New Valor Point Upgrade System and Daily Quests

Valor points everywhere! Mists of Pandaria is bringing in new ways to earn Valor Points and new ways to spend them. From daily quests to a new way to gear up, Blizzard seems to want us to have some flexibility in how we’re playing and gearing at 90.

A clever gnome over at MMO-Champion showed us a new Valor Point Upgrade System. It works a little like reforging, only without the trade off of another stat. For example, you spend 800 valor points on some bracers and bump them up 25 ilevels, giving you another 50 int.

Because it isn’t live on the MoP Beta, or available for an official preview yet, all the numbers we’re mentioning are totally made up

In addition to this, many of the MoP faction daily quests will give 5 valor points per quest, with 50 available MoP dailies available per day people can earn about 150 points per day.

When asked if Blizzard was worried about people feeling like they had to do all 50 dailies, game dev Mumper had this to say:
“Not really. We honestly think it would be worse to actually raise the cap and make people think that now they need to do 50 or 100 or whatever higher number we chose. All of the daily’s are limited to a random amount per day so its not like you can do every single quest every day”

With more ways for more players to earn and spend Valor Points, Blizzard is certainly making dailies interesting.
What do you guys think?

Raider/raid leader, I agree with what Carina said, and I’m usually in the same boat as her either by design (I am at the bottom of the DKP charts), or what I need just won’t ever drop. This will be a good gap filler for those occasions.

WoW is just becoming easier and easier. here! take top tear gear! you dont have to play the game!

Valor doesn’t buy you gear in MoP. It increases the ilvl of a selected piece of armor.

    • Cody Moody

You can’t buy gear with Valor points in MoP, Phillip. Sorry to disappoint.

Hmm, more than a few players will save up the valor points and only apply them to raid drop gear.  So, you get your initial gear from quests, crafting, dungeons and heroic dungeons.  Run raids and hope for the raid drops and then apply the valor point upgrades, crafting enchantments, reforging stat changes, transmog and gem the raid gear.

    So,
    - Run dailies for VP and gold
    - Run dungeons for items to DE for enchantments
    - Farm ore for gems

    Piece of cake.

    • Kagitaar

Well, VP will come from both dailies and dungeons for sure, so as long as you log in for more than just your raid spot you should be okay on them.

One question is can you use the valor points to upgrade pvp gear? I’m sure this would be pertinent info to the pvp community. Otherwise daily quest valor sound decent and upgrades are a nice new addition I feel.

    • Kagitaar

I can’t see them not allowing you to upgrade PvP gear or else people would be subbing in PvE gear with iLvl increases. The question is, do you get VP from PvP?

I think it is a good implementation, other than the fact that heroic gear might end up being astronomically overpowered.

    • Kagitaar

Well, supposedly they have planned out scaling for 3.5-4 tiers, but it all depends on the amount you can boost. The current 25 number is just a placeholder; I personally think it’ll max at 8 or 12 extra iLvl so you can get closer (stopgap) but never exceeding the next difficulty level.

  • Blioux

I liked being able to do the work and buy nice gear. Was not as good as raid gear, but was still nice. I do no tlike randomness.

    • Kagitaar

They are still having purchasable pieces, but they will be from the rep vendors and (atm) cost the tokens you get from doing the rep dailies.

I think this will be great for my actively raiding toons… but it’s going to make it harder to gear up the numerous alts I don’t have time to raid with.  They’ll be worse off than they are now.  >_<

Are they going to do the same thing with honor and conquest gear?

  • Berry85

Are you going to be able to upgrade the old legendary stuff like
    Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest
