No, we’re not talking about the political upheaval taking place within the walls of Orgrimmar. Despite the interesting story unfolding around Thrall’s Azeroth-saving antics and the political vacuum into which it seems Garrosh Hellscream is stepping, this is a real world political battle. To quote the website set up by her Republican opponents, “Colleen Lachowicz is a Democrat candidate for Maine State Senate”. Unfortunately for Colleen, she hasn’t been keeping her habits in Azeroth closely enough under wraps, and she’s been outed as an Orc assassination rogue. Not only that, but the Republicans have gone to the immense trouble of setting up a website where they’ve posted her old forum posts about WoW and politics.
There are all sorts of highly entertaining articles on the web about this, some are intentionally amusing, and some unintentionally. Buzzfeed.com tell us that rogues are almost universally reviled by other characters in the game. Others discuss how Colleen loves poisoning and stabbing, and worry about how she’s managed to put more points into her mutilate skill after reading an Elitist Jerks post! Apparently the Republicans worry about the state of Maine being run by someone who’s specced into mutilate. Mutilating isn’t what American voters want their politicians doing. I can only imagine it’s because the better rogues spec combat or subtlety.
Reddit’s gamers are more worried about the fact that Colleen’s rogue is way below the expertise cap, and that she hasn’t really kept up with the changes to Assassination, and has Hurricane not Landslide on her weapons. Some also seem concerned that she’s playing an Orc rogue, thereby alienating herself from Alliance voters. Her item level is only 345, and all her recent achievements have been fishing-related, she’s hardly whiling away all her hours on WoW, as her recent activity reveals.
Does it matter that a senator plays a rogue in their spare time? Would it be better if Colleen was a paladin? Would you vote for a rogue?
