice chat to not press ok to ressurect because some people were so emotional they’d forgot that fact.

  • EduardoPaperShaper

When I first started playing Guild Wars 1 I wasn’t kind of a big deal, then I got  alittle better at it people knew me a little more and I became very important.

After that I made a lot of gold and moved my guild to a new place and even bought many leather-bound books and furniture that smelled like rich mahogany. My shrink says I may suffer from a psychosocial desorder  because I tell people I’m a “God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals”.

Ragnaros, and Nefarian. Nothing will compare to the
epic feeling of downing those bosses with my guild.

    • http://twitter.com/RichieProcopio Richie Procopio

Both the Ragnaros kill and Nefarian were simply amazing for me and my guild. Definitely some of the best memories. Getting Kael’thas though was a bit more personal for me though. He was my nemesis!

As I sit here thinking, nothing really comes to mind. I’ve lived such a boring mmo life.
The closest thing I could think of was the first time I completed The Prime Battleground raid(DCUO) when it first came out and it dropped my weapon and then I won the roll for it.

Or all those times in starlabs pvp in DCUO where I would stand on the middle point while the enemy team would beat down on me but I wouldn’t die. The rest of my team would take the other points and would run by and throw me a healing barrel once in a while. Being an Ice tank was so much fun.

Oh, I know, completing lupicus in Arah exp on GW2 on my team’s first run of Arah and then completing it on our first try every night after that until I had enough tokens to get the gift for my legendary weapon.

I raid led a 10 man through heroic ICC to get their drakes on a backwater server. A server where I (a healer) would try to get poached every few days. Did all this on a 6 hour schedule. Managed to be to 5th on realm or so… compared to other guilds that have 12/hour week schedules.

I raid led a guild through heroic ICC on a backwater server on a 6 hour raid schedule. Managed to get our drakes. This was a very backwater server…. where I (a healer) would try to get poached every week due to lack of competent people. Managed to get like realm 5th on progression, only guilds that beat us were raiding 10+ hours a week.

    So many,

    - My guild sticking with getting my Goblin Mage her Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest legendary staff.

    - Our first kill of the Lich King on my Resto Druid.

    - My very first low level Hogger raid.  We were a bad ass bunch of gnomes.

    - Winning the headless horseman mount on the last run of the last day of the Hallow’s End holiday event. My Resto Druid still rides that mount.

    - My level 40 Warlock (now my main raider) getting the Dreadsteed mount through the traditional quest. Same with my Druids swift flight form.

    - My raid team earning the Naxxramas “the Undying” title before nerfs.

    - Watching twenty people fall through the floor on the first day Elegon was available for Mists of  Pandaria lfr.

Great story Richie!! thats what makes MMOs great… the memories and the sense of accomplishment! and wouldnt you agree that GuildWars 2 could use ALOT of this? theres just nothing that is bonding our guild together other than habitual videogame playing ;(. I like the game but its very humdum in a bland way. Our guildleader said it best: “Guildwars2 is like walking around the most gorgeous museum – sipping tea and listening to john tesh.”  The sights are nice but its overall a forgettable experience.

Anyways, I have alot of wonderful Warcraft stories that I’ll never forget. But my favorite memories come from Everquest. You know a game is good when you remember dungeon runs from 12 years ago… I played a Bard.. a very hard to master class with an interesting mechanic of “twisting” songs. its a support class with crowd control capabilities. Raids were big deals in EQ – sometimes needing up to 60 players. We had an important raid in Kingdom of Wind, Plane of Air. Was an necessary obstacle to creating a key to enter that expansion’s final zone.. the Plane of Time. 3 hour raid… getting near Xegony, Queen of Air. At a crucial point our puller accidentally aggro’ed like 5 very nasty Crystal Spiders. That doesnt sound much in todays MMOs but monsters were NASTY in EQ and single pulling was a necessary artform because 5 adds was easily enough to wipe a raid. Responding quickly our Enchanter (another buffer/crowd control class) tried to “mez” (sound familiar? yes im sure Arenanet was inspired by EQ enchanter when they made the mesmer) the adds. She died fast though. Just as my raid leader was about to call “wipe” someone said “wait!!! Versuss (me) has them under control!!” I was able to mesmerize the 5 adds for about 6 minutes while the raid dealt with the pull. Basically single handedly saved the raid which probably would have disbanded if we wiped that far into the zone. I got alot of high fives for that and players still talked about it months later.

That night and killing the dragon Trakanon for my Bard epic… 7 months of work led me finally to the lair of Trakanon, deep in the bottom of Old Sebilis Ruins!!  We defeated the foul wyrm for a truely epic sense of accomplishment and an overwhelming sense of gratitude to my friends and guildmates for helping me. Loved those guys and will never forget them.

1st 12 in a row win streak in Arena (WoW) with my Arcane Gnome Mage. Grinding for Frostsaber in Winterspring in Vanilla days. 30min+ BAttle we eventually won in Arena (WoW). Special Arena Emote. ./lick (Sure got their attentions lol).

Cancelling The Old Republic Sub and Uninstalling it. (SW Fanboy at heart, just because it says Star Wars in title, ni point playing utter crap)

Lotro: Relogging into Lotro realising its a far superior game too the travisty that is The Old Republic.

Will never forget all the hard work that I had to get my paladin mount the old fashion way ! the feeling of accomplishing such a great feat at the end is amazing ! It was hard but was really worth it ! Between that and lots of other things, such has mounts ( hello Blue Proto Drake ) and downing boss’s with that sentance ” last try ” , I really loved downing the Lich King aswell ! aww, great memories from World of Warcraft ! Its those kind of things that I really miss now-a-days in games ! anyways my 2 cents on the matter :)

It was two achievements and one right after the other. I was parachuting into the Horde keep with my early assault group in Isle of conquest and Somehow I clicked out of my parachute and fell a very long way. As I came closer to the ground I got a backdoor job achievement and then as I hit the ground got a going down achievement. So I was happy to get the most perverted Achievement titles one right after the other. It’s bad when you think of it logically but funny as h… as it happened one right after the other.

Farming solo in raid near Booty Bay to get exalted rep.
Nine minutes before Cata` went live & it got removed from the game I got the rep /relief!

Sitting in AB getting last part of rep I needed for my Conqueror title, killed a few naughty Alliance DK, who I saw were coming back to try to take LM.
I rushed my fire mageling to get the speed boots when Ping! Title popped.
Known some players that played since game went live still don`t have it, took me a year+ :D

When I started playing Guild Wars 1, I wasn’t much of a big deal, then I got better at it and more people knew me and I became very important.

I traveled everywhere, made a ton of gold and moved to a new guild hall that had a library with leather-bound books and furniture that smelled of rich mahogany.

I spent so much time on the game that I had to be evaluated by a shrink, I told him that I was a god walking amongst mere mortals and he concluded that I probably suffer from a psychosocial disorder.

If nothing I just said made sense to you, its because I’ve been making cheap references to titles I got from Guild Wars 1 :p.

  • http://www.facebook.com/spikeadilly Spike Barkshire

I would have to say when I finally got the Insane achievement in WoW.  I ground the shit out of  all the rep including Shandralar(till they took it out. I was pissed btw). My guild mates would come on and see me in Dire Mual and know exactly what I was up to. I made a rouge just to farm junkboxes at level 60. It took forever to get that!  I also love mounts and now have almost 170 Getting the first 50 was the hardest if I remember right. Now they just fall out of the sky for you.  This is a great Chat Bubbles Richie. I also love to read of other people accomplishments.

For me its hands down one moment. Spending the last three days of the GW2 Halloween event trying to beat the infamous jumping puzzle and after about 6 and half hours in total I was disheartened and grumpy and even my dog didn’t want to be in the same room as me.

Out of probably hundreds of runs I had only made it to the halfway point maybe 20 times and the close to the final staircase 3 times.

The event was coming to a close and it was the last hour to try it so I decided to give it about 5 more runs so I could say I had given it my all.

Each time I died in the same spots as usual and I said in chat (everyone was quite familiar with me by then) that I was signing off for the last time with this cursed event. They all tried to get me to stay and get to the end and I really didn’t feel up for it but this one guy convinced me to run it one last time with him.

I found him in the waiting room to see what he looked like and when it started up we ran together. I couldn’t believe it. I matching him jump for jump, landing for landing, all the way up and made it into the top of the tower.

I was cheering in chat and everyone was super happy for me. Best feeling ever!

My greatest MMO achievement, would be making friends in-game that I ended up speaking to outside of the game.

  • RBHgamer

For me, my biggest achievement in and MMO was getting the title “God Walking amongst mere Mortals” in GW1. I also did it just barely inside of one year … a consequence of a long unemployment.

Well surprised no one has said this one, it was for me was when the guild I was part of at the time was Sunwell downing Mu’ru OMG that boss was the TRUE guild killer and none have come since. WOW It was the last night of our raid week and or raid leader aka guild master told us if we don’t do this, that one there nerfing him, and 2 where dis-baning the guild. From that moment we got our SH together and we did it it was the last pull of the night and man when Mu’ru went down OMG I swear to god most of the guild if they died that night it was worth it, in all my 5 1/2 years of playing any MMO that was it for me wow Mu’ru lol.

  • robotadventures

My greatest achievement isn’t so much a boss fight as a play improvement. I’m 47 years old and I started gaming way back. When I was young I played a lot of FPS games and had the dexterity to handle those games. As I got older, a sad thing happened, I became motion sick to FPS games. I moved to strategy games and eventually to MMOs exclusively.

I quickly began using the mouse almost exclusively for everything and completely abandoned WASD. Then Star Trek Online came out and I needed to move with WASD. I wanted to give up many times and felt like I was just going to have to accept sucking at any game requiring the use of the keyboard.

Well, I didn’t give up. I’m not going to pwn at any PvP tournaments any day soon, but I am competent with WASD movement and am even getting pretty good at dodge rolling in Guild Wars 2. So that’s the gaming moment I’m most proud of.

My greatest achievement was finally finishing all three main campaigns in Guild Wars for the first time (about 2 years ago now). Though I still need to finish Eye of the North, GW was the first game I can say I actually completed since the Wizardry 1 and the first Stronghold story campaign way back in the 80′s and 90′s.

greatest…..zg bear run and topping dps on my shaman in non-tier gear. most memorable…..first time we downed rag in MC, took us way too long, but we had a blast doing it

  • Depravity

Honestly? Leaving Warcraft and going casual with all the other MMOs.

    • http://twitter.com/MiZTiiX MiZTiiX

so you have not achieved anything great within an mmo then?

  • InvaderMig

The best moment for me was back in the early days of TBC, in Hellfire Peninsula.  I was being harassed by a lvl 70 and this guy wouldn’t let up for about 2 hrs.  I called some guildies up and managed to scare him off, or so I thought.  He came back and continued to grief me, so I asked for help in general chat as well as from the guild once again.  After a while many other lvl capped players just roamed the area looking for this guy.

All of a sudden that guy comes back with about 15 or so of his guildies and owns all of us.  Other players call for back up, the opposing side does the same, and all of a sudden there’s over 100 players battling it out around the Stadium PvP cap point.  It was my first taste of true impromptu open world PvP in an MMO, and it was freaking glorious.  The battle lasted for about a good 30 mins or so of taking and retaking the stadium.  Little skirmishes were constantly breaking out all over the place around the stadium as well.  I was blown away by the scale and the amount of fun I was having.  That was the first and last time something like that ever happened to me in WoW.  Sure I raided cities and what not, but that fight started all because I was being griefed and it escalated into a huge battle over a point no one would typically care much about.

  • Andrew Schulte

Joining a raiding guild in Vanilla WoW and on my trial run through BWL their main tank eats it an nefarian and I jump in to save a wipe.

After bashing our heads against the wall on C’Thun in AQ40 for a month, we finally get a perfect attempt and mop the floor with him..
