Someone has posted this picture of what appears to the be the Mists of Pandaria box and it is now spreading across the interwebs like wild fire. From our eyes it looks legit…what do you think…is this the real deal?

Yeah it looks real compared to the other box arts.

    • http://www.MasterRenny.com/ Thomas Renshaw

Looks like the other box styles

  • http://twitter.com/Luke_Malcolm Luke Malcolm

This looks legit, Not what I expected, but its just a box and could careless whats on it.

  • Kagitaar

I would have expected a green background, but Chen had to be on the cover.

    • Cody Moody

Eh, crimson or red is more associated with a “china” thing, I guess. Jade or Crimson would have both been iconic eastern-themed colors.

      • Kagitaar

Of course red is associated with China, but everything about MoP we’ve seen is green.

does this mean we are closer to finding out when it will be released?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1103680651 Dave Jeannotte

It looks pretty much exactly like every other generic picture of Chen Stormstout… so it’s probably legit.

anyone else notice how in the bottom right corner how it says “includes cataclysm”?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_APP4CFCUS2BZMBJU2PK3BDV7X4 JamesP

That says “Requires,” not “Includes.” This is the same as every other expansion has said. For instance, Cataclysm requires WotLK, WotLK requires TBC, and TBC requires basic WoW/vanilla.

Can’t wait for it, and to be honest maybe im crazy but im expecting something like ” rise of the fenix” :) and of course maybe blizzard will open eyes and let gnomes be paladins! :)

After Mike tweeted this I was wonder when there would be a hit on it. lol

  • 7BitBrian

Look legit to me, though I’m not sure about the color scheme. Is that some sort of reddish purple?

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Plum?  Would fit the color schemes in MoP.

  • Bob Emanon

does anyone have a better bar scan app and a better rez picture to see if its a old version bar code?

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Some articles say the bar code checks.

i had the recommended during  lich king and found that slow and laggy to the point of having upgraded my laptop and desktop both since then…. admittedly i do use my comps for other stuff too but realistically the recommended is still amusingly low for a quality game with high fps and all if you really want to have good gameplay in lfr, raiding… etc

    • Old Ben

Lag is mostly a result of a slow or unreliable network connection, not so much of your system specs (which affect mostly the visual quality of the game and the number of frames per second).

I suspect MoP will still run on older systems (with specs below the new “minimum”), you’ll just get less frames per second in the new areas (due to higher polygon counts, etc.). Blizzard doesn’t want to risk losing any players by actually forcing them to upgrade.

  • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

The minimum OS sould be Windows 7.  I upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista around the 4.1 ZA/ZG patch, made a world of difference.  I always recommend players upgrade to Windows 7, easier to stay alive if you can see the ground and spell effects.

    • Old Ben

Game runs fine in XP. Anything is an “upgrade” compared to Vista.

      • http://twitter.com/Luke_Malcolm Luke Malcolm

         ya Vista was shit

      • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

XP was solid.  But you will see inprovements if you upgrade to Windows 7.

        • Old Ben

In terms of performance? On the same system? Not really.

W7 does have some nice features, but they won’t affect the performance of the game (which basically boils down to your CPU and GPU).

          • Key Foster

Well actuallly the performace is better with windows 7 vs xp. I’ve tested them both side by side with the same cpu and gpu at 1080p res. (I was curious). So I did it with windows 8 also. It runs super smooth on window 8 (for it to basically be a beta-consumer preview). Put it did make a noticable difference. Turns out the os( windows7/8) is made to allow smart/faster access to major programs. The Hdd/ssd plays a big part in this to, but the os does the commanded routing.  So I got an old laptop (xp with 512MB ram, pentium4-m, 350GB 5400rpm hdd) and installed windows 8 preview and it ran pretty fast it was kinda funny/scarey lol. But it was fun to see somthing old run fast. Lol, I still experiment with windows 95 lol.

          • Old Ben

I have dual boot (XP-32 / W7-64) on this system, because I often need to test software for compatibility with XP. Performance in WoW is absolutely identical in both operating systems.

I have no idea what “faster access to major programs” or “commanded routing” are supposed to mean, and the HDD or SSD speed (which would be a hardware difference, not a consequence of the OS you’re using) makes no difference to a game’s frame rate (its influence will be on loading times).

The reason why most people see an improvement when upgrading to Windows 7 is that they upgraded the hardware as well (and got rid of a lot of useless crap they had running in the background on their previous system).

          • Key Foster

I agree that people do upgrade the hardware also, most just exhaust what they have first (or try to lol). I was speaking on performance in general not specifically frame rates, but i hear you.Real-why does/can the iphone work smoother/faster than an android phone with higher specs? (it really is noticable, im not a fanboy of either btw) Well for example, i can program a person (lol) to get some cake by just digging into the cake by hand to get it. And someone else can be programmed to get a plate, napkin, fork, and knife before getting some cake. One way is faster and one way is slower but the goal is still the same,.. getting some cake. (which priority/route has been chosen to get to the goal). (if you really want the cake lol lol lol). But the way an os is progamed (created/made) determines how things are accessed(though priority, routing, queing ext). Sometimes the how is more important. When i play with stuff like this i use old equipement (mostly stuff frome the 90′s) so that i can see it more clear.(with the naked eye) its still too fast to really see all. Its like looking at everything in slowmotion eventhough its realtime. Because with current to new hardware you can barely see anything without a program telling you whats going on. Sorry for this being lengthy.Oh and i must apologize (ty for helping me see this) about not being more clear about the hdd/sdd comment, (in a nut shell) i was basically saying fast drives go fast and slow drives go slow, thats what i meant by “it plays a big part”. (quint-boot system, windows xp-32bit pro, windows vista-64bit pre, windows7 64bit pre, windows8-64bit consumer preview, and osx-10.5. And an old windows 95 pc). I dont know everything but I love to play lol. Be cool.

          • Old Ben

            > -why does/can the iphone work smoother/faster
            > than an android phone with higher specs?

It doesn’t. But iPhones (of the same generation) all share the same specs, which means software can be tweaked to run more smoothly, just as games can be tweaked to run more smoothly on consoles. Frequently PCs will run the same games at higher frame rates, but with more “hiccups” along the way.

If you use an Android app on the exact same phone model that its developer used to test it, chances are it will run pretty smoothly (assuming the developer made an effort).

    • Ledpen

A 10 year old game engine having a minimum OS of Windows 7 is kinda silly.

      • http://twitter.com/Subrand0m Subrand0m

The minimum OS simply means they use dependency’s in the windows 7 OS that are more then likely not Present in the older OS. Thus it can cause issues and conflicts. Also xp is over 10 years old, Please upgrade. Thanks.

        • Ledpen

When the MINIMUM OS is Windows 7 it better be WoW2, Worlds of Warcraft, or something like that. By that time I’ve “upgraded” to Windows whatever with 100ish gig ram and a quarky bridge processor. Until then, I run my old beat up setup just fine…cuz i don’t have vista.

          • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

You can spend $300 on a new PC box, and WoW will run like a charm.   If you upgrade your old beat up setup to Windows 7 you will see a lot of benefits.

          • Old Ben

            It’s actually WoW 5.

      • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Should it only run on Windows 7, no.  But what Im saying is if you meet the other min requirements, you get the most bang for your buck from upgrading a real old OS to Windows 7.  It makes a world of difference.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Robbert-de-Wilde/1806039882 Robbert de Wilde

Should I act surprised? Pretty much expected this to be the box art.

  • http://www.facebook.com/oneniisama Bear Powell

Too bad the box art can’t make up for it so far appearing to be more of a failure than Casualclysm is.

  • Damir Miric

Ah I always wondered where the games come from

  • IPoke

Wow.. it’s a box.. with a panda on it. Surprise?

  • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

BTW, Dular is going Team Mogu.  screw the pandas.  The horde should have joined with the Mogu.

  • Jediwolf

The Secret World is setting the internet on fire ( not on this site yet but i have faith ), not the box art from an expansion from a tired old game. All the true fans are already burnt out on Panda`s cos of how long they been in beta hehe. EA might have backed the wrong horse with SWTOR  ( a horse they have destroyed themselves ) but looks like their long shot outsider Secret World is comin into its own and real gamers are loving it. Blizzard better get on with their new mmo me thinks.

    • Old Ben

TSW is the most disappointing game I’ve seen in ages. Granted, it’s not the worst, but it’s still the most disappointing. Great writing and voice acting, great-looking environments, and everything wasted with robotic combat and linear, repetitive gameplay.

That kind of game is just begging for a sandbox approach, but instead we get “follow the arrow, click the highlighted thing, follow the next arrow, kill 10 zombies, follow the next arrow, click the other highlighted thing, follow the next arrow, kill 15 slightly different zombies, click the button to get your generic reward”. Repeat, repeat, repeat…

      What a complete waste. :-(

I’m probably am one of the select few that feel this way… but I am VERY excited about Mists of Pandaria, haven’t been this excited since BC.

Kinda strange because I was not at all excited about WotLK or Cata before they came out. I think my expectation of Cata was so low that I actually ended up enjoying it. So hopefully I’m not setting myself up for disappointment for Mists.
