This week’s WildStar Wednesday features a sample of WildStar music players can expect to hear in the game. This video happens to be music from the Character Creation screen. It is what we will hear while customizing our character’s facial features and hair color. Too bad they didn’t give us a video of that.
This isn’t the only glimpse of music we’ve gotten from Team WildStar. Another WildStar Wednesday post included a behind-the-scenes look at the recording process with Lead Composer Jeff Kurtenacker at the Eastwood Scoring Stage at the Warner Bros studio lot. There’s also an interview with him about creating WildStar music:
“Music has such a unique ability to draw out an emotional response that it really becomes a powerful tool in the video game development process. Maybe it’s because I love food, but I look at audio as the seasoning in the video game kitchen: if you do it well, many may not even notice all the things that went into it, but they know it’s super delicious and they enjoy the whole experience—all the ingredients are enhanced. Do it wrong, and great ingredients leave the player with a bad taste—or worse yet, no taste at all. That’s when players walk away with that not-quite-satisfied feeling.” Jeff Kurtenacker on WildStar Music
We don’t have to wait until WildStar Wednesday to get more WildStar music. There are a ton of snippets available on Soundcloud to check out. Most of them are your typical MMO orchestration, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Music is an important part of a game certainly, but it isn’t supposed to interrupt your gameplay. There are a few standouts though. The Dominion Faction Theme almost makes me want to play on the bad-guy side… almost. The Cold Science of Supremacy is creepy and amazingly spacey. Justice Doesn’t Always Wear a Badge is my personal favorite, as it personifies what most people feel about this game. The juxtaposition of organic and electric in that sci fi spaghetti western atmosphere (shout out to Cowboy Bebop) is what gets me and everybody else excited. I want my robots with nature-obsessed bunny people. I want horses with my spaceship. I want WildStar.
