Almost Five Minutes of Gameplay and Alpha Explanation in a Brand New Arma 3 Trailer
Bohemia Interactive released a “Sneak Peek” Arma 3 trailer today heralding the release of the Arma 3 Alpha. The video lets fans know what to expect when they sign up for—and get into—the Arma 3 Alpha.
First of all, the Arma 3 trailer starts out with sweeping views of the ultra-realistic “massive military sandbox” content. This is the “soldiers, vehicles and everything else that makes up the game.” It features a glimpse at one faction’s military units, which is what you will find in the Alpha. The “more powerful hardware like attack helicopters and armored vehicles” are penciled in for the Beta that will happen a few months from now.
Playable content in the Alpha includes “simple examples of potential gameplay offered by the sandbox assets.” It starts out on an island with different “showcases”, the first one being Showcase: “Infantry”. Alpha players will get a feel for the basic infantry combat Arma 3 will offer. Showcase: “Scuba” is pretty cool. It is a “quick underwater infiltration mission,” but Bohemia admits that “There’s gonna be a lot more work involved in polishing it up” as it is a brand new kind of gameplay.
Showcase: “Vehicles” is a night-vision “steal the car mission”. Showcase: “Helicopters” features air-to-ground combat responding to an “enemy attack at one of your facilities.” The Alpha 3 trailer goes on describing what we can expect. This is a lot of content to sink our teeth into for an Alpha, and this is supposed to be only around 15% of Arma 3’s terrain.
The Alpha launch will have simple updates and fixes. The Beta program will be made public this summer. The actual game is supposed to come out in the 3rd quarter of this year. The finished product, Arma 3: This is War, will offer more than 290 square kilometers of sandbox play with 40+ weapons and 20+ vehicles along with single and multiplayer gameplay.
In 2001, the original game, Arma: Cold War Assault (formerly Operation Flashpoint) became the No. 1 PC game around the world and was followed by Arma: Armed Assault and Arma 2 along with multiple expansions and DLCs
