World of Warcraft Hacker Caught on Tape?!

Well-known PvPer Hotted posted a video on his youtube channel today, featuring a video that shows what he refers to as interrupt hacking. He is joined in this assertion by his team-mates, who just happen to be Swifty and Sallice, so he’s certainly in good company. Why does it appear to be a hack? It’s the speed of the interrupt, particularly later on in the video where Hotted is casting and is interrupted in what appears to be a fraction of a second. Even allowing for latency that is inhuman speed, as evidenced by how Sallice asserts earlier in the match that the Death Knight “just used Mind Freeze randomly and got [him]“.

Commenters on Hotted’s video assert that this is the work of one of several programs from a well-known hacking site. GAMEBREAKER does not endorse hacking, so will not be linking it here, and we’d ask you to refrain from doing so in the comments.

A big part of caster PvP is juking, the art of tricking an enemy into wasting an interrupt, trying to catch a cast you just stopped, and this addon makes that impossible. Indeed, the castbar barely appears, the interrupt is so fast. It doesn’t seem likely to me that a human could do that, and a human really can’t respond to it with a juke or fake-cast either.

But what’s your take on this? Do you agree with Hotted and think it’s a hack? It certainly seems that way to me, one occurrence could be pure luck, but the Death Knight seems to consistently be interrupting at superhuman speed. If so, and that’s far from 100% certain by the way, then Blizzard needs to take swift action to prevent this from becoming a huge issue in what is already, frankly, rather a broken PvP season.

Every video I have seen of this chick the voice doesnt match her facial movement. Its creepy and im beginning to think its ot the video acting up but the way she talks which is even more creepy.

Hopefully they can get the problem fixed, seems to be a bit of a buffering problem between the audio and video.

Get off of dial-up and your Pentium III. I have no issues. I like the library she’s got behind her – I thought mine was impressive!

lol im on cable with an i7 2600k. im not the only one with the problem either

        • http://twitter.com/PastSS_UniKage Chris Moore

I see it too. It is a small delay but it stands out.
Seen it in other videos as well.

  • http://www.facebook.com/karrgo Mike Karr

Hmmm. I don’t know on this one. I’m not quite ready to call it a hack based on only 2 casts. I will say that the cast was outside normal reaction time but not by a WHOLE  lot.  Now accounting for latency I am leaning on the side of a hack, but before calling it I think more evidence would be necessary.

  • http://www.facebook.com/oneniisama Bear Powell

It’s been around for a few years now. I know it’s been around since at least Season 3.

  • http://twitter.com/Cycrul Nojustyou

It’s definitely a hack.  Also for the full video, or swifty’s pov, you’ll just see it be within like .5 seconds of casting.  And just near the end when the DK leaves he like bows or dances and while typing it interrupts.  Aint no one got time for that.

    was it a gnome? eeew

  • http://www.facebook.com/jcoudrain Jerry Coudrain

or maybe he is just good at the shitty game?

but OH BLIZZARD SO FAIR LUV DA CUSTOMAH DEY DONT BAN U AND DEY REVERSE BAN OOOOHH BLIZZARD

  • http://twitter.com/Terraburn John Doolittle

It’s most likely part of a botting program. Many botting programs come with combat bots that can be run while in arenas or bgs and will perform a pvp rotation for you (as well as pve). Their interrupt time is split second and can get casts before a fake is attempted.

  • http://twitter.com/FishBaitism Fish Bait

Ran into copious amounts of them in arena.
ActiBlizz` know & have done sod all, surprise surprise ;)

  • http://twitter.com/izumicookie Izumi

This has happened to me on a few occasions in RBGs, only by melee tho. It’s far too quick to be human. It use to be blotted lag macros, now its auto interrupt programs, again.

Players just can’t seem to play fairly anymore. As if PvP wasn’t broken enough already.

Players do this and think there will be no consequences, no one will know or pick up on it but when they get hit with the ban hammer everything will be taken from them, they will have wasted a lot of time cheating and will of course act innocent.

Also: It’s a third party program. The article misleadingly states that it’s an addon.

Problem is that hacks as this one are just to easy to create as long as you have know how to do it.

Getting rid of them would be really hard for blizzard and proballby involve way more work than the creating the hack. Also for ones that are interested in who it works there are a number of ways to make it work the easyiest ist a simple bot running in the backround waiting for spells to be cast and using your spell in response. For Blizzard it is nearly impossible to prevent such a thing sadly.

hacker ppft. ban botters first lol. i played a warsong today at least with 7 bots on my team and at least the same ammon of it on the other side.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=794793904 Jeremy Griffis

She loves the sound of her own voice.  Can we just get to the video?

    • http://www.facebook.com/kevin.cox.5817 Kevin Cox

yes because it’s so hard for you to skip ahead……

    • Ravenstorm

I saw the link to the video, initially I thought we had to click on it tba to see the occurance botting. So it was a nice touch to actually see a piece in the chatbubble.

And generally speaking, we all love her voice. And her big blue eyes. And that charming smile. Don’t you?

Yet another reason to remove all forms of CC from the game including daze and interrupts, While we’re at it, it’s about time they added a push button receive bacon option. While there could be a sampling bias in that video, if they can collect enough evidence of the hacking it should be addressed both on an account level and by eliminating the source of the hacking programs.

  • Matthew Decaro

Why doesn’t GB give the link to the actual video so we can give it views, likes, etc?

    • John Doe

      There is a link search

  • Demi_God

Most wow players look at this and say, “Blizzard isn’t doing enough.”

I look at it and say, “damn if Blizzard can’t stop hackers and botters, it must be really difficult for any company to stop this kind of activity.”

I have 120millisecond latency with my server, and observe a with 132ms interrupt from an AFK player, do I need to be an expert to call hacks?

    • http://twitter.com/ChampionSheWolf Terra Silverspar

The answer to your “If Blizzard can’t” comes down to the all mighty dollar. Unless it’s really blatant and game breaking, Blizzard will always ere on the side of the dollar value, not on the side of what is fair. You don’t have to look far, considering the last story about hackers being banned and them back peddling on it on this very site.

A former UO developer stated that in an interview sometime ago that the dollar value lost is always taken into consideration first before bans are actually even considered.

      • Demi_God

Yeah, it sounds derogatory to say everything comes down to the all mighty dollar, but it is generally true.  Blizzard has been successful because they have always gotten more bang for their buck than other companies.

Still I’m like everyone else when I run into a hacker or botter.  I just want them deleted from the game and the human race, and get pissed off at Blizzard for not doing enough.

  • http://www.facebook.com/dalmoleonhart David Leake

People are saying he’s interrupting within 0.5s of the cast but people need to remember an average person’s reaction time is 0.2s (plus latency in this case) Still, after watching the vid in question, there are other various signs of hacking/botting going on. To stamp most of this out, I think Blizzard introducing a feature that allows people to watch already concluded PvP/Arena matches via a video stream (be it PPV/Subscription/Free2View). This will not only encourage people to report and pinpoint these hackers, stop more false-positives from happening but also stop most people from hacking in the first place knowing they are being watched by 1000′s of viewers.

Hackers in WoW? Slow news day?

  • ReAlIzEr

    Hack programs – sure.

People with fast reflexes and smart setups - sure.Latency times vary – sure.

As long as its reported in game, with time stamp, then blizzard can prove or disprove what we have seen here. In time a solution will be made and, a new hack program will be made to counter or new argument to be found to be the new problem.

    Every day I’m Shuffling.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Hamad-Ali-Al-Jalahma/512893526 Hamad Ali Al-Jalahma

I would suspect a hack, I mean no one can be that fast at silencing more than once.

  • http://twitter.com/olov244 Jason D Williams

that’s why so many hacks get caught, the users get too greedy. if he just saved it for a late game moment and used it once in the game no one could complain, but using it every chance….yeah

  • http://www.facebook.com/kirzansix Mike Coulombe

Derpy McDerp right there plays a DK and needs to hack. I mean, hack on a challenging class to play that needs to do strange things to be at full potential, like a druid with shapeshifts, or a warrior with gear macros. 1 2 3 4 and a focus cast is so hard.

  • Ravenstorm

No you’re right, sameish rig here, fast isp, also latency on the speech and mouth, have come to terms with it, not the end of the world, but yes a little freaky, even have switched my brain to not notice it when I see her talking, devotion, I haz it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000372530123 Scott Bamforth

Should of used swifties video, you can see it more clearly.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Namelessdweeb Michael Metz

This hack is old, but no one noticed this before?

  • http://twitter.com/MiZTiiX MiZTiiX

    busted

  • Kevyne_Shandris

This only being commented now? Notice this on the BGs long before now.
