SOE's Bullet Run Blows Up Reality TV

Reality shows would be more fun if they included live weapons and ammunition.

That’s what Sony Online Entertainment is thinking with Bullet Run, an upcoming lobby-based FPS, set in the near future when people kill each other on TV for fame and fortune, forming and breaking alliances at will… kinda like The Hunger Games, but without the teenage girls.

Not that you couldn’t make a teenage girl. SOE promises “thousands of options to customize your character” for the free-to-play shooter, in which style will count just as much as marksmanship — gotta keep those ratings high, after all.

Other features promised in the game include:

  • Active reload: When you hit reload a circular interface appears. If you hit it just right your weapon loads much faster.
  • Up to 20 contestants per match
  • Eight unique kill skills
  • Nemesis system and taunts, to really rub in your victories
  • Six arenas
  • Free to play with optional membership

Hey, maybe this reality TV/shooting match isn’t such a bad idea — Snooki, watch out.

Bullet Run is currently in closed beta and is scheduled to go live summer of 2012.

Look at that chest. The V neck is back. It sounds like Bulletstorm meets TNT (the tv channel). I like it

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was “Gamer” with Gerald Butler.

Reminds me of APB in character design

Bullet Run (formerly Hedone) seems to be the spiritual successor of Parabellum, which was a game also by Acony which didn’t make it out of closed beta and was shut down in 2009. Besides Parabellum, it does make me think a bit of Brink and APB

      • http://www.MasterRenny.com/ Thomas Renshaw

Either way APB was out before them therefore it came first therefore it reminds me of APB in character looks/design/customization :)

Parabellum beta shut down in 2009. It was close to a year before the original All Points Bulletin went through its very short-lived beta in the summer of 2010 and shut down. So “either way [Parabellum] was out before them”

APB had been in development since 2005 and seeing as parabellum never made it out of beta, it wasnt released, therefore it never came out, therefore ive never seen it or even heard of it. If ive never heard of something how can it remind me of something? AND looking at images on google seeing as there isnt much to go by, Parabellum characters had army suits only Bullet run and APB have a more customized style -.-

Hey, that’s a great way to boost your show’s ratings.
