The Mechari are the Third Race of the Dominion
The Mechari are inquisitors. They thrive on asking questions…and enjoy the process of getting the answers. For this week’s WildStar Wednesday, Carbine interviewed a member of the Mechari race. It’s the third and last of the “Meet The” series on the Dominion races that also includes interviews with the Cassian and Draken races. The interviewer was abused to the point of personal terror, but they did manage to get a few interesting tidbits out of the female Mechari, Agent Voxine.
Voxine is a member of the Imperial Corps of Intelligence, or ICI. “The goal of the ICI is to safeguard the Dominion from all internal and external threats—such as traitors, spies, or highly curious members of the press.” This explains her love for interrogation, and perhaps torture.
A female robot? It might not be that big of a deal in this age of Fembots, but the Mechari are gendered very much on purpose. It seems that organic life forms react more favorably to beings that are gendered. The same goes for eating food. Although the Mechari do require an energy source to function, Voxine tells us, “Consuming food is also a useful tool for manipulation. Seeing Mechari eat gives organics the comforting idea that we are, in some way, like them. A most exploitable illusion.”
In an exclusive chat with Chad Moore, WildStar designer, Massively asked about another biological necessity, reproduction. Apparently that information is still classified, but Carbine promises a very interesting answer.
Unlike the human races in WildStar, the Mechari don’t split their allegiances between the Exiles and the Dominion. You will only find Mechari within the Dominion. They are fiercely loyal, as evidenced by Voxine’s description, “The Dominion is a shining beacon of civilization, spreading order and stability throughout the galaxy.” They believe their only path is total domination. This is mostly because they were made that way.
“The Mechari are a race of sentient, mechanical beings created by the Eldan to serve and protect the Dominion. As the Eldan were the most advanced race in galatic history, the elegant complexity of our design makes us uniquely qualified to ensure the Dominion’s continued success”
When asked about the other faction, the Exiles, she brushes them aside. “I fear that there will always be those who are foolish enough to resist the empire. I attribute their actions to the irrationality of organic beings. No matter, they are little more than inconsequential rabble, and will soon be efficiently annihilated.”
There you have it. The Mechari are mechanical life forms with organic complexities that they use to their advantage over “lesser” races. They were created with the needs of biological beings, and programmed with the arrogance of a Cassian.
