It’s a brand new day with a brand new patch. 5.o.4 has gone live today for World of Warcraft, and it brings with it some of the biggest technical and mechanical changes the game has seen in a long time. Let’s dive right in and prepare ourselves with this little crash course.

Classes:

So I heard you like ranged weapons! Well, unless you’re a Hunter that just isn’t in the cards. Everyone has lost their ranged/relic slot and now there are only weapon slots. Hunters, I think it might be time to vendor those Twin Blades of the Hakkari. Hunters can no longer use melee weapons of any kind; instead they rock their ranged weapons in their main hand. Wands are now main hand weapons, so if you ever wanted to RP your clothies as the kids from Hogwarts now is your chance.

Aside from all of that crazy, you also don’t even have talent trees anymore. The lovely people at Icy Veins have written an amazing set of class guides for all classes and specs. So if you’re a bit confused as to where your totems are, the class guides are a great place to start.

Achievements, Pets, and Mounts:

Mounts, pets, and achievements are now account wide. With small exceptions (RBG and Arena PvP mounts etc) you can now run around with Iron Bound Proto-drakes on that brand new level 80 you just leveled. Oh and your main can finally have that Vampiric Batling you didn’t mean to get on your Shaman, but oh no, you’re nice and heal things for people even though they won’t run your Hunter through later. Jerks.

Cross Realm Zones:

Tired of wandering around in deserted zones? Can’t find someone to help kill that one rare elite that just spawned because everyone is sitting in Orgrimar? Fret no longer, fellow adventurers! Cross realm zones are here to fix that population dip. It works seamlessly like phasing. Wander out of Stormwind gates into Elwynn Forest and BAM! You got competition for your kobolds now. We will definitely be taking candle now.

11th Character Slot.

That is all. You get your precious 11th character slot which can be filled with some pudgy Pandaren or whatever else strikes your fancy. No, Pandaren are not available yet.

AoE Looting:

We’ve finally caught up with the modern day. AoE looting will make all of your farming much, much easier. Killed 60 little mechano-gnomes farming for the Jeeves pattern? No worries, AoE loot those suckers and start salvaging.

Dungeons and Scenarios:

Scarlet Monastary and Scholomance will have their long awaited revamp today. There are some small mechanics changes, but nothing that would strike a lore freak down and have them raging on the forums too hard. The first scenarios also come with the patch, but won’t be enabled until September 18th and will be available for level 85 players until the 24th of September. After MoP launches it will require you to be level 90.

Miscellaneous (or: Things I didn’t know where to shove so here they are):

  • Druid forms get their update! Stag form (yes, I will be rounding up our resident tree cat and bear and demanding rides) and the armoured bear/moonkin forms.
  • Warlocks get their new pets and some great new emotes. Note worthy because Richard Horvitz, the voice of Invader Zim and Dagget from The Angry Beavers does the new Imp voice. That in itself is amazing and a reason to play a lock now. It can be heard here with the other emotes
  • They’ve added in some new and shiny animations and graphic enhancements. So you will look prettier when you do your newly animated shaman spirit fingers.
  • The experience required to level from 82-85 has been lowered. Making it super easy to get those last few alts to 85 before pandas show up and make things difficult.
That’s it for now guys! If I missed anything super important let me know! Also let me know what you think about all the cool stuff, including the talent “tree” changes and whatever else this patch has brought, just leave a comment below.

Inb4 this post gets bombed by GW2 fans.

    • http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.hornsby.7 Jonathan Hornsby

Only fair; WoW fans have already bombed the GW2 post.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jim-Bergevin-Jr/1393526370 Jim Bergevin Jr

SWTOR still rules them all!! ;P

        • shyflanagan

and that game got sooo many ppl to quit so fast it is scary GW2 and WoW will never epic fail like that

          • Darth_Matter

GW2 will go exactly the same way as ToR did except they saved time by going F2P right out of the gate. lol

          • http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.hornsby.7 Jonathan Hornsby

But to play. There is a difference; b2p is the only MMO business model that is not a rip off.

          • Darth_Matter

Calling GW2′s F2P model ‘buy to play’ is no different than ToR calling server mergers ‘free transfers’ that happen to be forced. It’s the exact same thing. You pay a fee to start and then play for free aka F2P.

          • http://twitter.com/Mantose Leo P

traditionally free to play has no cost to it at all. No cost for getting the game and no monthly fee. Then they make money by selling power or content in the cash shop.

gw2 b2p is buy the box , no monthly fee , and mostly cosmetic sales in the cash shop. No selling of power and so far no selling of content.

            Big difference.

          • Darth_Matter

Oh okay. I guess ToR and GW2 will be exactly alike then. They are both B2P and I imagine the GW2 box price will be around $15 or so a year from now so there ya go.

          • Sathure

If the original Guildwars is anything to go by. It’s still selling for 30$. Considering it’s 7 years old now. It’s also still has an active player base.

          • http://twitter.com/cipero Matt Cipriano

So let me get this right…After I buy it…it’s free…
            HMMM….

          • http://twitter.com/Mantose Leo P

probably not that low since its still 30 bucks for some of the gw1 expansions

Not sure about TOR since I think they are actually going full free to play no box price… I havnt actually looked into it

          • Krzysztof Kotarba

lol… F2P game is like blacklight retribution, vindictus, dota 2, team fortres 2… games are totally free to play, GW2 is buy to play because you must purchase it. Second thing, GW2 is designed to not charge fee, SWTOR is just a huge loser.

        • http://twitter.com/Luke_Malcolm Luke Malcolm

Of course, you never mess with someone when they have a lightsaber.

        • shyflanagan

thats why SWTOR has already gone free to play lol that game was filure from the begining i like GW2 and MoP im excited

      • http://twitter.com/Luke_Malcolm Luke Malcolm

Well I’m not surprised really, as every WoW post has been bombed for last 4 months. I been trying to get into WvWvW & waiting for 5.0 to patch. Massive Bordem is insuing.

I will prbly finish my WoW Stuff before the queue even pops.

        • http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.hornsby.7 Jonathan Hornsby

Indeed. And boredom makes people jerks.

          • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

But he is right, as much as I like GW2, I do find the GW2 fans to be real asinine jerks on the WoW articles.  Of course some of the Gamebreaker TV staff and writers encourage this behavior.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.hornsby.7 Jonathan Hornsby

To be blunt; cry me a river. Guild Wars fans have had to deal with “WoW-tard” BS for more than half a decade on our forums, our youtube channels, media articles, and sometimes even in our games. No one is innocent here, and if WoW fans don’t like GW2 fan’s attitude they should take their own advice and stay the hell away from our community.

I’m not going to defend the recent GW2 trolls going to other videos, that crap has got to stop, but they didn’t start it, and it isn’t exactly unprovoked.

          • MiZTiiX

wow bro why you mad? literally every fucking wow video i go to it’s always you raging about guild wars 2. Calm down, everyone knows it’s not the messiah of MMO’s. More and more people are starting to realize it’s just an MMO, quite frankly alot of people are unhappy about the zergy PVE content and lack of things to do end game, you can’t deny it.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.hornsby.7 Jonathan Hornsby

Troll fail. I’ve never actually said anything about WoW itself, just its -generally speaking- piece of shit community. And only once or twice since I’ve started posting on Gamebreaker videos. That said the few complaints I’ve heard about GW2, there are always complaints, has been about the leveling curve and tradiing post, not the “zergy PvE.”

          • MiZTiiX

the GW2 community seems to be not doing so well either. All i hear is trolling and arguing in that game ALREADY! arena net is already banning so many accounts, too bad they suck at banning as they are also banning innocent accounts, way to make an impression on your community arena net! :D

          • http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.hornsby.7 Jonathan Hornsby

You mean the 0.01% of accounts they’ve banned? And no I didn’t just make up that number, Arena Net themselves have posted the statistics as well as screen shots on reddit to show not only who was banned, but why.

          • MiZTiiX

seems small as a percentage, but thats over 3000 accounts which is alot. Its ridiculous and guess what? the people who got perma banned, forced to buy a new copy, they got their accounts back. Anet is proving to be money whores, you think they care when in reality they don’t. Besides you still haven’t justified them closing down he forums because they cannot take criticism towards their game

          • http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.hornsby.7 Jonathan Hornsby

I don’t need to justify them closing down the forums because
they already did themselves. They closed them until the end of the release rush
because they are busy enough fixing the game and don’t want to be delayed by a
forum full of people raging about minor problems. There are some legitimate
concerns of course, but the vast majority of complaints are over simple things.
For example the biggest complaint, or I should say the loudest, that I’ve heard
is the supposed “leveling gap.” There is no leveling gap. Morons are playing
the game wrong, skipping content, and then complaining about being under
leveled. Arena Net doesn’t need a forum full of rage from people who fail to
understand that while they work to fix things that matter like the trading
            post.

          • MiZTiiX

Just an excuse for “people are not happy with our game, let’s close down the forums so they don’t hurt our feelings”

    • http://twitter.com/Mantose Leo P

not likely since gw2 fans are busy actually playing gw2.

      • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

and talking about WoW in the GW2 Map chat.  I am sick and tired of hearing about WoW while playing GW2.

        • http://twitter.com/Mantose Leo P

You must be on a bad server… or maybe I just ignore chat

          • http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.hornsby.7 Jonathan Hornsby

Agreed. I’ve seen one or two mentions, but that is hardly enough to mention. Most of chat in my server is people spamming for their guild or looking for the bank.

  • Draugmahl

Stag form…8 years for stag form…

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Miguel-Crespo/501398647 Miguel Crespo

I would rather FIGHT in that new stag form

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Don’t forget the Orca swim form.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Hamad-Ali-Al-Jalahma/512893526 Hamad Ali Al-Jalahma

The title is kinda confusing, should say pre-expansion patch or pre-Mop patch. This title sounds like MOP itself is out.

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

For the most part the patch is Mist of Pandaria, with alot of stuff turned off.  Not sure if Blizzard really wanted to show the cinematic or MoP sign in screen, but it’s there.

  • jayremy

WoW was kind of downhill for me with WotLK, the class direction then was good, and Ulduar was great. The Blizzard-Warcraft IP always felt most epic back in the Warcraft 3 RTS days, the only thing about Blizzard that remains consistent and on top of things, unhindered is their cinematic team.

  • Jasongvh

Wow is really starting to show it’s age now, you can see blizzard is pushing the engine to the max.

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Blizzard has been adding alot of tech to the engine for a long time, it looks great!

You really do have to wonder if they are ever going to update the player character models.

  • Tom Hayward

*Gary Voice* PEE VEE PEE POWAH!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/Nathiest Nathiest

Stuck on loading screen a long with a bunch of other people.

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Did the patch not download a few weeks back?  I just logged in again and the 64-bit client is working like a charm, no crashes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rammur65 Roger Means

blizz is gettin lazy now when it comes to events lol
