GBTV Staff And Fans Predict Release Date Of WoW's Next Expansion

To be honest, I don’t think we were predicting such a quick announcement of the release date for Mists of Pandaria, and we certainly weren’t thinking we’d predict the prediction with such predictive accuracy. (Yo dawg…)

But here it is anyway.

world of warcraft mmorpg mmorpg Over/Under Recap: MoP Release DateMoP will come out on Sept. 25, which is the exact pivot date we gave for our Over/Under on the topic a few weeks ago. By rule, that puts it in the “Under” category, and since many of you were thinking it would be well into October or beyond, like this fellow:

Over, definitely a Christmas release

or like this bloke, whom we will refer to only as “Mike B”:

They can’t hit that date right now

we feel that calling it “Under” makes even more sense. Pandas ho!

This release date is in line with Blizz stating at the last Blizzcon that they would to get MoP out earlier then the normal winter release cycle for expansions. Personally I don’t care because I will be playing GW2 and it’s all Gamebreaker’s fault :P

Personally to me it doesn’t seem that much quicker (about 73 days short of 1 yr since Cata) than previous expansions or I should say not fast enough. Especially since we only had 5 levels with less zones it just made it feel that much longer (to me at least) and with only 3 tiers of raiding that seemed to drag on. Hot fixes & patches defiantly seemed to take longer & probably won’t be any better in MoP.

I for one won’t be buying it or not right away at release (can’t say I’ll never buy it since some friends still play wow) & will hold out to see reactions after the first few months.

Though I did see Netflix instant has “Kung Fu Panda Awesome Secrets”, those playing MoP may want to watch & get secrets to the monk class early!

Lol, you can tell MikeB wasn’t in the beta after the first few weeks. After the Valley of the Four Winds, the rest of the continent opened up all at once.   While Valley of the Four Winds was buggy as hell, the rest of the continent was really stable.

I was suprised Blizzard scheduled MoP release in the middle of Brewfest, figure Blizzard will either keep the level 85 boss in Brewfest (meh),  pull the level /8590 boss from Brewfest (boo!) or move Brewfest to October (kinda fitting).  Give everyone a chance to level up before the start of brewfest.

It may have had more to do with wanting to eclipse GW2 than any kind of game event timing.  It would be a miscalculation, but I can see it anyway.

      • JJversion1

I honestly don’t think that Blizz feels threatened by GW2, nor do I feel that GW2 is even trying to compete with WoW. I feel that most players, whom play WoW, will also be playing GW2. The fact that there is no Sub fee for GW2 will be a prime motivating factor in all of this.

    • Kagitaar

Even worse, atm Coren will be locked until MoP comes out, wasting days of mount farming time. Blizz says they might change their minds, and I can only hope.

Beta wasn’t really Beta. It was more then less a marketing tool.

September was the target month, I always though September 4th or 18th as 11th wouldn’t work and 25th is in the middle of Brewfest. But maybe they will move Brewfast to the 25th just for this year.

You can’t even “inb4″ on a WoW article before GW2 fanatics pounce. I’ll give you one thing, you guys are fast. It must be the 7 year arthritis from WoW kicking in. Oh well. WOoot come September 25 the game I have played for nearly a decade gets only better. See my friends and family there!

    • Old Ben

At the time of this posting, there are 10 posts in this thread. Of those, two mention GW2. Yeah, I definitely see a fanatic pouncing.

Are you trying to take Sharuko’s job?

P.S. – Jason, “on” is not “under”. I’m pretty sure that, by rule, you owe everyone a beer.

    3 ads for a 5min game break..BOOOOOO

    • Joseph Gabrielli

You didn’t get 3 ads, don’t even bother lying. If you have such a problem with ads get an adblock instead of complaining.

      • WESTPORT1963

Yes I did get 3 ads Mr. ignorant. All for Caseys..1 at the start and 2 more during the vid.

      • http://www.video-game.tv/ Jaxxy

Well I had 3 as well. 1 at the start, 1 at 1:46 and 1 at 3:42. All 3 for episode 2 for Brandon Generator or something like that. I know you guys need to make some money but I agree 3 ads in a 5 minute video is a bit much!

The next over under on should be:

Will Subs be up down same by march 2013.
or more importantly (to me, anyway)

Will North American Subs be up/down/same by march 2013 ?

    • Old Ben

As to that last question, you might as well ask: “Do gods exist?”

You’re more likely to get a reliable answer, anyway.

    • http://twitter.com/borded nathan law

how are north american subs more important? blizzard don’t care where the money comes from as long as they are getting it, if the north american subs were halved but the over all number went up that is still a success.

Are you guys dead fucking serious with these ads during the “news breaks”?  I understand 1 ad at the start – but TWO MORE ADs during a 5 minutes news break?  COME ON.

    • Old Ben

Actually, it’s smarter to have the ad in the middle or at the end than at the start. People tend to ignore ads at the start (mute them and use that time to read the article text, etc.), so they’re just an annoyance driving potential viewers away. A short ad closer to the end is more likely to be remembered.

But yeah, three ads in a 5-minute clip just works against GBTV and against the advertiser (because people will think of that advertiser not as the company paying for the news clip but as the company _preventing_ them from watching the news clip in peace).

  • Revanhavoc

I was straight up dancing during that intro. This has been a great concept from the beginning and an awesome way to get the community involved. In addition chatroom and some of the comment warriors are basically the cream of the internet crop so it makes sense we knew what was coming.

In other words, we’re all geniuses.
