Big news came from Carbine Studios today. In a State of the Game Letter from Executive Producer Jeremy Gaffney, he announced a WildStar Release in 2013:
“We’ve always been focused on launching WildStar when it’s ready, but we think that time’s approaching fast. And so today, I’m very freakin’ excited to share with you that our schedules are pointing towards WildStar hitting “It’s Ready” this year: 2013. We meant it when we said that this was going to be The Year of WildStar, and that begins right now.”
A WildStar Release is exciting for those waiting to play the Firefly-esque MMO unveiled two years ago at Gamescon. The cowboys-in-space game features rabbit girls on alien planets and promises to be epically different from other games in the genre. Gaffney claims to “solve some things that have dissatisfied us as gamers with many MMOs at release. “
He goes on to describe a leveling experience that isn’t tedious and a varied environment that includes “low-gravity or giant robots blasting the ground you walk on”. As far as end game Gaffney describes “epically hard raids” and dynamic terrain that is affected by the player. Sure there is player housing, but with the WildStar Release we can expect to build battlefields, or “Warplots,” so PvP players can “build, invest and show their dominance” over others.
Three new videos were put up along with the announcement of the WildStar Release. The first tells us about the Exile Faction that will battle against The Dominion, but the others describe two of the four paths players can choose and the types of missions that will go along with them. The Soldier Path is the “path of destruction” and the Explorer might do scavenger missions or claim territory. This looks pretty fun, and we won’t have to wait too much longer. In anticipation of the Wildstar Release, Carbine has invited a few fans and critics to an Arkship event to test out the game. WildStar will be at PAX East in Boston this March for anyone to try it out. A closed Beta should start within the next few months, and you can sign up for it now. We have concept art of Deradune,” a zone full of savage wildlife, both native and introduced” below.
